Ban brake fluid because if it leaks onto the exhaust it will cause a fire.

EV costs mounting up...
EV's to pay road tax (VED) from 2025

I think the road ahead is becoming clearer. I think the Tory party has resigned itself to losing the 2024 General Election, following a series of disasters - most, but not all, of which were their own fault. I think they'll actually be quite pleased to retire from the front line, catch their breath, and regroup.

Then, it'll be Labour's turn. And they'll find that the Tories have left behind a slew of fiscal landmines in the road ahead, just as George Osborne did in 2015.

What happens at the following General Election, in 2029, depends on how Labour play it for the next five years.

If Labour crack on with getting things working again (which will be eye-wateringly expensive), the Tories will campaign against "the party of high taxes" - without mentioning any positive achievement from those taxes.

If Labour grit their teeth, and press on with the austerity package, the Tories will campaign against "the party who presided over a country in decay and decline, and did nothing about it" - without saying a word about who caused it in the first place.

It's going to be bloody.

Tesla delivered on electric semi trucks yesterday

Tesla delivered its first Tesla Semi electric trucks to customers and revealed details of its production version of the vehicle – delivering on a five-year-old promise.
Today, the company held its Tesla Semi Delivery Event in Nevada.
As expected, Tesla delivered the first electric trucks to PepsiCo, a long-time reservation holder, and held a presentation to reveal more details about the production version of the Tesla Semi.
There wasn’t any big surprise during the presentation.
Tesla basically delivered on its original promises made in 2017 when it first unveiled the prototypes of the Tesla Semi.
Despite the lack of major changes, it’s still a big moment since the electric truck has the potential to change the trucking industry for good by eliminating emissions and significantly reducing costs...
...
Dan Priestley, Tesla Semi Program manager, explained that Tesla is using one of the motors for cruising speed geared toward peak efficiency at highway speeds and the two other motors are used for torque when accelerating in order to create a smooth driving experience never seen in a class 8 truck before.

To prove the capacity, Tesla shared a very impressive video of a Tesla Semi loaded at 82,000 lb. passing a diesel truck at 6% incline on the Donner Pass as if it’s nothing...
Okay, it’s powerful, but can it travel long distances? Well, yes it can. Tesla promised a range of 500 miles with a full load five years ago, and it delivered on the promise.
Tesla shared data on a 500-mile trip with a full load of just under 82,000 lb. total with the tractor. It started out in the Bay Area with a 97% state of charge and ended up in San Diego with still 4% charge...
Tesla reiterated that it can achieve a less-than-2 kWh-per-mile efficiency, which means that trucking companies can achieve up to $70,000 in fuel savings per year depending on their cost of electricity.

Of course, we won't see anything more about them no matter how successful until there's a fire. :^p

But don't normal big rigs also spontaneously combust at times as well?

I've seen more than enough them do it over my lifetime. ;-)

Brake fires are oh so common.

I remember back in the early 80's seeing a semitrailer with smoking brake about 5 car lengths ahead of me as I drove down through the Chattanooga mountains towards Georgia. The semi ended up using the emergency sand pit/ditch off to the right side of the road.

And "normal" cars as well, but we only seem to see the fires in the electrical ones mentioned around here. :^)

Reforms were announced in November's Autumn Statement, with the hope of removing barriers in the planning system and making grid connections quicker.
Bureaucracy slows take up
Are we beginning to see a very BIG elephant in the room?

Just over 25 years ago, travelling to work (Peterborough to London) the power unit had power issues which gave up the ghost shortly after leaving the station.
Within an hour we were on our way, rescued by a diesel unit.
Several months later, it happened again, only with the overhead cables this time.
Within 45 minutes we were on our way.

Simple backup solutions.
Move on 25 years.
As seen very recently, it seems going all electric without backups in place can be & will be problematic.
An Elizabeth Line train suffered issues with overhead cables & was stuck between stations.
Passengers were stuck on that train for over 4 hours & no lighting.
No backup.

... No backup.

The big thing there is to include adequate backup.

However, the accountants win the argument that there are far greater profits to be gained by allowing the people to be inconvenienced and consequences be damned.

Only when we have automatic payouts for inconvenience and consequences, required and enforced by law, only then will we see very obvious backup options included...

... And then there is such as Michael O' Leary to overcome...

(And I've been 'told off' many times for keeping spares strategically immediately on-hand... "WHAT?!!! What are you sayin' that they are NOT IN USE!!!" + added expletives... Costly alternate consequences be damned?...)

Enjoy your journey!
