A U.S. bankruptcy judge on Tuesday allowed victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre to retain a forensic financial investigator to dig into the finances of bankrupt right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, who for years falsely claimed that the shooting was a hoax.

Jones and his company Free Speech Systems have been found liable for $1.5 billion in two defamation trials over lies that Jones spread about the deadly elementary school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut. The Sandy Hook families said that they need specialized assistance to review Jones' assets, income, and ability to pay those verdicts.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Christopher Lopez in Houston, Texas on Tuesday approved the families' request to retain Nardello & Co, which is providing its services on a pro bono basis......

It feels like theirs is not an audience who cares about facts, or even the illusion of facts. But watching Fox's machinations around this case, it seems that they believe keeping up the pretense that they are "news" matters to their viewers, even if no one actually believes it.

A Delaware judge discerned no reason why Rupert Murdoch could not take the stand at a trial next month in Dominion Voting System’s billion-dollar defamation lawsuit, remarking that the 92-year-old media mogul isn’t “infirm.”

Fox attorney Matthew Carter said that Murdoch’s vitality isn’t the issue.

“We’re not arguing that Mr. Murdoch is infirm or unable to travel,” Carter said, adding that the real issue is that the Fox Corporation chairman already sat for two days of deposition.

After several hours of grilling, it shouldn’t be necessary to subject the nonagenarian to more grilling, Carter argued.

Delaware Superior Court Judge Eric M. Davis, who sent the case to discovery in late 2021, did not immediately rule on whether Murdoch will take the stand. The judge indicated that the parties could avert the need for Murdoch’s appearance by agreeing to designate certain portions of the deposition for the jury....

WILMINGTON, Delaware, April 11 (Reuters) - A judge said Fox News had a "credibility problem" just days before a $1.6 billion defamation trial after the company disclosed for the first time in nearly two years of litigation that Rupert Murdoch was an officer of the company.

Superior Court Judge Eric Davis called the delayed disclosure "bizarre" and chided Fox attorneys for having previously made representations that Murdoch wasn't an officer of Fox News, only to reverse on the eve of a trial set to begin Monday over the broadcaster's coverage of false claims the 2020 Presidential election was rigged.

"I'm not very happy right now," Judge Davis said during a hearing in Wilmington, Delaware. "You (Fox News) have a credibility problem."
