Our anti-vaxxes here have proved just how stupid they really are. LOL

The bizarre post about street lights that is proof Aussie anti-vaxxers have lost the plot.

You have to wonder how these people survive day to day.

Now that covid is endemic most eveyone will get it. the only question is how sick you will become. The vaxed and boosted will have mild or nonexistent symptoms. 70% of the unvaxed will not require hosipitalization i/3 of those in the hospital will need to go the the icu and some of those will need to go on a ventilator. About half of those don't make it.

https://mynewsla.com/life/2022/11/10/covid-infections-hospitalizations-continue-upswing-in-la-county/
Los Angeles County is continuing to experience increases in COVID-19 infection and hospitalization rates, the public health director said Thursday, warning that two newly emerging variants of the virus are threatening to fuel a fall and winter surge in cases.

Barbara Ferrer said the county had an average of about 1,300 new COVID cases per day last week, up from about 1,000 per day the previous week. She said the daily average case numbers have been “slowly but steadily increasing” since the beginning of November.

Ah, more O/T for me!

Sadly it seems not as while some countries go down in infection rates others are exploding so it'll be with us for some time yet.

Unfortunately, with our social mix and politics, that overall mix looks to promote a continuing pandemic...

For various reasons, the population have not been receptive to safely socializing or wearing masks or getting vaccinated. That problem is also compounded by unhealthy conditions in our work places and transport and social spots...

We have the technology to improve all those conditions for very low cost compared to the consequent health costs, and for example for a minuscule fraction of the costs of Putin's war against the world.

Yet, the key phrases appear to be "Don't Look Up" and "Amen".

And yet! Lo! Behold!!

We may yet have a sniff of some hope, a ray of light, a beacon towards renewed good health!!!

Lo! Let it be successful!!...

... We have a number of nasal vaccines going through trials that are looking very promising to stop Coronavirus infections in the first place.

... Then it's merely a question of who is happy to gain protection and can afford to pay, vs Darwin Effect in action.

Stay healthily safe folks!
Martin

Steps we can take to combat COVID in 2023
wrote:
Despite everyone wanting 2023 to be the year we go "back to normal," the COVID-19 pandemic is still with us, and with open borders, increased travel and new variants appearing, decision-makers face further challenges in deciding what policies to implement...

... Predictably, however, while saving lives, the imposition of restrictions—especially lockdowns—was associated with greater economic costs to society.

Thirdly, an ongoing vaccination strategy on average reduced deaths by almost 30% compared to no further vaccination. Vaccination also carries the additional benefit of allowing less time with restrictions...

... mask-wearers using N95s only during infection surges. Interestingly, we did not see much of a health gain. This should not be interpreted as evidence that high-quality masks do not work—they do. It instead shows that if we increase mask-wearing after a surge in cases is already happening, [that is then all too late,] the cat is out of the bag...

... if we increase mask use all the time as opposed to only during serious surges, we do see lower infection, hospitalization and death rates...

We can do it?

We can beat this??

Is this the game changer to clean up the ongoing covid spreaders?

Here's hoping this will be seen to be 'acceptable' and even a good idea by all.

Including those 'unhappy' about needles?!

Long Covid: Three years and no magic bullet

I have had long Covid for three years. Even though I have made huge progress I still suffer most days with chronic pain in my joints, a rolling sense of vertigo, fatigue and brain fog.

To look at me you might think I'm fine but it is achingly painful that I can't physically manage the activities I used to enjoy...

And sadly, there are many more like here...

What is it that people do not understand about stopping the ongoing pandemic?...

Ongoing Consequences...

ONS - Excess deaths in England and Wales: March 2020 to December 2022
wrote:
... In England and Wales, the number of deaths remained above the five-year average in 18 out of 34 months from March 2020 to December 2022...

... May to December 2022

Deaths remained substantially above the five-year average between May to December 2022, after subtracting deaths due to COVID-19. The remainder of this section discusses this period.

Deaths (excluding deaths due to COVID-19) were above the five-year average for 16 of the 20 age groups. The age group with the highest proportional excess was people aged 75 to 79 years (21.3% increase, 8,935 excess deaths), followed by people aged 10 to 14 years (16.2% increase, 31 excess deaths)...

Why are excess deaths higher now than during Covid?
wrote:
5 November 2022

More people are dying every week than during Covid’s peak years...

... excess deaths are most stark at home: with deaths in private homes nearly a third above average. Meanwhile in hospitals and care homes they’re just 15 and 10 per cent above average. The shift to dying at home, and the health service ceasing to function, continues...

... Despite increased pressure from academics, clinicians and now charities the government still displays little interest in what could be considered one of our greatest ever health crises...

Britain’s excess death rate is at a disastrous high – and the causes go far beyond Covid
wrote:
15 Jan 2023

... Last year in the UK there were nearly 40,000 excess deaths – that is, deaths above a five-year average. That’s nearly as many as were killed by the Luftwaffe in the blitz. In the last two weeks of 2022, deaths were a fifth higher than the average from 2016 to 2019 (the last pre-pandemic year)...

... As the pandemic waned, we could have expected excess deaths to shift to below average levels over time. This has not happened...

... we had been through the worst of a pandemic in which many frail members of society died, and normally mortality falls year on year, so to only equal the death toll of 2019 was already indicative of a worrying trend.

Even this data uncovered something disturbing – higher death rates among relatively young adults...

How to undo the ongoing consequences?...

Stay healthy folks!...
