Fresh surges of Covid infections show the pandemic is nowhere near over, the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) chief has said, warning that the virus is running free.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said he was worried that case numbers were shooting up, putting more strain on health systems and workers.

The number of Covid cases reported to the WHO increased 30 per cent in the past two weeks, driven by sub-variants of the Omicron strain and the lifting of control measures.

“New waves of the virus demonstrate again that Covid-19 is nowhere near over. As the virus pushes at us, we must push back,” he insisted.

He told a news conference that as transmission increases, governments must also deploy tried-and-tested measures like mask-wearing and improving ventilation....

Why-o-why can't people wear masks?

I dunno either... the overdramatizing of wearing a $1 tiny piece of cloth made no sense to me. Fine and dandy if people don't want another injection, but claiming a mask was "traumatic," especially to children with zero evidence, was... well, typical sadly. Adult projection of what they imagined children to be feeling, without the inconvenience of actually having to ask them. Never saw a child have an issue with it; most of them thought it was fun as they had interesting masks (ie dinosaurs, dogs, superheroes.)

I never stopped with wearing one indoors as, well, COVID-19 never went away. It may be milder on average, but there are many more cases. It's more for the benefit of others, not as much myself, as there's plenty of evidence that they protect others more than the wearer. (See the old but accurate analogy of the peeing disease and wearing pants.)

Disclaimer: my workplace has not had regular testing since April of 2021 or so. I have not felt symptoms and so have not tested. I am broadcasting a 10g signal, though. I have been working on improving my health for 7 years. Less than a month ago I reached 10100 some odd feet in elevation and soon I plan to go another 500-2000 feet higher. I think we have a mix.

BTW, on that adventure I reached the halfway point to the mountain peak. At that point is a camp. The caretakers there had COVFEFE19. Therefore, I kept my distance from the main cabin.
