Are you looking at all the information in you comparison to previous variants?
How many hospitalisations are there? or, How many do not end up in hospital?
If they go to hospital;
how many go on to require assisted breathing?, or, how many are classified as recovered?
And if the stay in hospital how many end up in ICU?
How many die.

And these are probably best done as percentages of the 'new cases'.

Because if you do look further then it would appear from a very quick check of the Worldometer numbers that there are nearly twice as many recovering every day than new cases. And that is for today, yesterday and 2 days ago.

There is an obvious game being played of avoiding putting the NHS into complete meltdown, but to otherwise 'keep things moving regardless'...

Hence the fallback of the temporary "Nightingale" centres to be used as a 'Get out of disaster' joker card in case the 'big numbers' do not go favorably.

As reported, 100,000 people a day newly infected is a lot of people off work being ill, and also a high proportion of the population. Previously, we have been in total lockdown for far lower numbers.

The real numbers come out on Fridays from the ONS report for the week before.


Is our government's "exit strategy" to play a game of letting evolution take whatever 'natural' course, regardless of expert advice?

edit] And lets not forget that for countries with a population of over 10 million the UK is the most tested country in the world per capita. The next country in that list is France with only just over half as many tests per capita.

The world's total case tally has now passed 366 million as total deaths now exceed 5.6 million. :-(

But trying to keep up with all the place changes on the lists is damn near impossible these days with countries jumping around all over the place.

Though the U.S. still leads the way with 1 of their unfinished clubhouses being prepared for tomorrow's grand opening of their 75M+ club while another was used for their 900K+ clubhouse's grand opening that occurred today.

India entered the 40M+ case club while Brazil made it into the 24M+ club and may enter the 25M+ clubhouse tomorrow. France is flying through the clubs entering the 18M+ club today and the 20M+ club is well within their reach. The U.K. has made it into the 16M+ club while Russia is trying to stay ahead of Turkey in the 11M+ club as Italy cruises through the 10M+ clubhouse in pursuit of both Russia and Turkey and Spain is trying to stay ahead of Germany in the 9M+ club. That rounds out the case list top 10 and the top 10 highest daily performers (just not quite in that order).

And all the protesters around the world are doing nothing other than fueling the fire thus making everything even worse (and that includes the worldwide inflation rates).

Which suggests the tsunami of new infections from new variants has whooshed around the planet enough times that we are now mopping up the resultant floods of ongoing cases.

Hopefully, this is another sign that Coronavirus-SARS2 has rapidly evolved into something less severe and less of a killer to become instead merely endemic to the world.

That genie is enjoying world-wide freedom!


My personal (uneducated) opinion and hope is that we'll soon see covid drop out of the news from the combined positive effects of people being vaccinated and the anti-viral effects of warmer brighter weather in the northern hemisphere.

Here's hoping for no malingering.
