... So Many Educated and Working in dA 'WAR ZONE' of CV - and Yet NO JABBIN' fo them...

Nope. That's very much not the case.

All real doctors, medics, physicians, front-line carers clearing up the mess of COVID: They are all vaccinated. They've seen it all first hand...

There are, unfortunately, too many other carers and cleaners and other essential staff in health and care settings that work under atrocious bullying work conditions, and also suffer poor pay. For those people, there are too many stories where such workers have not been vaccinated because they cannot afford even an hour off work to get vaccinated...

And then also, there are those with their own reasons, often from fear or misinformation, or who suffer the bad side of peer pressure, or even suffer politics, as to why they are not (yet) vaccinated.

Meanwhile, here in the UK at least, all our medical professionals are already getting booster jabs. That's their third jab to keep our health service running.

At this very moment (28th September 2021), we have for the UK:

    90% of the adult population vaccinated with at least one jab;
82% of the adult population fully vaccinated.

Way to go to good health!

Kicking COVID into touch: Rugby stars support vaccine roll out
wrote:
Rugby players urge people to get their COVID-19 vaccine in new short film...

... Ahead of Round 3 of the Premiership Rugby this weekend, a new film has been released featuring key players Sam Underhill (Bath Rugby), Alex Goode (Saracens), Nathan Earle (Newcastle Falcons), Ollie Hassell-Collins (London Irish), Marland Yarde (Sale Sharks) and Dan Robson (Wasps) who discuss the importance of the COVID-19 vaccine and the impact the virus has had on them in the past year.

The players also share their thoughts on who to look out for this season. While their player predictions might be different, they all agree that the most important thing everyone can do this season is to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

The film will be played out at stadiums across the country from this weekend (1 -3 October) and comes as more than 82% of over-16s in the UK have now received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Earlier this month, the booster programme was also rolled out...

For a good healthy giggle, see:

Their film can be downloaded from here.

... There are, unfortunately, too many other carers and cleaners and other essential staff in health and care settings that work under atrocious bullying work conditions, and also suffer poor pay...

Unfortunately, all too true and too rarely reported. This is just one example, long after the event but still ongoing, reported just now:

NHS Highland pays out millions to bullied staff
wrote:
... Whistleblowers exposed a "culture of bullying" at NHS Highland in 2018.

A Scottish government-commissioned review suggested hundreds of health workers may have experienced inappropriate behaviour [that is, suffered being bullied, de-valued, and/or victimized]...

... "many described a culture of fear and of protecting the organisation when issues are raised"...

... heard ... bullying "persists" at the health board...

What isn't mentioned in that news is "why" or from "what cause"...

Are the 'wrong' people in charge? Or might the source cause be undue stress from an impossible overload with impossible demands and with too few resources to be able to run a good service in the first place?...

And now we have COVID added to that to paralyze normal operation...

As the U.S. celebrates the grand opening of its brand new 44M+ case clubhouse the world's total case tally has passed million and the total death count passes . :-(

Changes in the top 50 of the death list were Kazakhstan removing Switzerland from 50th spot as Vietnam kicked Bolivia out of 34th while Malaysia booted Belgium from 29th and the Philippines displaced Chile from 20th place.

Now onto the case list changes.

St. Vincent Grenadines displaced Monaco from 193rd place, Bermuda slipped past Chad into 184th while New Caledonia flew over Niger, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, Eritrea and Brunei before landing in 175th, Nicaragua leapt over Burkina Faso, Congo and Lesotho to come down in 159th as Mauritius nudged Andorra from 156th, Burundi replaced Tajikistan in 151st and Belize jumped over Somalia and Mayotte to claim 146th spot.

Laos took 142nd spot off of Haiti, Suriname and French Polynesia jumped over both French Guiana and Martinique into 128th & 129th respectively as Australia leapfrogged China and Rwanda to become the 109th country to enter the 100K+ clubhouse, Montenegro grabbed 101st from Zimbabwe while Latvia knocked Afghanistan out of 96th, Moldova slipped past Slovenia into 80th and South Korea jumped over Egypt and Oman to claim 76th place.

Venezuela replaced Honduras in 69th place, Myanmar jerked Paraguay out of 61st while Austria took 45th off of the U.A.E., Jordan chewed Hungary out of 41st as Thailand flew past Bangladesh into 28th, Germany retook 13spot back from Indonesia and France became the 7th member of the 7M+ club.

Meanwhile Florida's death count has leapt up over 54,000 now, but that's enough for this update. Stay COVID safe.

Think there was a correction to Florida death numbers it was 53,124 on Friday (25th) to make up for the doctored "low count/day" that DeSantis has engineered, to try and look good.

And 2 weeks ago it wasn't much above 48,000, but around 6 weeks of hiding the true daily numbers is now surfacing in the total numbers.

It has possibly got even worse for DeSantis, as on one of the days when a correction occurred, 26th Aug some local news sites report that the daily number of deaths was 901.

https://www.local10.com/news/florida/2021/08/26/florida-reports-901-more-covid-19-deaths-cdc-data-shows/

edit] the NYT covid tracker https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/us/florida-covid-cases.html reports 311 deaths for 29th Sept.
As compared to the worldometers number of deaths is 4.

I expect another jump in their death total in either this or the next reporting period. DeSantis is just trying to fool those that just watch the daily numbers instead of noticing the total now jumping twice a week with back dated data and he had the hide to criticise and B.S. about the way that we handle things over here.

Him, Florida (pop. 21,477,737), total cases so far at 3,611,683 with deaths well past 54,071.

Us, Australia (pop. 25,866,652), total cases 102,723 while deaths number 1,279 so far.

I think that I know where I'd rather be and it ain't there.

Even with our incompetent right wing leaders we're doing a hell of a lot better than he is and his recent fake news about us using our "military to enforce lockdowns" is total false in his wording. Yes unarmed defence force personnel were only used to assist state police for a few weeks in their duties in certain areas as well as still assisting federal force with quarantine duties (I'd say that he deliberately omitted the bits about "unarmed" and "assist" just to stir his brain dead believers into thinking that they were armed and total control in performing all those duties). He really is 1 delusional covidiot moron that just wants to lick Delusional Donny's .... LOL

The consolidated update in Florida happens once a week on Fridays.
I'll check the numbers early Friday and Saturday as that should be the time of any jump in the death numbers.

local gov having hearing to require business to check status before entry and idiot on public comment calls them fascist for attempting to protect the public health.

frankly I'm ready to have the local government take enforcement from public health and transfer it to vector control. vector control doesn't mess around. they take care of rats, mice, mozzies and whatever else.

WHAT!??!!!

x54 deaths yet for a smaller population?!!!

Dread to think how many more have been ill and are left with disabilities from ongoing 'long covid' (1/3rd of those falling victim to covid suffer at least one long term malady...).

How is that Florida mindless political deadly idiot still in power?...

How many more people are to needlessly die?

Florida tried to fool me and everybody else.

But the worldometers deaths total for Florida went from 54069 on very early Thursday am 'UK time' to 55,009 by adding another 3 deaths yesterday.

NYT case count for Florida deaths on 30th - 272.

Here in the UK, we have for the latest Office of National Statistics randomized survey:

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Infection Survey, UK: 1 October 2021
wrote:
Estimates for England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. This survey is being delivered in partnership with the University of Oxford, University of Manchester, Public Health England and Wellcome Trust...

Main points

In England, the percentage of people testing positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) continued to fluctuate; most recently it increased in the week ending 25 September 2021 to an estimated 658,800 people within the community population (95% credible interval: 617,900 to 700,600), equating to around 1 in 85 people.

In Wales, the percentage of people testing positive increased in the week ending 25 September 2021; we estimate that 53,300 people in Wales had COVID-19 (95% credible interval: 42,700 to 65,300), equating to around 1 in 55 people.

In Northern Ireland, the trend in the percentage of people testing positive was uncertain in the week ending 25 September 2021; we estimate that 28,000 people in Northern Ireland had COVID-19 (95% credible interval: 20,300 to 37,200), equating to around 1 in 65 people.

In Scotland, the percentage of people testing positive decreased in the week ending 25 September 2021; we estimate that 97,700 people in Scotland had COVID-19, (95% credible interval: 82,300 to 114,200) equating to around 1 in 55 people.

Nothing like as good as has been hoped for...

Unhealthy drivers for increasing the spread again are:

  • The schools are back in session...
  • The colder weather is driving people back indoors and to close all windows and doors...

We have a good vaccination rate but... There are enough hold-outs to keep COVID spreading...

And our hospitals are still full and choked.

One positive step is that the annual flu vaccinations have been brought forward to head off the inevitable proportion of flu sufferers further straining our hospitals...

What next?

Stay safe folks!

And then also walking through my local version of "Cheers!" to pick up a beer, to take it out to the comfort of The Outside to enjoy a good relaxed drink in the mild evening open air, I had the example of one of the old bar-prop regulars calling me a "Patient" for wearing a mask at the bar. (The regulars there are all always maskless.) That was easily shrugged off with a return quip. However, that example does highlight the message from our government for people to "go out to play" (and get the economy moving) and that "masks are not required". There may also be a false sense of 'invulnerability' and supposedly that 'the pandemic is all finished' for those who are double-jabbed fully vaccinated.
The anti-vaxxers really must be living in a very scary dream!
Don't forget the other side of the coin.
Had a weeks holiday last week & on return this week find that staff are no longer required to wear a mask.
However they have a choice to either wear one or not.
Still have to wear one on public transport & have got into the habit of wearing one so I still wear one.
Did notice a regular off this week & assumed she's on holiday. Find out today she's off with Covid (she's been double jabbed)
That's the 3rd in less than 6 weeks.
Meanwhile, some potential good news.
Antiviral pill could halve hospitalisations

Yes it's time for another update of the lists as the world's total case tally has exceeded 235 million and the total death count surpasses 4.8 million. :-(

I'll kick off with the top 50 spots of death list as usual which saw Nepal deposed from 49th position by Kazakhstan as Greece replaced Sweden in 43rd and now onto the case list with a huge twist.

I was thinking about strife torn Tanzania just the other day and why were they so far down the lists, well WHO threw an update in for them the day after it seems that has sort of thrown a huge spanner into the works here as not only did they jump from 188th on the death list up to 128th spot they must of been on that SpaceX fight with them tourists as they went from 203rd place on the case list right up to 140th position. They also became 129th member of the 700+ death club and the 150th member of the 20K+ case club. :-O

I noticed this immediately just last night while checking case list changes as little to no position changes were happening, but overtaking was, so I'll try and stubble my way through the resulting carnage that that move made on the lower field. I'll also apologise now if I miss something in the mess.

Antigua/Barbuda passed Monaco, but remains in 196th, Dominica flew over Monaco, Liechtenstein, Sao Tome/Principe and St. Vincent Grenadines to land in 192nd while Grenada slipped past Chad, but remains in 186th, New Caledonia passed the Isle of Man, but remains in 175th, Saint Lucia passed the C.A.R., but remains in 170th, Equatorial Guinea passed both South Sudan and Hong Kong to move up 1 spot into 165th as Mali snuck past Andorra, but dropped back to 159th, Mauritius passed Aruba, but dropped back to 157th, P.N.G. passed Somalia to became the 150th member of the 20K+ club before passing Mayotte, but they remain 149th, and that was because Lesotho took flight from 160th before having to make a refueling stop in 146th place.

Laos moved past Benin, but remains in 142nd place then Tanzania finishes off that bunch of chaos in 140th (but WHO knows when they'll get their next update in?), Gabon replaced Guinea in 138th as Angola displaced the D.R.C. from 120th, it looks like Singapore didn't like being passed by us here and has ripped up the track as they zipped past both China and Rwanda to move back into 110th while Australia knocked El Salvador out of 108th, Estonia took 97th from Afghanistan and Botswana moved past Kyrgyzstan into 92nd spot.

Mongolia became the 79th country to enter the 300K+ clubhouse before jumping over Oman and Egypt to claim 77th spot, Ireland grabbed 67th from Uruguay while Slovakia swept Kuwait from 63rd, Bulgaria passed Bolivia to become the 57th member of the 500K+ club (Bolivia became the 58th member) as Vietnam kicked Nepal out of 43rd, Serbia booted Morocco from 36th, Iraq replace the Netherlands in 22nd place and Spain took 10th spot from Colombia to finish off this update.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/10/02/works-like-flower-bud-new-covid-test-could-end-need-self-isolate/
A new Covid-19 test will tell sufferers how infectious they are in an effort to reduce how many Britons have to unnecessarily self-isolate if they test positive for the virus.
British start-up Vatic has created new tests which are able to spot the parts of the virus which can contaminate others, and give people a simple “yes” or “no” answer as to whether people are infectious.
The scientists behind the tests are hopeful they could be used to release Covid-19 sufferers who won’t be able to pass the virus on from self-isolation.
Alex Sheppard, co-founder of Vatic, said: “It’s all about staying open, and we think we’re at the vanguard of new technologies coming to the fore which can help us to stay open.
“Previously, it was all about not missing a single case so any false positives were not a problem, but now it’s the opposite. We’re at a point where we have to restore the liberties and freedoms that were lost for almost two years now. This is a more suitable technology for that.”
The way the test works is by identifying whether or not the virus is active, in a similar way to how a flower bud can appear opened or closed.

No false positives in trials

If the spike in the virus is active, the bud would be open as it would use this to enter human cells. If it is closed, then this would mean the virus is inactive, and the person would not be infectious.
