To my eye, that data suggests there is an ongoing steady increase from BEFORE 1970 which isn't covered by that data...

The only good thing is that Sunak will soon be facing an election, which he will hopefully be removed from office and loose his seat. He is rapidly becoming (if he hasn't already become) a monstrous liability to the Conservative party.
A summary of his destructive to the environment reads like a Steven King horror story.

The problem is, are any of the alternatives any better.

In the forth-coming by-election we have one candidate standing for a party whose name suggests hey know they are mad or at least loonies. Unlike all the other parties who say the are sane, but one has good reason to doubt that.....

I reckon that it's the fossil fuel industry behind this sort of misinformation that the mushrooms feed on.

Scientists studying Antarctic Circumpolar Current to take closer look at 'heat flux gates' letting in warmer water.

It is the planet's strongest flow of water and behaves like a climatic force field in the Southern Ocean.

"The Antarctic Circumpolar Current flows around the icy continent from west to east and acts as our safety belt so that the warm water doesn't reach the Antarctic and melt the ice," the CSIRO's Benoit Legresy explained.

But scientists are concerned that eddies spinning off from the current are acting as a "gateway" for warmer waters to enter the frigid zones.

"If you get this warm water towards Antarctica, it starts to melt glaciers and then we have [a] runaway [situation] of ice melting into the ocean and rising sea levels," he said.

To better understand the process, Dr Legresy and a team of Australian and international scientists are about to embark on a month-long voyage on board the CSIRO's research vessel, RV Investigator.

"There are five 'eddy heat flux gates', or hot spots, identified around the Antarctic Circle and they're acting as a gateway for the heat to go south," he said.

"We're going to track down those small features that we think explain the heat seeping into polar waters.".....

Andrew Forrest calls for fossil fuel bosses' 'heads on spikes' in extraordinary outburst on sidelines of UN COP28 climate conference.

Australian mining magnate and climate campaigner Andrew Forrest has lashed out in an extraordinary outburst aimed at oil and gas supremos, saying their heads should be "put on spikes".

Attending this year's United Nations COP28 climate talks in the United Arab Emirates, Mr Forrest is stepping up his fight against what he says are the "lethal" threats posed by the continued use of fossil fuels.

His broadside came as Federal Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen flew into Dubai to spearhead Australia's negotiations at the conference.

Speaking on AM on Wednesday, Mr Bowen declined to be drawn on whether Australia would back a push led by the European Union to phase out fossil fuel use.

Tensions are increasing in Dubai over the nature of the final wording of the COP summit, with some pushing for a complete end to the use of coal, oil and gas, as others resist the demand.

There have been a flurry of announcements and commitments aimed at lowering greenhouse gas emissions during the first week of COP28.

Chief among these was a pledge by more than 100 countries — championed by conference host the United Arab Emirates — to triple the amount of renewable energy across the globe by 2030.

Mr Forrest said none of the announcements made so far would be enough to ensure the success of this year's conference without a definite commitment to ending the use of fossil fuels.

He said there was already strong evidence the world was on track to breach the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.

And he took particular aim at the oil and gas bosses who were dismissing the calls, describing them as "selfish beyond belief".....

The heads of the fossil fuel industry bosses to be put on a spike?

Then what about the green, environmentally conscious politicians who travel around the world in gas-guzzling government jets, visit developing countries, where they advocate their energy transition to renewables, the move away from oil and gas, which they are eager to support with a lot of money in these countries too. Immediately afterwards, they sign supply contracts for oil, gas and coal, the actual reason for their trip. They seek as much fossils as possible, at almost any price. (Germany imports coal from Australia, South Africa, Colombia, LNG as far as from Australia, shipped halfway around the globe). We have condemned and banned nuclear energy as a biblical mortal sin. Without these fossil energies as a backup, our renewable energy policies in Central Europe (50...60 deg north latitude) simply don't work. So what about the fossil fuel buyers? Are they morally superior than the providers?

So, the heads of the fossil fuel bosses should roll. Well, then please chain all our green politicians next to them to a pillory and provide rotten tomatoes for the people to throw. Only when the demand for fossil fuels declines will the fossil bosses' profits fall and this industry will come to an end. This requires a sensible, realistic energy policy. I think it's wrong to blame the fossil industry for CO2 emissions. Of course you can rightly accuse them of wanting to save their dirty business. But those responsible in Qatar, for example, understand a hundred times more about responsible, practically implementable energy policy, the integration of renewables that focuses on security of supply and reasonable prices than the green ideologues who are currently determining our failing energy policy.
