In discourse you must accept that you may lose...

That only works when both sides of the discourse are accepting of change.

You refuse to accept that you may lose. That is exactly "unchanging unflinching dictators, despots, and aloof politicians?"
You have become them.

At one point in my life Greenpeace looked like it was legitimate, it now looks exactly like the NRA or said another way a terrorist group. It doesn't matter if they are correct or not, their actions are criminal and they should be rounded up, put in cages and have the door welded shut.

Debate and discourse must be civil to have any effect. Their methods do more harm to their cause than doing nothing.

Cuadrilla: Fracking firm given new deadline to plug wells
wrote:
Energy firm Cuadrilla has been told it must plug its two shale gas wells on land on the Fylde Coast in Lancashire by the end of next year...

... Fracking was banned at the site following concerning tremors in 2019. Cuadrilla had been originally told to cap the wells with concrete by June 2023.

Miranda Cox, from Frack Free Lancashire, described the news as "long overdue". "Obviously, we will fully believe it when the last piece of equipment and every last grain of silica sand has been removed, but we think this really means there are no more excuses," she said.

"Cuadrilla has been the bane of our lives for over a decade. The stress and ramifications of their failed fracking attempts will never be forgotten nor forgiven."...

Hopefully we can move on more quickly into cleaner more profitable non-polluting ways.

Profitably wasteful and people and our planet be damned?...

Ministers criticised for scrapping new food waste laws for England
wrote:
Mandatory reporting for large and medium-sized businesses would lower prices and help climate, say campaigners

The government has been criticised for binning food waste legislation that campaigners say could have reduced food prices and helped tackle the climate crisis.

The policy would have made food waste reporting mandatory for large and medium-sized businesses in England. According to research by the environmental campaign group Feedback, if it led to just a 1% reduction in food waste, food businesses would save an estimated total of at least £24.4m a year.

Martin Bowman, senior policy and campaigns manager at Feedback, said this was “an immediately achievable goal” that would “more than offset the costs of measurement and reporting, saving millions of pounds, and helping struggling families by lowering food inflation”.

“After a decade of failed voluntary reporting, it is a dereliction of duty for the government to abandon this policy,”...

... “Food waste contributes 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, surpassing the aviation industry’s impact..."

... Last summer, the government launched a consultation regarding the proposed law, in which 99% of respondents expressed support for the law, including 79% of retailers and 73% of hospitality services...

So... Who lobbied against that one?...

Just another problem caused by climate change.

Panama Canal Drying Up And Hundreds Of Ships Are Stuck.

In what is being called the “world’s worst traffic jam,” some 200 cargo ships are waiting to pass at the Panama Canal as, thanks to global climate change, the area experiences its worst drought in 100 years. As Futurism reports, the huge backlog has been growing for some time and might not get any better for a few weeks yet. The human-made passageway is famous not only as one of the world’s most impressive feats of engineering but as one of the most important trade routes on Earth.

The Panama Canal relies on massive amounts of water, the supply of which is shrinking in the current drought. As climate change continues across the globe, extreme weather events and conditions such as droughts, floods, and hurricanes are also increasing in both frequency and intensity. In fact, this is not the first time in recent history the canal has been struck by water shortages.

Drought at the Panama Canal has not been a common sight over much of the past century, but climate change is altering that reality and trading it for one that is much less desirable-and much more expensive. As recently as 2019, similar conditions to the current dry spell have hit Panama, which is normally one of the world’s wettest areas. Before that, the area was also similarly parched in 2016, with each event getting worse than the one before......

I think that today's environmental problems are too quickly attributed to climate change alone without looking closely at other causes too. There is climate change, sure. Its contribution should be examined scientifically and discussed publicly which is complex and difficult...

The Panama Canal has been expanded since 2007 with three additional larger lock chambers which were opened in 2016. These locks have been designed as water-saving locks but still require vast amounts of water. I haven't been able to find any figures on how the additional locks affected the water demand from the Gatun Reservoir. Likewise, the number of locked ships has always increased:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama_Canal
Annual traffic has risen from about 1,000 ships in 1914, when the canal opened, to 14,702 vessels in 2008, for a total of 333.7 million Panama Canal/Universal Measurement System (PC/UMS) tons.

To undo some of the Denial:

UK academics urge Royal Society to condemn fossil fuel industry
wrote:
Exclusive: Letter signed by more than 1,200 leading figures calls for ‘unambiguous statement’ about climate crisis

The Royal Society is under pressure from more than 1,200 leading academics to issue a clear condemnation of the fossil fuel industry.

The academics have written to the association of the world’s most eminent scientists calling for an “unambiguous statement about the culpability of the fossil fuel industry in driving the climate crisis”.

The society has agreed to meet representatives of the academics to discuss their demands. Most of those who signed the letter to the society’s president and council are based in the UK.

The letter says: “The Royal Society has thus far failed to condemn fossil fuel companies that are building new infrastructure that will carry the world far beyond 1.5 degrees of warming and that are lobbying across the world to dictate the pace and terms of an energy transition that will protect their profits at the planet’s expense.”

The companies were “committing an unprecedented act of violence against humanity”, the letter said, referring to a statement from the UN secretary general, António Guterres.

“It is imperative that our premier scientific institutions recognise this fact and condemn the agents in question, and the governments that permit their activities, in the strongest possible terms.”...

... “We need to see the gas industry in the same light that we now see the tobacco industry: sowing all kinds of misinformation and disinformation in order to keep on generating profits.”...

... “They exploited precisely the same scandalous tactics as big tobacco decades before. Like tobacco interests, fossil fuel interests and their financial accomplices must not escape responsibility.”

The Royal Society, founded in 1660, says it is “dedicated to promoting excellence in science for the benefit of humanity”. It is the oldest scientific academy in continuous existence.

Very stern stuff.

Incontrovertibly so...

Our gas sector is really rolling out the B.S. as their time gets shorter, but they make no mention of the now rapid uptake of green energy that is actually killing their future.

Gas lobby pushing back as momentum builds to get new homes off the fossil fuel.

The sooner these greedflation mongrels are out of business the cleaner and richer we'll all be.

In Arizona, it got so hot that the state’s specialist burns center was at full capacity from people who had burned themselves just by falling on to the scorching ground. Even the state’s saguaro cacti, a symbol of the US west, started to collapse in the extreme heat...

... The jarring, sometimes surreal, nature of the summer has vexed Joe Biden, who has been keen to tout an upbeat election message of surging clean energy investment, new jobs for former fossil fuel workers and an electric vehicle in every driveway.

“I’ve been to too many disaster areas,” the US president muttered shortly before departing for Hawaii ... “I don’t think anybody can deny the impact of climate change any more,” Biden has said of the summer...

How say the Deniers from their alternate imagined 'reality'?...

UK could quit ‘climate-wrecking’ treaty, minister announces
wrote:

The UK’s official advisers, the Climate Change Committee, said in July that the UK should quit the ECT because “continued membership represents risks to both a timely climate transition and to the taxpayer”. ECT critics have estimated the compensation to fossil fuel companies could rise to more than $1tn...

Big polluters are greenwashing us and they don't want to change.

Fossil fuel lobby opposes changes to greenwashing regulations.

Australian lobby groups oppose greenwashing overhaul as study finds conservation claims lack evidence.

The world's largest transnational companies are failing to provide evidence to back up their environmental restoration claims.

That's according to a new analysis of the mandatory and voluntary restoration programs that the corporations say they are engaging in.

The findings come as submissions to Australia's senate inquiry into greenwashing, including from a fossil fuel peak body, show many industry groups are pushing back against moves to change advertising regulations here.

The research published in Science found two-thirds of the world's 100 largest companies claim to carry out some form of environmental restoration, such as forest replanting, freshwater flow returns and marine habitat rehabilitation.

Yet more than 90 per cent of written reports on those projects "fail to report a single ecological outcome".

Study lead author Tim Lamont from Lancaster University said this lack of data makes it impossible to verify whether these companies are doing what they claim.......

....Ms Hemming said she wasn't surprised APPEA would oppose beefing up regulations, given it had been the subject of complaints about misleading advertising in the past.

In 2012, CSIRO claimed APPEA misrepresented its findings in an advertisement about coal seam gas.

A statement on CSIRO's website included:

CSIRO rejects the claim made in a television commercial aired on Sunday 2 September that ‘CSIRO [and government studies] have shown that groundwater is safe with coal seam gas’.

At no time has CSIRO made such a statement, and nor do the results of CSIRO research support such a statement.

CSIRO also said it became aware of that advertisement two days before it was aired and requested it be pulled.

APPEA CEO at the time Rick Wilkinson said APPEA had "taken CSIRO's comments on board" and a spokesperson told the Sydney Morning Herald the ad was approved by the independent advertising regulator.......
There's no end to them trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

... The cause of the leak is unclear but methane leaks in gas pipelines are not uncommon with ageing infrastructure...

... The main sources of methane are the oil and gas industry, farming and landfill sites...

... And most people have no idead that "Natural Gas" is actually methane from the oil and gas industry.

And that industry is lobbying hard to push super expensive super leaky hydrogen through those leaky pipes!

You can hear their squeals from way over here.

California sues five of the world's largest oil companies — ExxonMobil, Shell, BP, ConocoPhillips and Chevron.

I suspect this will be tossed PDQ. There is no law preventing the oil companies from not informing the truth about carbon, they were free to lie. If lying was permissible then they didn't do anything wrong.
