Interesting to look at the minute-by-minute sources of UK electricity https://www.gridwatch.templar.co.uk/Yes, indeed! We have this web app project in Germany (from public financed Fraunhofer institute) which visualizes electricity sources and import/export for most European countries (except the UK: only some data on import/exports). Data is taken from public sources, from energy exchanges... Diagrams are highly configurable ... Data ist archived, going back up to 10 years. https://www.energy-charts.info/charts/power/chart.htm?l=en&c=DE Countries to be visualized can be selected at the top right corner (flag). Supported languages are: de, en, fr, it. Then there is this great Danish project visualizing electricity generations' CO2 intensity, sources and import/exports on a world map for Europe and other regions: https://app.electricitymaps.com/map |

Dirty profits?... BP scales back climate targets as profits hit record wrote: Energy giant BP has reported record annual profits as it scaled back plans to reduce the amount of oil and gas it produces by 2030. Yet more procrastinating of polluting dirty rabid greedy profits: Scotland must rethink bottle recycling scheme - UK minister wrote: ... The UK minister said the Deposit Return Scheme should be "paused" after business leaders raised concerns over the costs involved in setting it up. NO! This cans and bottles of greedy pollution has far too long been kicked down the road into yet ever more littering and pollution. If anything, the UK should kick the polluters into shape sooner for the good of us all, rather than ever and forever later. All on our only one planet... They tried to use the same silly argument here down under before our cash for cans and bottles got back underway, they lost. |

Yet more mining?... Oh what a dirty business: Fears Whitehaven Harbour orange water linked to {new and old} coal mine work wrote: Campaigners say a mining licence for a company due to open the UK's first coal mine for decades should not be renewed after water at a harbour turned orange... That ain't good for business or for the environment or for anything trying to live in the newly murky water... ... Unless that is you're an iron ore loving bacterium! Will that mess get usefully cleaned up? Who pays?? All on our only one planet... I bet that drilling boreholes using a hot-water drill through hundreds of metres of glacier to get data doesn't help either. :-( Fissures speeding up Thwaites glacier melt revealed by deep ice-core camera. |

Doubly dirty sponsorship?... Science Museum sponsorship deal with oil firm included gag clause wrote: The Science Museum in London signed a sponsorship contract containing a gagging clause with the Norwegian oil and gas company Equinor, agreeing to take care not to say anything that could damage the firm’s reputation... That is very sadly disappointing for such a long prestigious and high profile institution. The Trustees need bringing to task on that aspect... The denial continues unabated: Antarctica sea-ice hits new record low wrote: There is now less sea-ice surrounding the Antarctic continent than at any time since we began using satellites to measure it in the late 1970s. So... We drown, boil, AND starve... Whatever next? Note: Despite the glibness, this is all very real and has already been happening for too long from our industrial scale pollution... Here's hoping that world opinion counts? TikTokers target controversial Willow oil project wrote: US government officials are expected to make a decision on one of the biggest US oil projects in decades this week. Rather than throwing $Billions into the dirty old Fossil Fuels industry, we can go far more cleanly and efficiently forwards to power new developments that do not destroy our planet... Can we overcome the short term political destructive greed?... Meanwhile, destroying our planet, we have: Aramco: Saudi state-owned oil giant sees record profit of $161bn wrote: Saudi oil giant Aramco has announced a record profit of $161.1bn (£134bn) for 2022, helped by soaring energy prices and bigger volumes... IIRC the only actual data comes from a single study that was done on the couple of days post 9/11 when the national airspace system was closed. An actual experiment. The study showed that the diurnal variation in temperature was decreased by water vapor trails. Cooler highs and warmer lows. Not a surprise result. It did not find warming or cooling bias. The study was of limited extent as well covering only North America and for a very short time period. Anyone citing this study in some long term proof is utterly disingenuous. |

There are theories that say pollution could have cooled the globe or at least slowed the warming. It goes like this: You cannot have water vapour without aerosols, such as smoke from fires or exhaust gasses, Therefore you cannot have thick cloud cover that reflects sunlight back into space and reducing warming. AFAIK clouds are not included in climate models. edit] The last time the UK stopped completely due to snow was the 1962/3 storm. The UK clean air act came into force in 1956 and slowly cleaned the air and was enhanced in 1968. |

Meanwhile here down under you can hear the screams of deniers all over the country. Australia passes tougher emissions reduction law that hits gas investments. Hopefully that'll kill the fracking industry here. |
