What continued madness is this?...

Indeed, what madness is this?...

How do we cure the madness so that we can enjoy our planet, "exceptional" and "rare" in its beauty?

Well...

These people look to be very much more genuine and personally motivated and caring. Vastly more so than that for what we see from the fossil fuels polluters wreaking their greedy profitable wrecking of vastly greater disruption:

Times Radio - Just Stop Oil threaten more disruption

You don't get interviews like that from the coal and oil industries.

Where do we go from here?

If you have an hour to spare, here is a lecture on all the raw materials needed to go green

CRITICAL RAW MATERIALS for the ENERGY TRANSITION*; LECTURE by Dr. Kathryn Goodenough (BGS*)

With a nice quote "If it can't be grown, it must be mined"

Oil pollution: Investigation reveals Egypt’s 'super coral' at risk
wrote:
As Egypt hosts world leaders at COP27 to discuss action over climate change, an oil terminal is dumping toxic wastewater on the country's Red Sea coast...

... "produced water" from Egypt's Ras Shukeir oil terminal is being dumped into the Red Sea every day. The barely treated wastewater - which is brought to the surface during oil and gas drilling - contains high levels of toxins, oil and grease...

... "very alarming", showing pollution from lead, cadmium, copper, nickel and other heavy metals...

... satellite images shows a wide plume of green effluent flowing into the sea, travelling up to 20 km (12 miles) south into areas harbouring marine life...

... while there are signs of a thriving ecosystem on either side of the impacted area, "suddenly you can see it's hard to see through the water" because of "something on the surface which looks like pollution". ... compounds contained in "produced water" can react with sea water, absorb oxygen, and suffocate even the most resilient marine life...

Wasted methane gas 'a scandal'
wrote:
The UK government is allowing the fossil fuel industry to waste large amounts of gas ... oil and gas companies are wasting enough methane to power more than 700,000 UK homes.

It says high energy prices mean more of the gas should be captured and used.

A spokesperson for UK oil and gas companies rejected that, saying it was not profitable to capture all of it...

... cutting down on it in the oil and gas production that accounts for 11% of emissions is considered low-hanging fruit.

The vast bulk of the UK oil and gas industry is located offshore in the North Sea. Methane is brought to the surface as a routine part of production. Part of it is flared (burnt); vented (released) or leaks out of pipes...

... "flaring and venting and associated emissions should be at the lowest possible levels in the circumstances." But critics say there's not enough monitoring or enforcement.

In October 2021 the International Energy Agency (IEA) calculated that 45% of global methane emissions could be stopped at no net cost to the oil and gas companies. Now [with increased gas prices], stopping emissions should even be profitable...

The continuing problem here is that the oil industry has no costs to what volume of the Earth's resources that they squander and waste. Worse still, there are no costs to their business for causing reckless pollution...

Canada: Ambassador tells EU that deforestation rules 'burdensome'
wrote:
Canada's ambassador to the European Union has voiced concern with proposed EU rules to curb deforestation.

A November letter from Ailish Campbell said the rules add "burdensome" requirements and will hurt trade between Canada and the EU. The EU regulation aims to limit the trade of products linked to deforestation worldwide.

Climate campaigners have called Canada's resistance to the rules "shocking"...

That really does suggest that the EU rules are good and really are needed. And without being watered down for the sake of the likes of Sarah Palin...

As our own slow moving flood seas continue on their agonising slow way down to S.A. others are suffering much worse.

Landslide in Colombia kills three people, traps 20, as La Niña wreaks more havoc.

Meanwhile up in tropical Darwin.

Darwin heat stings as parts of city still without shade trees years after Cyclone Marcus ripped through.

I reckon that Mother Nature is getting angry at us.

More snow and RAIN is falling in the Arctic

... "Over most parts of the Arctic, there are positive trends in the years' heaviest one-day and five-day precipitation amounts. This is especially true in the sub-Arctic North Atlantic, while the number of consecutive wet days is increasing over much of the central Arctic."...

... Alaska's second largest city, Fairbanks, recently experienced a 35mm downfall. The problem is the ice layer that's left behind. It makes roads more hazardous and creates difficulties for foraging wildlife until the spring thaw comes. Other complications include the rapid melt of heavier amounts of snowfall, which leads to flooding...

... Warmer temperatures mean more moisture is evaporating from the ocean, which will eventually precipitate out and show up as snow or rain. But the higher temperatures are also melting the sea-ice cover, exposing more ocean to evaporation, leading to further precipitation...

WE'RE ALL DOOMED TO DIE IN LESS THAN 80 YEARS!
Supercomputer predicts mass extinction by 2100 with a quarter of Earth’s species lost
The terrifying conclusion comes after scientists consulted one of Europe’s most advanced supercomputers.

The report claims 10 per cent of all plants and animals on Earth will disappear by 2050, with that number rising to 27 per cent by 2100.
