I live near Orlando, Florida and according to an online site called "Furthest City" the city that is furthest is Perth Australia at 18,328km or 11,450 miles. Anybody else that wants to post this statistic for their home town please do so. It will be interesting to see the results.

The closest location to me is the Gold Coast-Tweed area which makes San Cristóbal De La Laguna in Spain the furthest at 19,032km (or 11826 miles for those who use that archaic well out of date measure) and for those who want the link without having to search for it here it is, https://furthestcity.com/.

Cheers.

miles for those who use that archaic well out of date measure

How can you say that when it is a metric measurement, 1,000 Roman paces. A Roman pace was from left foot to left foot, or right to right, and therefore about 1,000 * 5 ft.

They must of been very short back in them days as 1 of my strides (left foot to right) is 1 metre. Thankfully the French sorted things out in the 1790s ;-)

I think he was talking about miles being the antiquated measurement unit. The meter was established during the rule of Napoleon in the early 19th century.

British Army stride, left to right, is 30", I find it hard to believe that your stride is almost 10" longer.

Two reasons to reject the metre there, Napoleon and it was established in France. Not withstanding the fact they got there sums wrong, or rather they found that the method used produced different results at different locations. And so in all honesty the metre hasn't got solid foundations.

Why don't we all follow the mariners' measure? Knots. The nautical mile is based on the Earth’s longitude and latitude coordinates, with one nautical mile equaling one minute of latitude.

It all depends on 1's size I guess, but then again I'm taller than most at 1.9m (my cubit would be longer than most too). ;-)

My sources say that at that height, they would estimate your natural stride length at 33" or 0.85m.

I wonder how the farthest city from Pasadena, California (in the northern hemisphere) can be in France (also in the northern hemisphere). I figured that the farthest location from any point in the northern hemishere had to be in the southern hemisphere. I guess the furthest point is in the ocean, hence no city.

Réunion is administratively part of France, but geographically it's in the southern Indian ocean. That's causing problems when counting covid-19 cases by administrative area, too.

Yet it is treated as a country by Worldometer, https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/reunion/, and its numbers are listed under the African region and it does regularly report once a week.

Cheers.

But if you click on source on the Worldometer France page it takes you here https://dashboard.covid19.data.gouv.fr/vue-d-ensemble?location=FRA

And that shows quite clearly they include Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guyane, La Réunion and Mayotte in their numbers.
