10 pm and still too hot to sleep. 90f outside and my AC is having a hard time keeping it cool. Think I am spending the weekend along the coast. |

The mercury here made to 11C (felt like 7C) today, but it's now on the downhill run, as the rain continues to fall. Cheers. |

Heading south to visit some of my friends in the Beach communities. SLO/Morro Bay, SB/Solvang, and Ventura I am heading your way. I hear it will be cooler down that direction. |

Thanks Julie, I tend to not try to win, eventually dumb luck just hands it to me and I have no idea how many times I've won. 113F(45C) Predicted here today, 112F(44C) reached on Wednesday, 117(47) for Monday with 116(46) for Sat and Sunday, it's almost as hot as Palm Springs here. Stay cool, yesterday the park had a 1 min power outage, but then the parks electrical infrastructure is an antique and needs to be replaced. It's currently 87(30) outside, at 10am it's predicted to be 100(38), 95(35) at 9am. NorCal suffered from a 6.0 Quake with 40 aftershocks within an hour or so on Wednesday out near Tahoe. All is quiet here in da wilderness. Oh and there is UPS package being delivered from in the Future to the Past here, it's from China, sorry I can't say more, the Temporal Prime Directive(for reference only) applies. My Queen sized 4" thick metal-wood bed spring foundation is a bit closer to completion, I installed the last 2 hex bolts, I just have to tighten 3 bolts and the bolting will be done, then I get to install 14 wood slats with velcro and then bag it, sorry no tag here. The shipping weight was 53lbs and is near my current lifting capability... And the kit came with a hex ratchet too. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

It's blowing a gale on the top of this mountain here today with the mercury now up to 8C (though it feels like 2C out in that wind) and thankfully we didn't get the forecast month's worth of rain in that last spell of it, but we did get a half month's worth taking us to 1.5 times the average for July already just 10 days with another session of good rain due in 4 day's time. My yard will need at least a fortnight to dry out now as it is without anymore being added. :-( Anyhow I'm tossing up between having another coffee break or just getting on with commencing LLB. Cheers. |

Wabbit, wabbit, wabbit... Must be a bunny nearby, one that's bugs. I do wonder about the latest generations of rabbits around here... We've had months of 'lockdowns' and very few humans to disturb them and... There looks to be far too many of 'em that are unaware of humans and look to be far too brazenly tame... And we have steamy monsoon-style tropical sunshine! Thar'll be rainin' later!! See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

I know I am exceedingly fortunate both in terms of my age and my choice of employers. At the end of my first degree I was only a few quid of debt as i was old enough to get a grant, and got a full grant which covered everything. (boy, those were the days, so long ago....) My subsequent degrees came either as part of my job, or were paid for in full by my employers. But today I see normal students graduating with big debts, debts that will take them years to pay off. And woe betide them (or rather their bank balances) if they decide to go on to do almost any form of postgraduate studies. Countries demand better and better qualified staff, but many are unwilling to make it possible for their young people to gain those qualifications without incurring massive debt. I can't offer any real solutions without society as a whole changing its attitude to how graduate & postgraduate training costs are met.
