I didn't know there was that many. It is a place where the Mid-Atlantic Ridge is out of the water. So where the plates make new land there a bound to a few liquid areas. |

Splatter, splatter, yep it briefly rained here today. I'm still recovering on my left side from shopping, I've lifted 6 bags in one hand for years, only recently has the left hand hurt, the Doctors office is trying to arrange xrays in the office since the walking distance would be less, plus xrays for the left hip joint. @Carlos, Good luck my friend. I hope you get that job. :-) @Everyone, Been working on a 2008 Dual 2.8GHz Xeon Mac Pro with 24GB DDR2 ECC RAM. As given to me, there is a 1TB Hitachi HDD, a 3TB Seagate HDD with El Capitan, a 4TB Seagate HDD. I pulled the 4TB Drive completely out of the System. Set up El Capitan for my brother, (the system is going to him), then waited for my bro to obtain funds for two Samsung 860 EVO 1TB SSDs. We got them one at a time. With the first SSD, I obtained a clone of an Icy Dock plastic adapter box - 2.5 to 3.5 unit. I then proceeded to BootCamp the System to install Win 10 Pro. The Hitachi Drive became Time Machine for El Capitan. I installed tools for both El Capitan and Windows. Installed the latest NVIDIA Web Driver and CUDA Driver for El Capitan, then installed my old PNY NVIDIA GTX-970 4GB Mac Flashed GPU. In Win 10, I installed NVIDIA Driver 388.13 (WHQL) and Precision-X-1 from EVGA. Recently, my bro was able to obtain funds for the second SSD. I had cloned over the El Cap Hard Drive to the second SSD. Then reformatted the 3TB HDD to NTFS for a Data Drive for Win 10. (My bro says his wife has TOO many pics on her phone and on his old laptop.) The Data Drive will eventually be filled with pics and other data. Bay 1 now has Win 10 Pro, Bay 2 has El Capitan, Bay 3 has the 3TB Win-Data Drive, and Bay 4 is Time Machine. System has a PCI-e x1 WiFi Card. This IS recognized by both OSes. I plan to deliver the System to my bro in September. I'll be driving out with a friend, then celebrate my niece's B-Day on September 20th. Then set up the newly refurbished Mac Pro Dual Boot System for my bro. Then I fly back on September 29th. My bro needs this System as my niece sat on and broke the spare laptop that he was using while his wife had taken over his main laptop. His wife now uses that System for work. He's had NO computer of his own for MONTHS. [EDIT:] System was donated to me for this purpose by a friend from Collatz. This REALLY is MUCH MORE computer than my bro will EVER need. I'm going to do some more tweaking of El Capitan tomorrow, maybe copy my GOG.com games for him. Also log in to GOG.com and obtain the Win copies of said games for his Win 10. (7th Guest, 11th Hour, and Wing Commander III.) One game WILL require a USB Joystick - needs to be purchased. When I get to my brother's place in September, we will be hitting up Best Buy to obtain a 28" 4K Monitor, a 4K capable HDMI Cable, a multi-port USB Hub, a MacAlly Apple Keyboard with 10-Key, (full sized), and a Logitech M510 Optical Mouse. (I'm going to see if I can coax him into obtaining a Logitech C920S Webcam, too.) Lastly, a Soundbar and Optical Fiber Cable to connect to the Mac Pro's Digital Out. Without Webcam, the Best Buy purchases, AND the Upgrades to the Mac Pro come to approx. $1,300.00 including the DVD copy of Win 10 Pro. The Mac Flashed GPU NOW costs $515 plus $14 Shipping from MacVidCards, (GPU shortages on new product have driven up prices on used cards, too), I got the card for $329 from E-Bay almost 2 years ago. All in all, at present prices, I value this complete system, (with the upcoming Best Buy purchases), at approx. $2.5 to $2.7K. TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Thanks, everyone. Will hear back in about a week. They have 2 others they want to interview. TL I just upgraded my son's computer. Got him an AMD RYZEN 9 3900X, motherboard, and 64 GB DDR4 ram. I have the old AMD, motherboard, and DDR3 ram. Let me know if you want it. Forgot which cpu it is. I will take a look if you have any interest. I think I purchased this stuff in 2016. |

Thanks, everyone. Will hear back in about a week. They have 2 others they want to interview. [@Carlos,] Thank you for the opportunity, BUT IF I take that equipment off your hands, my parents will shoot me. I still have Exeter, (Win XP Pro x64 - SP-2), sitting in my bedroom next to my old Mac Clone - PowerComputing PowerWave 604/132, (Apple 9500 Clone), just gathering dust. I'd love to build another AMD System, but, like I said, with my current Hackintosh, my Mac Pro 5,1, and a recently obtained Mac Pro 3,1, (from same source as my bro's System), I'm already pushing the limits.... I might have a youngster through my dad's contacts who may want the old AMD stuff though. Let me talk with the kid to see if he's interested. I'll get back to you by PM, or by phone. [@Everyone] Found that keeping Win 10 Pro as "Startup Disk" in the Mac Startup Parameters has wonky issues now with the El Capitan newly cloned SSD. If I hit and hold "Option" during bootup to get the Available Bootable Disk List, then select El Capitan, I keep getting a "No Entry" sign. However; IF I change the "Default" "Startup Disk" to El Capitan, then El Capitan's SSD boots no problem. So, for now, I have El Cap as the Primary Boot Device. NOW, I have to hold "Option" to get to boot Win 10 Pro. Thankfully, Win 10's SSD has no issues with the "Option Menu" and boots properly from the Menu List. Got the three games from my Hackintosh copied over to El Capitan. Have yet to Login to GOG.com to get the Win copies of the games. Spent today Updating 3rd Party Software. (CPUID HWMonitor, CPUID - CPU-Z, TechPowerUp GPU-Z, and LibreOffice. Also VLC Media Player.) Updated El Capitan's 3rd Party Software, too.... (Hackintiosh Tool - HWMonitor, (NOT to be confused with CPUID HWMonitor), LibreOffice, and VLC.) Found that with Win 10 Dual Booting with MacOS on the 2008 System that I had to install a QWORD in Registry for "RealTimeIsUniversal = 1".... This ISN'T supposed to be needed on a real Mac. My 2010 5,1 Mac Pro with Mojave 10.14.6, Sierra 10.12.1, and Win 7 Pro x64 Triple Boot System that Win 7 HAS NOT needed the QWORD of "RealTimeIsUniversal = 1".... This Hack IS needed on Hackintosh Systems or even on PC Systems Dual Booting Linux and Windows. The 2008 3,1 may have issues with Win 10, or Win 10 just has issues Dual Booting.... I have no way to know for sure what is causing the issue with Win 10, just that AFTER the Reg Hack, the Clock IS keeping correct time, now. For now, I think everything that can be done for my bro has been done. System is now at peak efficiency. Can't wait to get it to him in September. :-) TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... [@Everyone] Have had similar issues on a real Mac. Boot loader may think you are trying to do an end run around security. IE boot into a place where you have access to what it thinks should be a password protected drive. In my case I had two copies of the same O/S on different drives. Could not boot into the other unless I went to a different version first. PITA, but I get it. No more have the computer and boot from an external to steal from the internal. |
