I am starting this thread for one close to me, but others are free to join in as needed.

My friend, confidant, significant other, and soul mate, Lori.......has contracted and is now fighting COVID. And at our age, that is no small matter, of course. She got it from a co-worker, who got it from a co-worker, who got it from a co-worker, and so on.

She started feeling 'off' last Wednesday, but she also has suffered from seasonal allergies for years, so didn't think too much of it at that point.

She got up and went to work Thursday morning and things got worse.
She went back home after a couple of hours and things went downhill from there.
She got a terrible headache, developed a dry hacking cough, started running a fever, and had aches and pains all over her body. She managed to get into her doctor for the official test and should get the result soon, but there is no doubt she has it, as it has been confirmed in some of her co-workers.
I talked to her yesterday and she had gotten very little sleep Thursday night, her chest congestion and cough were a little worse, and her stomach muscles were getting sore from all the coughing. She feels like she's been dragged through a knothole, and has very little energy. Damned dreadful disease, it is.

I am beside myself with worry for her, and praying that she can fight it off and she doesn't get any worse.
So, if any of you has a spare moment and are so inclined, it would be appreciated if you would join with me in a prayer or two for her strength and recovery.
Thank you.

Meowsigh.

Ouch - sadly all too common a story :-(
Made even worse by you knowing the person.
Take care - Lori & the Kitties need you at this time.

I got a Pfizer vaccine shot on March 5 and has to receive a second shot on March 26.Old people are being vaccinated in Italy also with Astra-Zeneca vaccine. There have been a number of fatal accidents after the Astra-Zeneca vaccine but the Italian Health Institution, Farmitalia, says it is safe. My best wishes to you and Lori.

Note that, with the large numbers of people being vaccinated (millions of people, literally), some fatal accidents will happen just as naturally normally do happen amongst millions of people. 'Something' might happen, even if there is completely no connection with the vaccine itself, other than that whatever 'incident' happened to happen around that time, purely by coincidence.

We now have the most thorough test results for the various COVID vaccines by shear dint that we have vaccinated so many people!

Far more unhealthy is to suffer COVID...

Best wishes for Lori.

Stay safe folks!

Some updates for today...........

Lori heard back from the doctor's office about the test. Positive, of course. But we already knew that.

She is about the same as yesterday, although her headache has diminished to a tolerable level.
Her coughing has let up just a little bit, so she was able to get some sleep last night.
Still absolutely no energy at all. Still running a fever which varies a bit over time. Doctor said both symptoms might continue for a week or more.
Her chest is still congested, but she is not experiencing any breathing difficulty. Doctor said if she starts to have ANY breathing problems, don't wait, go to the hospital immediately!
Doctor said acetaminophen and/or ibuprofen was OK for the fever and the aches and pains. A combo of the two might be more effective.
If it warms up outside enough and she feels up to it, he said going outside for some fresh air would not hurt things a bit.
And she was told she should still get vaccinated any time after Monday, when the appointments open up for our group around here.

Doctor said, depending on how she does between now and then and how she is feeling at the time, that she could return to work on the 29th and would no longer be considered contagious at that point. I am certain that she would still mask up if she does so, she was always wearing her mask beforehand whenever anybody else was present.

She is not out of the woods yet, as things can turn better or much worse at any time during the first week in particular.
Still touch and go, but I am at least relieved that she woke up this morning without any drastic decline in her condition. One day at a time...........

Many thanks to all who have expressed their support here.

Meow for now.

Here's the scoop for today........

Lori seemed to be in better spirits today when I talked to her, I could hear it in her voice. Between all the coughing and the virus itself, her voice was just a little horse, but improved. She feels well enough that she's going to try to sit outside in the fresh air for a while later.

She was coughing up a lot of phlegm yesterday and choking on it at times, which was kinda scary for her. So, she slept last night sitting up on her couch bundled with blankets. But that seems to have calmed down a bit. Not coughing quite as much now.
Her headache is still there, but at a lower level. She still has muscle and joint aches and pains, but they are not as acute as they were yesterday. And she is only running a very slight fever today.
She is still very very weak and low energy, and has to be careful to maintain her balance when up and about.

County health services called her earlier today, and was asking all sorts of questions about her current status and her underlying health issues, as well as the conditions under which she contracted the virus at work. They also said that they are now recommending checking into the monoclonal antibody treatment, as there is accumulating evidence that it is producing very favorable results. Lori was going to look into that tomorrow morning anyway, but it was good to hear that it appears to be effective.
The county also said that they have to clear her before she can return to work, and will be calling her again next weekend to verify how she is doing.

So, Lori is still a very sick kitty, but I could tell she had a much better outlook today than she did yesterday. And positive attitude is sometimes more powerful than the best medicine.
And that made me feel a lot better today as well.

Meow for now..............

Lori called me last evening, and said that she was able to get in a long afternoon nap.
And upon rising she was feeling a fair amount better overall.
None of her symptoms had really gone away, just diminished a bit.
Hopefully that holds when she gets up today, we shall see when I talk to her later.

Well........
Lori is still in for a tussle with this dang COVID, I think.

Today the only positive is she thinks her chest is a little less congested and she's coughing up maybe a little less gunk up.
But....
Still the headache, still no energy, very achy all over, gets dizzy when she gets up from sitting or when bending over to pick up the kitty bowls from the floor. And the fever is back again.
She was told today not to schedule an appointment for the vaccine until she has completely cleared the virus, so she couldn't get that set up yet.
She decided not to pursue the monoclonal antibodies because her chest seemed better today. I hope it doesn't come back on her and get bad again.

So, she's up and about, but it's still a battle for her.

Meows for nows.

Actually, that is also part of her problems.
Water tends to run in one end and out the other, and her stomach has been giving her a fair amount of upset too.
She was going to try to eat some dinner again when I talked to her a couple of hours ago.

I know that feeling all to well. About every hour to hour and a half it is a bathroom trip. You begin to think that you were just in there. It also plays hob with your sleeping patterns. You are up and down more than you want to be. Makes you want to give up on fluids. Just keep with her and see she doesn’t dehydrate.

Just talked to Lori.
Not doing well at all today.
Setbacks in just about all areas of her symptoms.
She is going to try to take a shower and call the doctor to see if she can get a referral for the monoclonal antibodies.

I just got a couple of phone calls from Lori's son Jason.

Lori was taken by ambulance to the hospital earlier this afternoon.
I had talked to her around 3PM, and this must have happened some time after that.
I do not yet know any details as to how or why. She was having dizzy spells, maybe she just got too dehydrated.

She is, however, being released now, and her sister is going to pick her up.
Whatever happened earlier, it must be resolved enough that they would release her to go home.
So, I am not quite as frightened as I was when Jason first called and the only information he had was that she was in the hospital. That really scared me.

I hope I shall hear from her soon. If not tonight yet, sometime tomorrow.
