I suspect there is more to it all than that...

  • Honest operator error (really?!)
  • Someone asleep at the wheel?
  • Dirty obscured windows?
  • Or an otherwise distracted helmsman?
  • Or?...

There is the comment that technical failures have been ruled out...

We are sailing!

Outlier

* Someone asleep at the wheel?

Possible

* Dirty obscured windows?

Not really

* Or an otherwise distracted helmsman?

High on the list

* Or?...

Unqualified ship pilot unfamiliar with the principles of Bernouli?

Get to near the edge of the canal and there can be some rather large twisting forces exerted.

For a large ship the actual useable channel is only a few metres wider than the ship. Stray beyond the limits and the bottom starts to attract the ship quite strongly. If a small correction is made early then there is no problem, but you are late, or make a violent correction then the chances of getting stuck rise very quickly indeed and one ends up in, at best, a very embarrassing position, at worst stuck fast.

I think this is my final DISH Network update.... (I hope....)

Due to the Hopper3 continually dropping off the network, we had
another Technician out on Sunday. I informed him of ALL the
troubles we've had since the original installation on 2-24. I also
informed him of the troubles I resolved through the new Linksys
Velop Mesh Network.

The FINAL issue with the Hopper3 DVR was that EVERY NIGHT
after the 3AM Auto-Updates, that the DVR would 'lose' its valid IP
Address of 10.x.x.x and go to an 'Internal' Non-Routable IP Address
of 169.x.x.x. So he went into the programming of the DVR to find
the Auto-Updater and 'deactivate' it. (Not recommended, but would
in fact stop the loss of the valid IP Address from/for the Mesh Network.)
I also have the DVR wired by Ethernet - Cat5e Cable.

When I watched him get into the Auto-Update area of the DVR, he
scrolled through the clock timer settings. Unfortunately the 'Never'
update selection has been removed by DISH.... So, we manually went
back to 3AM. NOW here's the 'funny' part.... Since performing a
manual selection of 3AM, the DVR has NOT lost its IP Address!!!

So, to restate, I 'think' the DVR problem has been resolved. NOW,
we FINALLY have 'perfected' DISH Network TV service. :-)

Going by a physical network cable will always beat anything wireless. Especially so using cat6 cables or even fibre. Cat5e works for Gigabits so long as the cable isn't too long and no nasty 90deg sharp bends or kinks.

Good luck!

Thanks, Martin. Yes, I agree with being Wired vs. Wireless, too.
In fact, the nice thing about the Linksys Velop Mesh Network is
that ALL the Nodes have Wired Ports. (Gigabit.) So, we have one
Node at each Wireless Joey STB. I added a Netgear GS-108, 8-Port
Gigabit Switch at the Family Room Node, and the Samsung 65"
Smart TV, the Sony Blu-Ray Player, AND the Wireless Joey STB
are ALL connected by Cat5e Cables to the Netgear Switch. Then,
the Netgear Switch on Port 8 connects by Cat5e to the Family
Room Mesh Node. Streaming Netflix and Amazon Prime Video
have GREATLY improved over the Wired Port on the Switch-to-Node
connection from/to the Samsung Smart TV.

ONLY our computers are connecting via WiFi to the Nodes. One Node
in the Master Bedroom, one in my bedroom, one in the spare bedroom,
one in the Family Room, and the Master Node/Router in my Attic-Computer
Room connected by Cat5e to our AT&T U-Verse Gateway.

My bedroom now has a Netgear GS-105, 5-Port Gigabit Switch. My
32" Samsung Smart TV, my Panasonic Blu-Ray Player, and the Joey
STB are all on Cat5e to the GS-105. The GS-105 on Port 5 goes to
the Mesh Node.

[EDIT:]

Edited to add the Family Room Mesh Node.
