Message 2136987 - Posted: 12 Jun 2024, 6:46:23 UTC - in response to Message 2136718.

Here is an example of someone so stupid, or just doesn't give a cr@p, that they should not be allowed out in public without a minder. Let alone allowed to drive any sort of vehicle.
A Michigan man has been sent to jail after he was caught driving while dialling into his court appearance about driving on a suspended licence.

Honestly, if someone told me about this at the pub, i'd think they were just winding me up with a load of B$.

According to the NYT, https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/04/us/corey-harris-zoom-suspended-license.html the suspension of his licence was rescinded in Jan 2022.

But the Michigan Department of State said on Tuesday that it had not been notified of the Saginaw County judge’s order to lift Mr. Harris’s suspension.
So his license is still suspended while it's not meant to be?
It just gets more ridiculous as time goes on.
This story just keeps on giving.

Corey Harris did get a suspension, way back in 2010, for failure to pay child support. But it turns out that a judge rescinded that in 2022. So Harris didn’t understand, he told WXYZ News, “how he even ended up being charged with driving while license suspended” after an October 2023 traffic stop.
the fact remains: Harris knew he’d been charged with driving without a license, and he appeared for a hearing on that charge via a Zoom video call he made while driving a car.

But it gets better.

But it is true, in a sense, that he did not “deserve to have his license suspended in the first place.” This is not so much because the policy is unfair, but because he never had a license to begin with.
"The state couldn’t have suspended my client’s license, Your Honor, because he’s never had one! The defense rests."

Except, again, for the driving part.

And then this little bit to round things off

Asked why he didn’t get a license during that time, Harris told the judge he couldn’t get to the Secretary of State’s office because he was “bedridden due to an accident.” It apparently didn’t occur to him that the judge might have records showing Harris had in fact been to that very office on December 28 to renew his state ID. But he did.

Oh dear. You give someone a boat and then they try to wreck it. :-(

Fiji Navy patrol boat runs aground on maiden voyage, months after being donated by Australia.

If you come across an old sealed tomb with wine in it I suggest that you don't drink it.

Oldest Ever Liquid Wine Discovered—With Gruesome Surprise Inside.

.......The team's analysis revealed the mineral salt profile of the liquid, and, detected certain typical polyphenols, which enabled them to identify it as white wine. The reddish hue of the wine is something that has developed over time because of chemical reactions, according to the researchers.

Intriguingly, the funerary urn holding the wine also contained the cremated bone remains of a male individual, as well as a gold ring. This urn was one of six containing cremated bone remains—those of three males and three females—that were found within niches in the wall of the mausoleum chamber. Only one urn contained the reddish liquid, however......
Cheers.

Don't they teach geography in the U.S.?

Tasmania or Tanzania? Bindi Irwin's Cradle Mountain holiday blunder by US magazine People.

Tasmania has had many tourism slogans over the years from 'Come down for air' to 'Go behind the scenery', but perhaps it should consider 'not to be confused with Tanzania'.

A major United States celebrity news publication has mistaken Australia's island state for the East African country after the world-famous Irwin family visited Cradle Mountain, with Bindi Irwin posting images from her family's trip on her Instagram, which has a following of 5.7 million people.

She made the trip to the Tasmanian national park with her husband Chandler, daughter Grace, brother Robert and mother Terri.

Attracting global attention, it was picked up by People which touts itself as the number one source for the "most trustworthy celebrity news".

It published a story about the trip, noting "Bindi was joined by her husband, daughter, mother and brother for the trip to the East African country".......

I'm sorry, but the young girl has so much Botox pumped into that face that of hers that a frown is all she can do these days.

The Beckhams have recreated their wedding looks for their 25th anniversary, digging out the matching purple outfits they wore on their big day.

So there's no recreation going on there.

Cheers.

Welcome to the 20th century and something that we've been using here for over 40yrs.

New York City trolled for only just discovering ‘revolutionary’ wheelie bins.

New York City has discovered wheelie bins.

In what the famous tourist destination is calling a “trash revolution” to clean up the streets and curb the city’s problem rat population, wheelie bins will finally be introduced instead of leaving rubbish bags on the street.

But those watching on from across the world can’t believe wheelie bins don’t already exist there.

NYC mayor Eric Adams began his press conference rolling in a bin and proudly demonstrating how to use it before celebrating with colleagues.

He said “many people thought it was impossible” that these wheelie bins were going to be part of the city’s “trash revolution”........
