Meteor sightings reported across Queensland

Mark Agius was relaxing on the deck of his Townsville home when the sky suddenly lit up at 9:30pm on Saturday.
"We noticed the light was increasing and thought, OK this is weird, it's like a sunrise," Mr Agius said.
"Then the sky lit up first white then green and when it disappeared over the horizon to the west it had a yellowish hue or ting to it."

Just a few suburbs over, Mustafa Al-Hassan noticed a chorus of barking from the neighbourhood dogs in Mount Low.
"I was getting ready to go to sleep and I heard the dogs barking really loudly and that was unusual," Mr Al-Hassan said.
"I got curious and checked the security footage and there it was.

Don't sit down or bend over...
Pair of scissors found inside jail detainee during processing, officials say
The talk at the LaPorte County Indiana Jail is about the way a man recently tried to smuggle in a sharp object.

Detainees going into the jail have to go through a body scanner to prevent contraband from getting inside.

And deputies find all sorts of things, often drugs.

This time, it was a pair of scissors, in a place you don’t normally find scissors.

During an initial scan, a foreign object was detected in a body cavity in the man’s nether region.

A second scan confirmed the presence of the scissors – a regular pair of household scissors, 8 1/2 inches long.

The object was extracted, officials said.

All yours for £30,000.

With 20 acres (16 hectares) of land.

But there is a slight catch.

It needs £12 million for renovations.

True - the trust has run out of money to do the development they wanted to do, so now they want someone to come along with a mountain of money to do the work for them so they can carry on with their ego-driven scheme.
Anyone who has ever been to the Shetlands will tell you that they are not the most hospitable place to live, or set up a retreat centre (which from the scant information on-line looks more like a rather down market, but flashy, hotel than a place to host "retreats").

If I was in the financial position to spend 12 million on doing up a place like that I would want control over its future use, and not trust a group who have already blown a shed load of money on some very basic repairs with its continued use and development within the community.

Will they give it a 3rd go?

Dramatic footage has shown the moment an incomplete bridge collapsed for the second time in a year, once again raising questions about its safety.

Dramatic footage shows the moment a four-lane bridge collapsed mid-construction for the second time in just over a year, once again raising questions about its safety.

Videos taken by bystanders showed the 3km bridge crashing into India’s River Ganges on Sunday, sending a plume of debris and dust into the sky and waves rippling across the holy river.

Crowds of people could be seen shouting as the bridge tumbled down. It’s not clear whether anyone was injured.

The Sultanganj Bridge in the east Indian state of Bihar has collapsed twice since its construction began in 2017 — the first time in April last year before Sunday’s catastrophic failure.

It’s not clear why the bridge collapsed last year or if those problems had been rectified.

On Monday, Bihar’s chief minister Nitish Kumar said he had ordered an inquiry into the incident.

The Canadian design and engineering firm behind the bridge, McElhanney, said on Monday it was aware of the “partial collapse” of the bridge and was “deeply concerned” about the safety and wellbeing of those affected....
