The quiet skies? Well not quite, but it's an interesting place to fit the motors.

Alice, world's first all-electric passenger plane, takes to the skies.

he world's first all-electric passenger plane took to the skies for the first time to reach an altitude of 3,500 feet during an 8-minute flight in Washington.

After years of development by Eviation Aircraft, the inaugural flight of the zero-emissions plane that's powered by two 640-kilowatt electric motors went off without a hitch when it look off at 7:10 am on Tuesday from Grant County International Airport in Moses Lake, Washington.

Alice is targeted for commuter and cargo markets and will typically operate flights ranging from 150 to 250 miles. For context, a standard flight from New York City to Washington, D.C. is about 206 miles by plane....
Cheers.

Melbourne's last typewriter repairman, Tom Koska
So in an era of instant communication, Mr Koska's skills are still in demand.

"I've actually never been busier," the 79-year-old said.
"Every week I am receiving a typewriter from somebody who wants it repaired. "Sometimes somebody may have inherited it from a grandparent and they want it restored as a memento.
"But I also have requests from young people — children as young as 10 who have made the request of their parents.

Country music legend Loretta Lynn has died at the age of 90.
A spokesperson for the singer-songwriter's family announced the sad news on Tuesday.
"Our precious mom, Loretta Lynn, passed away peacefully this morning, October 4th, in her sleep at home in her beloved ranch in Hurricane Mills (in Tennessee)," they stated.
Lynn's family has asked for privacy, with an announcement regarding a memorial to be made in the coming days.

I guess throwing the iPhone in anger at something is not going to make you feel better. Stop iPhone abuse before it calls emergency services.

Race cars without wheels, what's next?

In a world first, flying race cars reaching new heights from South Australia.

Cheers.

Those are just big drones. Look at the remote control.

What difference is that from drone racing?

You obviously didn't read the article then.;-)

...They are currently flown by remote control but, within 18 months, pilots such as Lexie Jenson will be airborne inside the crewed aircraft, a major drawcard for her to move to Adelaide from Europe....
Cheers.

Senior engineer reported to management for failing to fix a stapler
The seasons turn, the tides ebb and flow. Just as regularly, each Friday The Register delvers another instalment of On-Call, our reader-contributed tale of another sad constant: IT people being asked to do amazingly dumb things.

Have you ever been asked to fix something that was not even on your job responsibilities list?

One of the quasi-governmental organizations I did IT support for instituted a policy whereby anyone could escalate any IT ticket up to "severity one" highest priority, which automatically triggered a broadcast to IT and a conference of the incident co-ordinators, among other things.

Predictably, this policy lasted approximately one week before it was cancelled, because a mid-level exec. invoked the a severity one IT incident process as he didn't think that the plant in his new office matched the other décor.
