3-22-2022 at 7:53 PM - PDT OK - WHEN did ASUS start using the CHEAP crap Intel SSDs???!!!??? My dad's ASUS Q537, which is two months shy of two years old, took a HUGE dump last week. Because it's a laptop, I personally CANNOT work on it; so, I took it in to my favorite computer parts source, Central Computers in Newark, CA to have them diagnose and repair the system. Their instructions were to diagnose the failed Intel SSD and determine IF it could be cloned to a new Samsung. I HAD picked the Samsung 870 EVO SATA III style drive, but upon opening the case, they found it to be an M.2 NVME SSD. So, they recommended the Samsung 980, which turns out was about $20 cheaper than the 870 EVO. (1TB model. $99.99 for the 980 SSD.) The cloning failed, and further diagnosis could NOT locate dad's Login Profile! Windows FULLY COLLAPSED! So, Central Computers had to install Win 10 Pro from scratch onto the 980 Drive. Thanks to the new Hardware ID Key Windows uses on Installs, the replacement Install recognized that a previous Win 10 Pro had been on the System before. So, NO CHARGE for Windows. (YEAH!!!!!) Dad only had to pay the failed cloning fee, and the $99.99 for the SSD. When dad brought the computer home, I went to work reinstalling all the software that had been on there before. Firefox, MS Office Home and Business 2013, and so on. After 2 Hours of work, including locking Win 10 Pro down with F8 Legacy Safe Mode, Local Login Accounts Only, OpenDNS in the Hosts File and in TCP/IP v4, changing Themes to Light Mode for Windows and Firefox, Installing the proper NVIDIA WHQL Driver to get CUDA and everything else, (System has a 1050 4GB GPU), and then restoring MOST of dad's data from backup the System is back to 'normal' now. So, DON'T use Intel SSDs! They're CHEAP A$$ CRAP STUFF! TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |

Being it was in a laptop, I'm wondering if it died due to excessive heat. Especially since that laptop has an internal GPU. |

Hey! If you've got hopping happy frogs, then that sounds good and cleanly healthy for the townsfolk. The Murray Cod grow well up here in the mountains and make for good fishing before eating while we're as upstream as you can get before you hit the national park where the headwaters of this river are. ;-) But, do you know what possibe toxins are in that rain water that falls from the sky?Red dust and bushfire soot that gets blown up here on rare occasions can be a problem at times meaning that downpipes get disconnected and the roofs rinsed down (thankfully that job doesn't happen very often here as yet), but being almost 1km up and hundreds of kilometres away from any industrial pollution sources (which usually goes straight out to sea) makes our rainwater better to drink than that from the river. :-) Only good mountain country living goes on here. ;-) Cheers. |

But there are many other critters here to worry about Vic, especially those big 7' killer kangaroos as they can jump, kick, box and rip your guts out all at the same time. ;-). Anyhow we're still waiting for that rain to turn up, but I guess that it will get here eventually. Cheers. |

Being it was in a laptop, I'm wondering if it died due to excessive heat. Especially since that laptop has an internal GPU. Hardware Monitor keeps stating that Temps are below 50C. (39C for CPU, and 45C for GPU.) System has a 10th Gen i7 processor, 16GB RAM - (2x8GB Sticks), and touch screen. Also has backlit keyboard. Heat 'could' have been an issue, but at these temps, I doubt it. [EDIT:] System also has the 'Internal' - Intel UHD-630 GPU on the CPU. This, also, states in HW Monitor that it hovers in the 40+C range. TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |

World's largest 'drone superhighway' could be built in ENGLAND. The idea of a drone superhighway may sound like a concept from the latest science fiction blockbuster. Cheers. |

Now I understand why Americans are moaning about the price of petrol (sorry, gasoline). When the price is £3.16 for a U.S. gallon locally. We tend to get disgruntled about it. Let alone the added cost to other goods and commodities. |
