It would be bad enough if the decimal point was one place to the left but as it is...

Very sad. :-(

Tourists crushed to death in freak rock fall near waterfall.

Five people have tragically died and 32 are injured after a wall of rock collapsed on top of tourist boats below a waterfall in Brazil.

A tower of rocks suddenly broke away from the canyon wall and came crashing down on several leisure boats, sending out a huge wave over in Furnas Lake, near Capitólio, The Sun reports.

Video images showed a gathering of small boats moving slowly near the sheer rock cliff on Furnas Lake when a fissure appeared in the rock and a huge piece toppled directly onto at least two of the vessels.

At least one wrecked boat sank, others sped away.

Firemen, including divers, said they were searching for 20 people believed to be missing.

The people hurt in the accident had broken bones and one was in serious condition in hospital with head and facial injuries....

Not so freak, just infrequent. Still sad.

Not a good idea to spend too much time beneath cliffs, or on top of them near the edge.

Don't even need to be that close if the rocks fall into the water.

A really big one waiting to happen is in the Canary Islands for Mount Teide to lose the northern flank into the sea...

Here's a pop-press style article to give the idea of what will happen sometime:

Killer Earthquakes, life-threatening Tsunamis and Huge Death Toll expected When the Tenerife Volcano Teide erupts!

And this is what happened for the last big splash from there:

Explosive eruption, flank collapse and megatsunami at Tenerife...

All very real yet incomprehensible... All without precaution or contingency.

Stay safe folks!

Can I point you to a respected volcanologist Valentin Troll, Uppsala University and his recent lecture on Tenerife. The Geology of TENERIFE & TEIDE NATIONAL PARK
He talks about the historical collapses from about 00:33:00 and the chances of them in the future.

Activision Files Unusual Lawsuit over Call of Duty Cheat Codes
Activision, publisher of the enormously popular gaming franchise Call of Duty, has taken an extraordinary step to try and shut down cheat software by suing the popular site EngineOwning (EO).

Attorneys for Activision argue EO’s cheating exploits are nothing more than illegal software hacks that disturb the competitive balance of the game, driving players to quit and publicly bash the game on social media.

Imagine going on a cruise, but instead of arriving home you wind up being kicked off in the Bahamas. :-O

A cruise ship had an arrest warrant waiting in Miami. So it took passengers to the Bahamas.

A cruise ship heading to Miami changed course to the Bahamas Saturday after a US judge issued an arrest warrant for the ship due to unpaid fuel bills.

If the Crystal Symphony had continued course to Miami, it would have been seized by authorities. So it headed to Bimini instead, as USA Today first reported. The ship is still docked at the Bahama port, according to a cruise ship tracker.

The saga began Wednesday, when Peninsula Petroleum Far East filed a lawsuit in a South Florida federal court against Crystal Cruises, alleging it owed unpaid fuel bills totaling more than $4.6 million — of which $1.2 million is for Crystal Symphony specifically.

On Thursday, a US judge issued an arrest warrant ahead of the ship's scheduled Saturday arrival in Miami, meaning the ship would be seized by a US Marshal and court-appointed custodian.

Crystal Cruises said about 300 passengers were transferred by ferry on Sunday from Bimini, Bahamas, to Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. In a statement to the Associated Press, a spokesperson said that the ferry ride to Fort Lauderdale was "uncomfortable due to inclement weather."

"This end to the cruise was not the conclusion to our guests' vacation we originally planned for," the cruise line said in a statement....
I wonder what the passengers thought of that cruising experience.

Cheers.

Not quite the ending to a trip I would have wanted.
I guess now the passengers, being mostly Americans, will be sharpening their own lawyers to get compensation for their disrupted holidays.
Further, can an International Arrest Warrant be issued for a ship in this sort of case?

The crew have a fairly solid defence (below captain and navigation officer), but the cruise line are in for some very stormy waters.
