These occurrences happen more often than you think, but I still find them funny.

‘Missing’ drunk man accidentally joins his own search party.

Cheers.

Similar things have happened with a fair degree of regularity.
The self-searcher may not have been drunk, just "having a kip" in a suitable concealed place of repose, has emerged from said place and heard that there is a search going on for a missing person. The thought pattern "Can't be looking for me as I'm not lost" kicks in, and being a public spirited person they join the hunt (for themselves)

One-character bug gives away $90m in COMP tokens – recipients can keep 10% or consider themselves doxxed
Hand back the money or I'm letting the IRS know, says DeFi biz boss

The founder of decentralized finance biz Compound Labs, has asked for the return of roughly $90m worth of COMP tokens after a smart contract bug distributed more of the cryptocurrency than it should have.

Woman wakes up to meteorite on her bed.

A Canadian woman is thanking her lucky stars after narrowly avoiding a meteorite that slammed into her pillow while she slept, according to a report.

Ruth Hamilton was snoozing in her home in Golden, a town in southeastern British Columbia, on October 4 when she heard a crash and felt debris on her face, Victoria News reported.

“I just jumped up and turned on the light, I couldn’t figure out what the heck had happened,” Ms Hamilton told the news outlet.

A police officer who responded to her emergency call wondered if the jagged object that landed on her pillow might have come from a nearby construction project.

“We called the Canyon project to see if they were doing any blasting and they weren’t,” she said, referring to local road building works. “But they did say they had seen a bright light in the sky that had exploded and caused some booms.

Cheers.

Doubt if that's the first time that a building has been built the wrong way round, and nor will it be the last.

Someone didn't notice which way up the sun rises?...

That reminds me of an unbelievable series of 'muck-ups' for some outside contractors putting up an equipment room...

The job should have been done within a month but took a lot lot longer running scarily into Christmas...

The main 'highlights' started with the concrete floor not being sealed or painted and so it looked like something out of a flour mill for concrete dust! They tried to argue that sealing the floor was not in the finishing spec!!

We then had:

  • Door position attempt #1: Well off from the architect drawing and it would open directly into the side of equipment so that you would not be able to get in in any case!
  • Door moved to position #2: Right location, but the wrong way round! Again, the door couldn't be opened due to the planned equipment. Fixed on attempt #3;
  • The redundant aircon wasn't redundant due to too low a thermal capacity... Everything had to be shifted over (after having been fitted) to make space for an additional unit;
  • The original room size was sized to exactly fit the equipment...! We forced the room to be built bigger to be increased in size to accomodate the biggest beer belly in the room;
  • The beer belly for the electrician was then found to be yet bigger than our beer bellies... (Hence we have belt buckle scrapes gouged out along the walls...);
  • The phases of the three phase supply cables were wired randomly into the circuit breakers!!! I had to hijack the electrician for the afternoon to correctly reconnect the distribution boxes!!!
  • No earth cable! Added as an afterthought...
  • Later, we found the earth cables to be too small a gauge and so they had to be re-cabled correctly...
  • No surge protectors... Added as an afterthought...
  • And (not finally), some cabling that was offered for use had a rather curious spec rather than the normal spec expected... Turns out, that was an attempt to offload cheap old cable that had been languishing for years and was outdated by the newer specs. Caught that trick!... Didn't catch them going 'around the houses' to charge for unnecessarily long cabling...

All very profitably deliberately dumb?...

All in our dumb greedy world!

How absolutely negligent of the contractors - they should have at least claimed to have run 4x cable so they could wire their new pool/patio/attic heaters along with their way over the top path lighting that could be mistaken for a small airport.....

Figures of Babylon: oldest drawing of a ghost found in British Museum vault
It is part of an exorcist’s guide to getting rid of unwanted ghosts by addressing the particular malaise that brought them back to the world of the living – in this case, a ghost in desperate need of a companion. He is shown walking with his arms outstretched, his wrists tied by a rope held by the female, while an accompanying text details a ritual that would to dispatch them happily to the underworld.

Rare New England shilling found in Bywell Hall sweet tin
A rare example of one of the USA's first coins has been found hidden in a collection kept inside a sweet tin.

The mid-17th Century New England shilling was found by Wentworth Beaumont at his family's home of Bywell Hall in Northumberland.

The coin was struck in 1652 for use as currency by early settlers in the Massachusetts Bay Colony.

It is hoped the coin could sell for £200,000 when it goes for auction in London next month.

Shipwrecks lifted up from the sea floor and humans wern't involved.

Underwater volcanic activity reveals ghost ships from WWII in Japan.

Seismic activity of underwater volcano Fukutoku-Okanoba created a small island and revealed sunken warships from World War II about 808 miles from Tokyo, according to Vice Magazine...

....According to the Japanese Coast Guard, the newly formed island is hardened lava and has already started to sink. It is made of pumice and volcanic ash that erodes easily by surrounding elements.

The islet was originally 0.62 miles and is now half its size.

Mayan artifacts discovered along train construction route in Mexico.

Archaeologists say they have discovered hundreds of Mayan artifacts, including ceramic vessels and burial sites, along the route of a train construction project in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

Researchers have so far discovered nearly 2,500 pre-Hispanic structures, 80 burial sites and thousands of vessels and fragments along the route of the "Maya Train," Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) announced in a statement Thursday.

The artifacts were discovered with the help of GPS georeferencing, satellite topographic images and LIDAR sensors in the periphery of just one of the sections of the project, which runs from the cities of Palenque, in Chiapas to Escárcega, in Campeche.

Discoveries ranged from mounds to bases with complex architecture, INAH archaeologists Ileana Echauri Pérez and Iliana Ancona Aragón said. The pair also worked with INAH investigator Silvianne Boucher Le Landais.
I'm surprised that finds like these are still being found.

Cheers.

Ohio printed 35,000 wrong Wright Brothers license plates

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, unveiled the new "Sunrise in Ohio" license plate in Columbus, Ohio. Ohio's new license plate failed to take off after the illustration of a banner in flight was attached to the wrong end of the Wright Brothers’ first plane. The new plate’s banner reads “Birthplace of Aviation.” The banner should have been trailing behind the plane but was attached to the front. (Jessie Balmert/The Cincinnati Enquirer via AP)
