Stunning dash-cam footage captures meteor hurtling over the UK.

A meteor has “caused a sonic boom”, sparking a massive bang which was heard for miles in England’s south-west this weekend.

Hundreds in Devon, Dorset and Somerset reported hearing the mystery blast at around 3pm Saturday afternoon.

A taxi driver in Jersey filmed video of the meteor entering the atmosphere.

Footage shows the meteor disintegrating around the same time residents reported the huge sonic boom.

It has not been confirmed what caused the giant rumble, with the Ministry of Defence denying any involvement.

However, astronomer Will Gater claimed on social media that the believed the bright light could be a bolide meteor.
Cheers.

Hi,

I'm hoping you can help me make sense of the grammar of the following sentence (from ISBN 9781588346919):

"Teegarden's star counts itself in the majority of suns in the Milky Way."

I'm guessing that the gist is that Teegarden's star belongs to the most populous class of stars in our galaxy.

I'm not familiar with that use of "count somebody in" though. Are you?

And no, I'm not a native English speaker. The author of that book is, though.

That's the way I read "counts itself as.....".
It is not uncommon for writers to use words and phrases appear to make an inanimate object into a human.

Yes, your guess is correct.

I've not read the context but that phrasing is a rather 'old style' and is overly 'pretentious'.

Simply rewriting: "Teegarden's star is amongst the majority of suns in the Milky Way."

Although I much prefer your phrase.

re: Teegardens Star

Gentlemen,

The Phrase "Teegarden's star counts itself in the majority of suns in the Milky Way." is at best disingenuous and bad grammar.

A star is a celestial object in space, it does not have an intelligence of its own to decide matters for itself. Mankind has chosen upon it's behalf to so designate the star's status in our eyes.

Teegarden's Star is simply classified as a red dwarf, which make up the largest population of stars in the galaxy.

I send you my best wishes for a Happy Easter,

A woman was charged with a felony for not returning a VHS tape. She found out 21 years later.

McBride didn't find out about the outstanding warrant against her until she tried to change her name on her license after getting married and moving .

She believes her boyfriend at the time who had two young daughters rented the tape in her name.

Though the case was dismissed and expunged Wednesday, Caron McBride is looking into legal options.

My high school English Teacher, mentor, and long time friend passed. His original Cafe Pacifico featured my photography of old Mexico. He taught me to look to beauty that is often ignored. Shadows, textures and some whimsy. Rest in Peace Mr. Estes.
