I think some of you need to look at why the U.S. imports crude oil and doesn't rely only on the oil reserves in North America.

Hint look up the differences in Texas WTI, which is running out and Canada WCS which has huge deposit left.

Never have I read a more uninformed, ignorant and "religious" essay. NATO nations were warned that they were making Russia rich by buying their oil and gas and not putting their required monetary support and arms focus into the NATO coalition. Europeans were duped into expensive and un-reliable alternative production of energy--even shutting down nuclear plants. This left them short and dependent on Russian gas and oil. The purpose of Nato was to counter the Russians --now Europe was making them stronger. Yes it had been many years since the end of the cold war but ambitions are long-lived.

In the US meanwhile, The suspension of permits, pipelines and leases put the US into a net importing country from a net exporter. Energy producers were not going to try to start expensive projects in the face of this phony environmental uncertainty. Well, smart investors don't subscribe to faulty economics and eco-think. Once Joe got in the price of oil moved steadily up from around $50 to about $115 over the ensuing year. I see the price of Natural gas also going up 50% or more. And for sure gasoline is now double that off its low point a year or so ago. The money flowing in to Russia then became a bonanza for the Putin war machine --all he had to do was look at the Afghanistan mess to realize that the weak, doddering , chicken s##t bastards of the West would cower in fear if he were to take a bold excursion.

You may call this a myth but it may actually be too late to dig out of this situation. How much more do we need to see before we swat this monster from the face of the Earth. Nuclear weapons are apparently a reason to excuse reckless adventures and world domination.
