Do you believe that Inflation has only been 6.8 % since a year ago. Do you believe they used a correct consumer price index to come up with this. Do you believe inflation is "Transitory" as per sleepy Joe and the narrative of the Media. If so, I have some property in Florida that I would like to offer you and part ownership in the Brooklyn bridge. I am also offering freezer distribution rights in Alaska and Antartica.

I figure anyone who drives to work, heats their home, shops for a new or used car likes bacon and eating a good steak would put the inflation rate so far at about 15 to 20 % or more.

Rebuttals welcome

Okay, what levels of importance do you attach, and why?

OK, thank you for the link; here is what I think based on the careful home budget records that I keep"

Food is 30% of my budget--family of three, and I shop mostly the specials and loss leaders. I believe food has gone up at around 30%.

Energy (including gasoline) is 13% of my budget--3800 sq ft home in Tennessee and 3 days drive to work each week, 10 miles each way, car gets 28 Mpg. I see that this category is up at least 40 %.
look at the energy section of your table --I only dispute the Natural gas rise and also the mix that they used of an energy budget to come up with a lower figure. Based on my energy mix I will stick with my figure.

New vehicles--I am leasing a 2021 mid-size car for 7.5% of my monthly income. I am guessing that this would now be 10 % more expensive.

I do have a low low VA loan at 2.25 % that accounts for 43 % of my monthly expense for mortgage taxes, insurance and Homeowners fee. This would now cost me 10 % more to obtain a loan today.

I have now accounted for most of my income--the rest is misc repair booze, wardrobe etc which I will assume is also 10% more expensive.
Therefore we have the weighted average of :

.43(10) +.3(30) +.075(10)+ .13(40)+ .065(10) =20.15% inflation compared to one year ago.

I believe that this is an accurate assessment. I think that I am not an atypical middle class householder. My annual income from all sources is equal to the average American family income of around $60,000. Food and energy are the biggest threats to our dollar and our way of life.

To add to the discussion. I have not addressed in my estimates the rise in housing costs for buying homes here in my home county.

Here in Brentwood TN my home has appreciated 2.7 % in the last month. Just 4 years ago I paid $515,000 now Zillow shows it at $901,000. This not necessarily due to the current actions by the Administration -per se-It is largely the result of people bailing out of High Crime, High Tax cities and states.

So you see, best beloveds, that true inflation can be withering indeed especially for those who had little excess income to begin with.

The inflation is not a local problem it is world wide and is caused by the supply chain disruptions caused by covid. No person or policy can fix it as long as covid is in control.

Well, in order of importance

1
2
3
4

I will try to answer. Number1 is energy--It is the engine that drives essentially most of the monthly budget. It is built into the cost of food , farming, manufacturing, transportation, aviation, and so on. Winter weather will stretch my budget due to the cost increase in Natural gas.

Number 2 is the cost of food. This is where inflation comes home to those who have modest incomes. I have quit buying bacon, steak, broccoli, fresh fish etc and other items that have almost doubled in price.

Number 3 is housing--Not necessarily due to the current Administration's policies per se--Crime and Tax ridden states cause the big cities to empty out and drive up housing costs in states with no income tax and modest property rates. In my community this would affect only the wealthy new home buyers--I have seen my own property increase from $524,000 to a reputed $920,000 in exactly 4.2 years.

So to sum it up I am most concerned about the increase in energy costs. I guess I shouldn't be worried since Joe has decreed that it is "Transitory"--well that has become a dirty word in my lexicon. But I am assured that throwing another 5 trillion dollars into the economy on worthless government programs will fight inflation. Oh how easily the lies and half truths roll off the tongue. Reality, history, economics, common sense and accounting be damned.

Well I have heard it from Joe Biden, Jen Psaki,
various other advisors and chairman of the Fed and countless synchophants in the news media.

I deem it to be a Narrative of the recent Left Wing news cycle. Some opinions there in may be changing as I post.

For starters most people know that it takes around 2yrs for a new government's policies to take effect and some of you here applauded Donny while he was still riding on Obama's policies 2.5yrs later until things started turning bad on him just before COVID hit which made things even worse and now you want to blame Joe for what COVID and Donny has done?

Hypocrites is 1 word that comes to mind 3 others are Alzheimer's, Dementia and Senility.
