Thanks for those.

For a real world example for here in the UK, we have sharply in progress:

Covid: Bolton lockdown 'not ruled out'...
wrote:
A local lockdown in Bolton has not been ruled out to help protect people from the spread of the Indian coronavirus variant...

... the "vast majority" of people in the town who are in hospital with the new variant had not taken up the offer of a vaccine...

... "We've put in a huge amount of testing. We've reinforced that with army personnel as well, and we're expanding the vaccination programme - especially for those second jabs which are the best protection against ending up in hospital."...

... Bolton in Greater Manchester has seen a sharp spike in infections since mid-April, Public Health England said. In the town, the B.1.617.2 variant now makes up the majority of new coronavirus cases. Leader of Bolton Council David Greenhalgh urged people to get the vaccine...

Covid: More than 6,000 vaccinated in Bolton...
wrote:
More than 6,200 people were vaccinated in Bolton at the weekend amid concerns over the Indian Covid-19 variant...

... Prior to the push, about 10,000 people in the highest priority groups were yet to be vaccinated. Dr Helen Wall, who is leading the town's vaccine rollout, said it had been "emotional" to see. She said many who had been eligible for some time came for a jab over the last two days...

... Blackburn with Darwen's public health director said everyone over-18 should book a Covid vaccination in the area...

Very good to see a good and hopeful turn-around.

Stay safe folks!

A really good example of thinking outside the box. It really only could happen in a place like Las Vegas - well done everyone who set it up, administered the injections, and had the injections :-)

At the end of the last reporting period the world's total case tally had passed 167,978,400 while passing 3,486,900. :-(

Yesterday India set a new official daily death record of 4,455 while their total officially passed 300,000. :-O

Now at the top end of the death list the changes there have been Pakistan displacing Ecuador from 26th place and Indonesia slipped past the Ukraine to take over 17th.

On the case list Taiwan took another long distance flight that took them from 179th place up to 170th, Vietnam leapt over Chad, Saint Lucia, San Marino and Niger to land in 165th while Timor-Leste passed Niger to claim 164th, the Seychelles became the 156th member of the 10K+ club and took 155th spot from South Sudan as Suriname nudged Belize out of 145th, Trinidad/Tobago flew over Eswatini, French Polynesia, Mauritania and Mayotte to claim 130th and French Guiana became the 129th country to pass 23,000 cases while moving past Guinea into 128th.

Cambodia jumped over Syria and Gabon to claim 124th spot, Mongolia passed Botswana to retake 108th as the Maldives dived past both Botswana and Namibia into 106th, El Salvador took 100th from Cyprus while Thailand took a short flight over Norway, Algeria, Estonia and Latvia to land in 87th, Cuba jumped over Latvia and Albania claiming 85th and Sri Lanka hopped past North Macedonia and Nigeria into 80th.

Bahrain took 74th place from Qatar, Venezuela swept Armenia from 72nd while Egypt jumped over Slovenia and Moldova to take over 67th, Uruguay overtook Moldova and Ireland to claim 65th as Kuwait became the 60th member of the 300K+ club, Palestine (58th) now has a new COVID center open after Israel blew up the old 1 and is reporting numbers again, Paraguay kicked Azerbaijan out of 56th and Kazakhstan replaced Panama in 50th.

Greece removed Slovakia from 47th spot as Ecuador replaced Bulgaria in 45th while Malaysia became the 42nd country to join the 500K+ club and then passed Morocco, but Nepal followed them into that clubhouse before passing them to claim 41st and Japan swept Serbia from 35th.

Meanwhile here down under Victoria has just registered 5 new local transmissions which are attached to the case where a man became infected while leaving quarantine in South Australia before returning home and the Victorian case tracing team made the big mistake of listing a supermarket in Epping as a hot spot instead of the actual supermarket in Epping North that he visited so goodness knows how that will go after a week of running wild so some interstate travel and quarantine restrictions are now back in place. :-(

Well Taiwan has moved up to another 4 spots to 166th spot on the case list and is starting to ride Vietnam's wake while India whose current COVID restrictions have halved their daily case count are now talking about relaxing those restrictions on Monday. :-O

Meanwhile here down under south of the border Victoria's latest local cluster case count is now at 9 with 1 of those attending a footy match at the M.C.G.. :-(

Snap lockdown fears for Melbourne after COVID case visits MCG.

[edit] News just in is that that outbreak has spread outside of Melbourne now. :-O

Bendigo on alert after Covid-19 exposure at venue.

At least testing sites down there are current;y being swamped. [/edit]

But there is a bit more good news in the COVID battle coming from another Queensland research team which is already being tested over in Europe.

At least one of the vaccine lotteries has people automatically enrolled. When I first heard of the lotteries, I suspected (and annoyed by the possibility) it would only apply to those that were hesitant and need to be enticed by a lottery to dive in, but apparently I was wrong.

Just been reading about the early days of the COVID pandemic sweeping though our care homes for the elderly here in the UK.

Of those whom became infected, about one third of that group of people died.

Very sad odds.

The last reporting period saw the world's total case tally pass 170.1 million while deaths passed 3,537,100. :-(

Changes in the death list are Bulgaria replaced the Netherlands in 29th place while the Philippines took 27th from Ecuador as Romania removed Czechia 20th and the Ukraine passed Indonesia to claim 17th spot. Australia has slipped another couple of spots down to 105th.

Now for the changes in the case list.

Vietnam passed Gambia and Timor-Leste passed Gambia and Iceland, but Taiwan flew past them all as well as Yemen and the C.A.R. to land in 160th so Vietnam remains in 165th and Timor-Leste graduated to 163rd, as the Seychelles moved past Lesotho and Aruba into 153rd, the Bahamas and Congo slipped past Djibouti into 150th and 151st respectively while Suriname took flight to move up to 139th from 145th, Cambodia replaced Rwanda in 123rd and Cabo Verde took 121st from Australia.

Mongolia slipped past Namibia into 107th spot, Afghanistan swept Luxembourg from 103rd while Zambia replaced Ghana in 95th, Uzbekistan nudged Montenegro out of 93rd as Latvia overtook Albania to claim 87th, Cuba passed South Korea, but still remains in 85th spot as Thailand powered past them all and Myanmar to take over 83rd and Sri Lanka passed Kenya to claim 79th.

Bahrain jumped over Armenia and Venezuela into 72nd, Uruguay leapt past Ethiopia, Lithuania and Denmark to land in 62nd as Costa Rica took 58th from Palestine, Tunisia passed Georgia before Paraguay passed them both to claim 54th while Bolivia shoved Croatia out of 52nd, Belarus powered past Slovakia into 48th and Malaysia didn't like Nepal passing them so they fought back past them into 40th after both passed Lebanon.

Iran removed Poland from 13th place while Argentina leapt past both Spain and Germany to reclaim 9th spot back as India moves through the 27m+ clubhouse and the U.S. had the grand opening of their newly constructed 34m+ case clubhouse.

Meanwhile the cluster down in Victoria has now grown to 35 as their lockdown continues.

Well that's it for this update.

Meanwhile, here in the UK, we are on the up again...

The assessment for the "R" number is now standing at about 1.1...

And we've seen a doubling of daily cases as compared to last week.

People have relaxed and we're on the up. Have we vaccinated enough people?...

Major Grocer I use has 'Allowed' 'customers' to 'Remove' da Masks. Employees Not.

I wore mine till I got to the 'Baskets' Area, and asked a Maskless One wat da? He said Yep and I pulled mine down. I was 'tipped' off Outside with instead of seeing Everyone with a Mask - some Maskless.

However, Inside Store most customers were wearing Masks. 'bout 25 percent were 'Liberated' and FREE of 'Breath Reducers'.

I don't know when it became 'New' Policy. I don't watch local news nor pay attention to 'General' News'.

So. da Ugliest Human in History -aka ME- Gots to Gross 'em Out. YeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeDawgEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Yep

Well here down under it looks like Victoria could be in for a longer lockdown as their cluster has now grown to 45 cases over the weekend and over 250 hotspot venues have now being listed. :-(

Victoria records five more coronavirus cases as lockdown continues.

I just hope that they can keep this outbreak within their borders.

Sadly, firstly COVID, then black fungus, and now white fungus:

'White fungus': Drug-resistant fungal infections pose threat to India patients
wrote:
... Why are these infections happening?

At least 5% [1 person out of 20] of Covid-19 patients become critically ill and require intensive-care treatment, sometimes for a long period.

Experts say that those who are put on mechanical ventilation are always at greater risk of developing bacterial or fungal infections...

Is that what the mythical "herd immunity" looks like?...

Rather than suffer widespread "herd immunity" 'culling'... Here's hoping we win the race with vaccinations for everyone!

Vaccination really does work to save lives:

Today I got the second pfizer vaccine shot even though I got pretty sick after the first one. So far so good. I actually felt that 80% protection was good enough to get me through but I've been looking for a job and potential employers are looking for those who have been vaccinated.
