After spending 4 nights recovering from their hectic pace in the 24m+ case clubhouse India got started on cleaning out almost 4 months of cobwebs and dust from the 25m+ case clubhouse today while they've just recorded a daily death count that has put them into 2nd place there and the U.S. yesterday had the grand opening of their 600,000+ death clubhouse. Bahrain was the 77th member of the 200K+ case club while Thailand became the 92nd member of the 100K+ case club. Vietnam seems to have taken being passed by Timor-Leste as an affront as they're now trying to run them down, currently Timor-Leste has made it up to 168th place with Vietnam now right behind them in 169th as both power on through the 4K+ case clubhouse. Meanwhile down in Sydney there's still been no sign of their "missing link" so restrictions down there have now been eased again, but there is some promising news from just over our northern border. Qld based team develop antiviral treatment that could reduce virus by 99.99 per cent. A team of Queensland scientists has co-developed a “gene-silencing” antiviral treatment that could effectively kill COVID-19, in what’s been dubbed an “important missing piece” in the arsenal against the virus. |

I just spotted that France is planning on opening up bars etc. With their daily case rates at about 10 times that of the UK (20k vs. 2k per day), and similar population size (65 millionish), I can't see that going too well for the shape of their curve, but let's hope I'm wrong Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Did you also notice that India claimed the title of the most daily deaths recorded from the U.S.? :-O |

Did you also notice that India claimed the title of the most daily deaths recorded from the U.S.? :-O Sadly, yes. But given the population of India is three or four times that of the USA it's a sad indictment of the USA :-( Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Did you also notice that India claimed the title of the most daily deaths recorded from the U.S.? :-O Is it a sad indictment of the USA, or an indication that the Indian counts are far below the expected level. The per capita number of deaths in the US and a lot of countries, including most of Europe, is somewhere between one and two thousand per million. And where the spread in part can be because each country uses different criteria to judge whether a death is covid related. The U.S.A is not at the top of that list, but it could be higher or lower if a Federal standard were used, because each State has its own definition The Indian per capita number is only about 200 per million, probably about a tenth of the expected number. If the Indian numbers are correct then India shouldn't be the focus of attention as other countries have higher weekly trends, mainly in South America. Weekly trends can be seen at the worldometers covid site. |

By the end of the last reporting period the world's total case tally had passed 165.5 million while deaths passed 3,431,100. :-( The changes at the top end of the death list sees Egypt bumping Sweden from 33rd place while Ukraine bumped Indonesia out of 17th and Argentina booted Poland from 13th so it's now onto the case list changes. Well Taiwan has been on a long distance flight as they moved from 191st spot up to 180th as they quickly approach New Zealand while racing Liechtenstein (178th) to be next to enter the 3K+ clubhouse, Vietnam (169th) has had a bit of a stumble in chasing down Timor-Leste who has now passed Saint Lucia and Chad to take over 166th as P.N.G. slipped past Mali into 138th, Trinidad/Tobago replaced Guadeloupe in 134th, Cambodia passed Guinea and became the 127th member of the 23K+ club while Australia looks to hold onto 121st a bit longer and join the 30K+ club before Cabo Verde comes along, Angola jumped over both Malta and the D.R.C. to claim 118th and the Maldives dived past both the Ivory Coast as well as Jamaica into 109th. Mongolia became the 108th member of the 50K+ club, Cyprus and El Salvador are battling it out over 100th place as Finland become the 98th country to enter the 90K+ clubhouse and now has China within its sights, Thailand deposed of Kyrgyzstan to take 91st as well as becoming the 92nd member of the 100K+ club while Cuba jumped over Algeria and Estonia to land in 87th, S. Korea knocked Albania from 84th and Sri Lanka plucked Myanmar out of 82nd. Kenya bumped Nigeria out of 79th, Bahrain displaced Bosnia/Herzegovina in 76th while Uruguay powered past Guatemala and Egypt to take over 68th spot, Denmark and Lithuania both overtook Ethiopia to claim 62nd & 63rd respectively as Japan swept Switzerland out of 36th and Germany has retaken 9th spot after passing Spain. Anyhow that's enough for this update. |

By the end of the last reporting period the world's total case tally had passed 165.5 million while deaths passed 3,431,100. :-( I was rather hoping that Taiwan had the pandemic subdued. Hopefully their jump in cases is not a case of complacency creeping in...? Meanwhile over in the UK, we've seen the case numbers here beautifully creep down to below the 2000/day mark, until that is we have now eased the main parts of the lockdown restrictions and it looks like the case numbers were already creeping back upwards in anticipation... Here's hoping we win the race to get everyone vaccinated in time! Stay safe folks! No surprise there. If one can lie about the election being stolen, there should be no problems to lie about being vaccinated. Is Great Replacement "Theory" going to be a topic allowed, here? Besides, posters that can't be named can't link it to vaccines, give the demographics of vaccine hesitancy. Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes. |

India has now reopened 26m+ case clubhouse while it looks like that Russia will joining the 5m+ case clubhouse before France leaves now that France has upgraded their info system and found that they had over calculated their case total by 364,261 which have now been removed. The U.K. also did the same as France, but only 180 cases have been removed from their total. Taiwan flew right past New Zealand (now 180th) and is fast approaching tiny little Liechtenstein and membership to the 3K+ case club. Timor-Leste became the 166th member of the 5K+ case club while removing San Marino from 165th. Equatorial Guinea also became the 158th member of the 8K+ case club and replacing Benin in 157th spot. P.N.G. is now enjoying farewell drinks in the 14K+ case club after displacing Somalia from 137th. Cambodia passed Reunion to take over 126th with Syria now within its sights. Meanwhile Australia looks to become the 121st member of the 30K+ case club with just 3 more cases now required to get there. The Maldives have become the 109th member of the 50K+ case club while also passing Mongolia to claim 108th. Finland became the 98th member of the 90K+ case club and squeezed past China to reclaim 97th spot. Slovenia had to give up 67th place to Uruguay as Costa Rica replaced Kuwait in 59th while Tunisia took 55th from Azerbaijan and Hungary became the 32nd country to enter the 800K+ clubhouse. |

Interesting that the particular baseless, harmful and reprehensible topic goes un-named in the response. With that, please leave the medical stuff for the medics! What does that even mean? Are you implying I'm trying to pretend to be a health professional? If so, where are you getting that from? I am clearly discussing statistics, thank you very much. India has now reopened 26m+ case... Sadly yet further, India has another opportunistic pandemic forming to add to the desperation: Black fungus: Call to declare epidemic in Indian states wrote: India's states should declare an epidemic following a rise in deadly "black fungus" cases, the country's health authorities has said. Covid-19: What went wrong in Singapore and Taiwan? wrote: They've been hailed as virus success stories - places that have seen virtually zero or single-digit Covid cases since the start of the year. But this month, Singapore and Taiwan have both seen a sudden and aggressive rise in cases... Yes I mentioned India's problem with Mucormycosis back here. ;-) Meanwhile here down under we've become the 121st country to join the 30K+ club. :-( |
