Almost certainly - or at least judging by the actions of some around here :-(

Pollyanna

Or more likely some/all of:

  • Ostrich (head-in-sand) Syndrome
  • SEP effect
  • or just the selfish short term 'convenience' of Selective Ignorance...

Easier to try herding cats?...

And COVIDIOTS that hold parties while waiting for test results. :-(

House party held by new Queensland COVID case.

A 26-year-old man who has coronavirus defied orders from Queensland Heath to isolate while he was waiting his COVID test result and held a house party instead.

It’s thought 25 people attended the party held by the Strathpine man, all of who now have to isolate.

Queensland recorded one new case of COVID-19 on Saturday. The case is a close contact of the 26-year-old man who tested positive on Thursday.

He is said to have visited a large number of locations in Brisbane while potentially infectious.

Machiavellian, mischievous, or spiteful, or what?!

Hopefully there will be some appropriately stifling penalty to bring home some sanity?

As noted from another thread:

Even when fully vaccinated, you really do still need to use a mask and still frequently sanitize your hands and still avoid any contact with your face, [always, and especially] whenever near anyone or when in any enclosed space with others. Anything less is still a danger to yourself and everyone else around you.

Being vaccinated does not mean that you suddenly become invulnerable and invincible and sanitized.

Vaccination greatly does help and will hopefully give you a good fighting chance to avoid needing hospital treatment if you do get infected...

Keep with [using] a mask and [keep with] good sense and keep with continued awareness against the continued COVID spreaders.

We have a very deadly pandemic still spreading.

By the end of the last reporting period the world's total case tally had gone well past 128.7 million while passing 2,815,000 deaths. :-(

In the top 30 of the death list Pakistan took 29th place from Iraq while Chile jumped over both Belgium and Canada to claim 22nd and now onto the place changes in the case list.

Jamaica nudged Senegal out of 109th place, Montenegro claimed 90th after jumping over both China and Ghana as Uruguay shoved Latvia out of 86th, Bahrain took 78th from Myanmar while Venezuela displaced Libya from 75th, Bosnia/Herzegovina blew Nigeria out of 73rd and Ethiopia heaved Egypt from 67th spot.

Kuwait retook 60th place from Denmark as the continue to duke it out, Greece jumped over the Dominican Republic and Azerbaijan to land in 53rd while Bangladesh and Jordan shoved past Switzerland to take up 33rd and 34th spots respectively, Iraq blew Israel out of 26th as Poland blasted Mexico from 13th, Turkey replaced Spain in 8th and France claimed 4th spot from Russia.

Well that's it for today's update on the state of things.

They've left out, but Reuters say,

PEI said it had registered 31 cases of CSVT, which resulted in nine deaths, out of some 2.7 million people who have received the AstraZeneca vaccine. With the exception of two cases, all reports involved women aged between 20 and 63.
I think that does put it into the "unusual and worth investigating" class. This report isn't in the usual run-of-the-mill category for either covid or real life.

On has to ask why has Germany had so many cases, in per capita numbers:
Germany is at 1.15/100,000 Almost all the cases are reportedly in younger and middle-aged women.
Canada is at 0.0/100,000
and the UK is at 0.045/100,000 all men (Daily Mail)

And why the sex difference?

Follow up, AstraZeneca: Is there a blood clot risk?
UK has been working down the age range, over 60's have been vaccinated, the 50 - 59 age group is the group now being jabbed.
Germany initially refused to use the vaccine in the over 65s because of a lack of trial data. However, CVSTs are inherently more common in younger women and taking the pill increases the risk.

Unfortunately deadly, but sadly no surprise:

Covid-19: Few people with symptoms are self-isolating, study finds
wrote:
Fewer than one in five people request a Covid-19 test if they have symptoms, while the number who follow full self-isolation rules is low, a large study of the test-and-trace system has found.

The report, published in the British Medical Journal, also found only half of people knew the main Covid symptoms [which] include a cough, high temperature and loss of taste or smell.

Experts said the findings suggested the impact of the £37bn NHS Test and Trace system was "limited"...

Can that phenomenal £37,000 MILLION have far better effect in much more useful ways to save lives and avoid misery?

And far more usefully used than feeding greedy profits?...

More follow up

Seven people have died from unusual blood clots after getting the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine in the UK, the medicines regulator has confirmed to the BBC.
At least, seven have been acknowledged so far.

Is there any more CVST deaths in women below the age of menopause who are taking contraceptive pills than normal?

Seven out of how many 10's of millions?

What's the normal rate of such deaths in the general population?...

For such small numbers, very sad though they are, is there any significance?

Especially so considering the very badly increased risk of blood clots from suffering COVID out in the wild?...

About 18 million.

It's a tiny proportion, but it's worth looking into. As the age range of the people receiving the vaccine reduces, it might become more significant. Remember thalidomide?

Sadly we have a continuing pandemic:

Covid pandemic peaks in Eastern Europe ruins Easter

Eastern Europe largely escaped the worst of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, but the picture has changed dramatically with several countries [now] experiencing record infections and deaths...

... Lea has scrawled her grandfather's name by one of the 25,000 white crosses that have appeared on Prague's Old Town Square. Devoid of tourists, the square is now an impromptu memorial to the dead...

Yet we have 'beauty' tourists selfishly and indignantly ignoring reality:

And whilst the infection rate rises for Ukraine and falls for Russia, there is an opportunistic push forming for Putin to yet further expand his empire:

Deadly games?

Brief science news snippet:

For most years for the USA, the annual death rate meanders around and changes by no more than 2% between years.

Last year saw a 23% increase.

After a disruptive weekend where many places couldn't be bothered sending their numbers in it's now time for another update on the situation.

By the end of the last reporting period the world's total case tally had passed 133 million while deaths passed 2,885,400. :-(

There were a few changes in the top end of the death list with the Philippines passing Sweden before Bulgaria passed them both to claim 31st spot while Ecuador took 26th from Portugal, Belgium nudged Canada from 23rd as Poland displaced South Africa from 14th before Peru came along to push them out of 15th and Russia became the 7th country to record over 100,000 deaths.

Now for the position changes in the case list.

Thailand took 114th place from Australia, Jamaica and Botswana both passed Uganda to claim 107th and 108th respectively while Cameroon nudged Afghanistan from 102nd, Cuba claimed 96th from Finland as Uruguay flew over South Korea, Estonia and Algeria to land in 83rd, Oman jumped over Nigeria and Libya to take over 75th, but not before Venezuela knocked Nigeria from 74th, and Armenia removed Guatemala from 69th spot.

Paraguay flew past Costa Rica, Slovenia and Lithuania to land in 63rd spot, Moldova took 61st from Denmark as Kuwait kicked Ireland from 59th, Tunisia, Kazakhstan and Palestine all passed the Dominican Republic to take up 55th, 56th and 57th places respectively while Greece blew past Croatia before both passed Bolivia and Nepal to claim 50th and 51st, Bulgaria jumped over Malaysia and Panama to take 44th and Serbia took 35th from Switzerland.

Meanwhile Sweden will not give up the fight passing both Portugal and Israel to claim 27th place while Chile became the 22nd country to join the 1 million + club quickly followed by Canada as Peru and Czechia passed South Africa to claim 17th and 18th spots and Poland took 12th from Argentina. Other than that India has finally broken the 100,000 daily case count twice now and Brazil became the 2nd country to pass 13 million, but what can 1 say about the U.S. as they pass 31.5 million cases along with over 570,000?

Anyhow that will do for today's update.
