I can't believe he cycled all the way. Even with reduced traffic, that is one hell of a ride, especially with both Hyde & Regents parks being much nearer.
I suppose he needed to lose weight. :-)

With this level of flaunting the rules it should not be long before all higher league football is banned in the UK.

Travel for exercise is allowed "a short distance within your area" to access an open space.
Using that guideline, Battersea, Hyde & Regents parks are much closer to Downing Street that the Olympic Park.
So yes, he did break the rules

No wonder it's running rampant in the U.S.
Two members of Congress have tested positive for coronavirus after the pro-Trump siege on the Capitol last week.

Bonnie Watson Coleman, 75, and Pramila Jayapal, 55, both Democrats, tested positive after being forced to lockdown in a small room with many others as pro-Trump supporters broke into the building.
Some of their Republican colleagues refused to wear masks when sheltering, Jayapal said, calling such behaviour “selfish idiocy”.

"Only hours after President Trump incited a deadly assault on our Capitol, our country, and our democracy, many Republicans still refused to take the bare minimum Covid-19 precaution and simply wear a damn mask in a crowded room during a pandemic - creating a superspreader event on top of a domestic terrorist attack," she said in a statement.
She also linked to a video of Delaware Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester pleading with a group of Republicans to put on the masks she was offering them during the riot, as they refuse.

“I’m not trying to get political here,” a Republican Representative from Oklahoma, Markwayne Mullin, says in the clip as he appears to turn down the offer.

The last reporting period saw the world's total case tally pass 91,988,800 along with over 1,968,600 deaths. :-(

Place changes in the case race were Zambia took 100th from Australia while Namibia also passed Australia, but remain in 101st, Norway took 89th from Ghana, Paraguay removed Venezuela from 74th as Myanmar nudged Oman out of 70th, Ireland leapt over Moldova, Egypt and Kuwait to land in 60th, Tunisia leapt over Lithuania, Armenia and Kazakhstan to claim 56th and Slovakia passed Bulgaria to take over 50th spot.

Lebanon flew over Belarus, Croatia, Ecuador and Azerbaijan to land in 45th place as Portugal kicked the Philippines out of 31st, Israel jumped over Pakistan and Sweden (who also passed Pakistan) to claim 28th, but Sweden could fight back as they don't like getting passed, while Canada blasted Belgium out of 23rd and Indonesia again passed Czechia to reclaim 20th in their little personal tussle.

Anyhow that's it for today's update in the great COVID race.

For the UK, it is looking like our cases peaked with an extra Christmas spike to about 60000 new cases a day for around the New Year, with an additional mini-spike a week later from the New Year celebrations.

Since then as a result of the increased people restrictions that started the New Year, we are now seeing those numbers start to fall.

However, that is only for the new cases...

We are yet to see the spikes in how many of those people suffer further to then die.

And our hospitals are full and the entire health service is exhausted from nearly a year of working at breaking point rates.

At least now we have some meaningful messaging and news examples to wake people up to keeping themselves and others around them safer.

"Get yer masks on, and get them on properly, including completely over your nose!"

Stay safe folks,

Don't seem to be working as it should unfortunately. Still too many (here at least) think it's a joke.

After Tesco's announced that they will be refusing entry into their shops for those not wearing masks.
Put it to the test & got told to remove it (no joke, it happened).
Banned

Yet this is acceptable?

What's the difference?

The difference is a big difference in filtering effect and intent.

Your banned example has a very good reputation for being used for hold-ups and to hide criminals.

The not-banned example that is to be encouraged has the intent to avoid killing people...

LMAO.
According to the CDC, a cloth face covering is recommended to prevent transmission of the virus
Nice filtering.
The main reason used for wearing a mask was to prevent an individual spreading the virus.
So this comment on this particular debate says it all.
The answer is a resounding yes. Either the people around you will understand that you’re attempting to minimise transmission risk and will keep their distance, or they’ll think you’re nuts and keep their distance. Either way, objective achieved.

The last reporting period saw the world set a new daily death count of at least 16,362 taking that grim total to at least 1,985,485 while total cases now exceed 92.7 million with another 700K+ day. :-(

Now to the latest shifts in the case race.

Nigeria took Algeria out of 78th place while Honduras knocked Ethiopia from 72nd, Malaysia took 68th from Slovenia as Greece squeezed past Qatar to claim 65th, Serbia removed Saudi Arabia from 36th and Portugal became the 31st country to pass 500,000 cases.

Well that's it for now.

Sadly, deadly:

Fake news 'causing UK South Asians to reject {vaccine} jab'
wrote:
Fake news is likely to be causing some people from the UK's South Asian communities to reject the Covid vaccine, a doctor has warned.

Dr Harpreet Sood, who is leading an NHS anti-disinformation drive, said it was "a big concern" and officials were working "to correct so much fake news".

He said language and cultural barriers played a part in the false information...

Yet another example of how 'Fake News' can kill...

Even worse than that, is "real" news is deadlier.
The statements from those in authority & scientists are not very helpful. How many deaths have "real" news caused to date?
A live report from 12:38 today with the "Breaking" header:
The Brazilian coronavirus variant detected in the UK is not the one causing government concern, a virus expert says.
Professor Wendy Barclay, G2P-UK lead and head of department of infectious disease and chairwoman in influenza virology at Imperial College London, has explained the difference.
"There are two different types of Brazilian variants and one of them has been detected [in the UK] and one of them has not," she says.
"The new Brazilian variant of concern, that was picked up in travellers going to Japan, has not been detected in the UK.
"Other variants that may have originated from Brazil have been previously found."
A ban on travel from South America to the UK is aimed at stopping the import of the new variant, which is thought to be better at attaching to human cells, and therefore more infectious.
Scientists are stating that to date, the new variants are covered by the vaccines.
If that is the case, WHY isn't there a massive push to distribute the vaccines?

The way this has been handled is nothing but a comedy of errors which is why many (sadly) are ignoring the facts.
Fake news is just exacerbating the problem not causing it.

... Scientists are stating that to date, the new variants are covered by the vaccines.

Indeed, yes... With the usual caveats for when that was reported and that is for what has been seen thus far.

So yes, from what I've personally read so far, the Coronavirus vaccines approved in the UK so far look to be very good and effective against all presently seen variants.

If that is the case, WHY isn't there a massive push to distribute the vaccines?

There is. Starting working through a priorities list of those most vulnerable and for those most exposed.

Agreed, however the Fake News is cruelly going to kill additional people.

Just 5? Unbelievable
Growing up & spending 25 years in just one borough, we had SEVEN hospitals with 1 becoming the largest general hospital in London.
Hackney Hospital.
Demolished with new build & renamed Homerton Hospital.
Eastern Hospital
Closed 1986 & now demolished.
St Leonards Hospital
Closed 1984 & now a health centre
Metropolitan Hospital
Closed 1977 & now a business centre & hostel.
German Hospital
Closed 1987 - A grade 2 listed building & now housing.
Mothers Hospital
Closed & now housing.
Queen Elizabeth Children's Hospital
Closed 1996 & stood vacant for nearly 2 decades. Now luxury apartments.

That was just one borough out of how many in London?
Ain't progress a b*tch.
