TRASH from EXPLODING Fireworks is ALL OVER da Street. I cleaned up what was near me. Most is still there closer to area of EXPLOSION. I never went out to watch and could see nothing from my windows. There are Many Trees in my Yard Blocking view. I wonder if Clean-Up crews are employed at Washington Monument and Thousands of Other Venues. Many Fireworks are Right Over Water and I'm guessing much sinks and Nothin' is done 'bout dat. da Worse Smoke came from a Car 4 times night of 3rd doing MASSIVELY LONG BURNOUTs. Smoke got into my house and I went outside and it seemed a HEAVY FOG a Hundred feet deep was Everywhere. STUNK like a mo fo. Gagged inside my house. Outside, well.................. I applaud persistency but not stupidity. Benn very popular for the past week... ...with scammers. 2 July - 01612811518 (Google threw up Manchester area code of 0161 - However further down it threw up Ludhiana, Punjab with a whole range of numbers 01612* Virgin Media, despatched him quickly. 2 July - 01202386953 - Bournemouth (very inconsistent chappie, called many times in the past). 5 July - 01202386953 - Bournemouth (decided to play him. Told him due to the frequency of scammers, arranged for VM to provide me with a password that VM has to state before proceeding any further. Sheer B/S of course - muppet hung up). 9 July - 01223762891 - Cambridge. Justin from VM so played him with the same B/S. He bit & provided a password, all numbers, incorrect one last attempt, said sorry & hung up. They don't seem to be taking the hint. :-( Stupidity really does know no bounds. 9 July - 01223762891 just 2 minutes ago. On answering, he spoke in Hindi, so I just laughed & hung up. |

For the 1st 45 minutes, wondered who were playing Italy. After 45 minutes it became obvious... ...same old, same old England. Better luck next time. As for next year's world cup, excuse already available for use... ...heatstroke. |

After years of being trolled, what beautiful sweet music! Not all lorry drivers sit behind the wheel of a long distance artic, with many driving the everyday recycling lorries.Big jump in pay But the Home Office said there are no plans to introduce the visas.Visa options under discussion WHY? The government said no plans for that so why discuss? In the meantime, want to pop to the shop for your beer? "Sorry no deliveries today. Try tomorrow" |

I wonder who the bright spark was that thought that this idea could ever work. A US man decided to fix the “leaning” cement stairs on the home he recently bought, he had no idea what he would find inside. Cheers. |

God help future generations Why would you not get your bills through the post? I like to have a hardcopy as reference for myself that I can easily access as/when needs be. I like to be in control of what and when I'm paying things and also so I can compare what previous rates were etc, to work out if I'm being fleeced or not. We're relying on technology FAR too much and one day it's all going to backfire And this is coming from a 33 year old.The quoted comment gets a BIG thumbs up from me. :-) |

God help future generations The quoted gets a big thumbs down from me, well into my seventies. They obviously don't know how to store electronic documents securely and with multiple copies in different locations, like one here and one copy at sons, 300 miles away, snyc'd once a week min. And 'the quoted' must have too much space wasted using filing cabinets to keep the 7 years of hard copies in, or they don't have a productive life if the documents can fit into a very limited space. |

This is a bit of an MA+ classified story so I'll stick it here instead of the cafe, but this does make 1 wonder what the hell some people are thinking at times. |

Ah, but the muppet B-liar took full credit for it. Irish famine message Sir John said while it was an "unexceptionable" statement it had a huge impact and was a useful thing to do.Yep, had it gone wrong, B-liar had a free get out of jail card: I neither wrote or approved it. |

I have been watching a relatively new series on NetFlix called "Explained" Each episode features a topic that is relative to most concerns in today's world. Pandemics, diamonds, sugar, meat, billionaires and etc. For instance the episode featuring diamonds relates how their value has been hyped up by a clever and ongoing ad campaign. Initially promoted in western countries, but now the hype has been spread to asian countries. Their value has been propped up by careful manipulation of supply and demand, initially through the efforts of the DeBeers organization but now with the collapse of the soviet union Russian corporations have entered the fray. Personally I never bought into the hype and only once purchased a 1/4 carot diamond in my wife's engagement ring. The episode about billionaires got me thinking. Since the fall of the soviet union and the marginal opening up of China almost as many of the world's uber rich are from those countries as are from the USA and western europe. So it seems logical to me that it is as much in their best interest to maintain the status quo and stability of the world as everyone else. Being uber rich isn't doing you any good if you are living in a bomb shelter. Sure, I would like to live at a higher standard of living, but as long as things stay stable and I have enough to eat and a decent place to sleep and enough toys to keep me occupied I won't rock the boat. So I'm no longer overly worried about there being a big global war. Too many people everywhere have too much to loose to let that war happen. I do worry about pandemics and famine and to a lesser degree natural disasters but I have a feeling my end of days will come long before the planet "Offs" itself. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |

Have to agree with that. Too many will have to much to lose. Covid is showing just how much is at stake. What I despaired about & even now is lazy journalism. In fact not 30 minutes ago I was in WTF mode. Reported in today's Metro (print version) "Last of the dambusters" Pretty certain that George "Johnny" Johnson was still alive. Searched BBC website, nada so Googled nada. However, "Johnny" is still alive & will be 100 on 21/11/21. The Metro's headline is doubly misleading. The report was about Lawrence "Benny" Goodman who died yesterday aged 100 (reported in the papers yesterday but not on BBC). Shame on them. Secondly, he was NOT part of the Dambusters as such but a wartime pilot in 617 squadron. 2nd bit of lazy reporting. Googled Lawrence. The Daily Mail headline got it right but its report was technically correct but not quite correct. The last surviving wartime member of the famous squadron is now 99-year-old Squadron Leader George Leonard 'Johnny' Johnson, who was an air gunner.Technically correct, he was an Air Gunner BUT not in 617 squadron where he was a Bomb Aimer who at the end of the war wanted to remain in the RAF on a permanent commission so retrained as a Navigator. I suppose there will be many who will scream "nit-picking" Edited to correct sentence. |

(reported in the papers yesterday but not on BBC). Shame on them. I have stopped using the BBC as a news site, these days they are usually the last to report on any serious news. I use it mainly now, when they do report, as a advert free, non-firewall site, for linking. |

Yes there is that. Watching the compositors work when at the London Evening News many years ago, it was amazing seeing them set up the type. Once each article was complete, it was checked by an overseer before being passed onto the next section. With all news sites both online & print, there have been too many lazy reporters which begs the question: Which is "real" news & which is fake? If the "real" news sites can't get their facts right... |

Apparently the European Court of Justice (ECJ) has ruled that he military within EU member states should be subjected to the Working Time Directive. In other words, soldiers aren’t, er, soldiers; they are employees, and so subject to “individual timekeeping, severe limitations on night work, rigid activity planning including prior agreement from each individual to any change, precise calculation of time off, mandatory 11-hour daily rest time,” and on and on. The Court was quick to respond that armies can derogate from working hours in deployment, special operations, or in cases of “insurmountable constraints”. |

Doubt very much that any current member was born pre 1945 Several born 1970+ Was surprised to see some Irish judges in that list (born in the 50's) & cannot understand their reasoning agreeing with that. Then again, they are lawyers & academics. |
