Your $'s not at work.

California gas utility fined $10M for ratepayer money misuse.

A major California gas utility must pay the state nearly $10 million and reimburse customers money it improperly spent on work related to the development of energy efficient building codes.

The penalties that Southern California Gas Company faces were handed down Thursday by the California Public Utilities Commission.

The commission, which regulates California's major utilities, in 2018 prohibited the utility from spending any ratepayer money on advocacy work related to building codes after it's internal watchdog found the utility fought standards designed to make homes and businesses more energy efficient.

Between June 2018 and January 2021, SoCalGas continued to send employees and consultants to participate in workshops, conference calls and meetings about the development of new state and federal building standards and also withheld key information from the commission, the ruling said.

The utility showed “profound, brazen disrespect for the commission's authority," the commission wrote in its ruling.....

....The $9.8 million fine is a result of the utility continuing to engage in that work by sending employees and consultants to participate in workshops, conference calls and meetings around the development of new state and federal building standards, the commission wrote in its Thursday decision.

The bulk of the fine is a $10,000 per day charge over 960 days, from June 1, 2018 to Jan. 15, 2021. The ruling also limits incentive payments to shareholders related to energy efficiency programs.

The amount of money the utility must return to ratepayers has not yet been calculated.

Due to a very long history of wars either along its borders or from invasions, Russia is paranoid and want a buffer zone of friendly countries on its borders.

You need to study European history since the time of the Vikings, Swedish history is a good place to start.

A television reporter was manhandled and dragged away by Chinese security live on air while covering the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics.

In an incident that compounded concerns about press freedom at the Games, Sjoerd den Daas was accosted by a black-clad official wearing a red armband during a broadcast outside Beijing’s Bird’s Nest stadium.

1st time of watching was on its release in 1973.
2nd time was after purchasing the set on DVD.
3rd time is now & just finished watching episode 1 on Blu-ray.
Before I started that episode (I watched one of the specials - Restoring the World at War).
The Project Manger for Freemantle stated that even he had a new perspective in viewing the final product.
He was right but watching the series again, still highlighted (for me anyway), how 1 man can wield so much power.

Well one only has to look to modern times to answer that question. We have 2 NYBB's telling people to do as they say rather than do as they do.

Wonder what the Duck will do to trump Bozo?
Bozo could have made it difficult for the Duck by singing Precious Wilson's "Only the Strong Survive"

Unbelievable.
One senior MP commented to me: "I despair, we want to run the country and we can't even manage the building we work in."

A politician speaking the truth.

Following the collapse of the 12-story Champlain Towers South condominium in Surfside, Florida.

An emerging deal would split $83M for condo collapse losses.

A tentative deal announced Friday would pay $83 million to people who suffered economic losses such as condominium units and personal property in the collapse of a Florida building that killed 98 people.

The emerging agreement, yet to be formally reduced to writing, would set aside whatever amount above the property settlement figure for those who lost loved ones in the collapse of the 12-story Champlain Towers South condominium in Surfside, Florida.

The proposal was unveiled at a hearing Friday before Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Michael Hanzman, who is presiding over lawsuits stemming from the June 24 collapse.

“That is promising news. We'll see how it plays out,” said Hanzman, who must approve a deal and said he would hear any objections before deciding. “There's a strong possibility we're going to avoid any drawn-out legal battle.”

A written agreement will be ready to file in court by next Thursday, said attorneys involved in the negotiations overseen by mediator Bruce Greer...

..Still, this tentative agreement would represent only part of the case. The lawsuit claiming damages for wrongful death will move forward, with potential collections including $120 million or more from the property sale and perhaps $30 million in estimated insurance proceeds...
But it wouldn't surprise me if that's cut down further.
