Many more like that out there.
The shortage problem goes way back even before the referendum.
Can't recall exactly when this particular event actually occurred but it's final effect was Sept 2014 when ALL HGV drivers lost their grandfather rights as the grace period for the dCPC ended (introduced 2010/11? - thanks EU).
Many drivers, especially those in their 50's said stuff this for a game of soldiers & left or retired early.
£300 to "justify" one's qualification to drive? Really? What the hell does a qualified license mean then?
Want a car license? Yep, that'll be £200 approx.
Want a HGV license? Yep, that'll be £2000 - £4000 please -thank you very much.
Since this driver shortage problem hit the mainstream, all the report mention fair pay.
It's not a problem of pay but one of hours & conditions.
Covid lockdown last year highlighted a despicable one at that - refused a delivery driver use of a toilet.
The best laugh of the century is today's news.
150 specialist military drivers will be put on standby.
What about the "other" 99,850 vacancies?

& there's more...
Government takes over running of Southeastern trains.
Serious Fraud looking into them.

Read a report several minutes ago & came close to needing a new keyboard. All right now, cleaned up the mess. :-)
"The man at the front wound down his window and asked me which petrol station I was going to," he said.
"When I said I wasn't, he asked me 'Why not?' and when I said I wasn't carrying petrol, he actually said 'You could have stopped and told us you weren't a petrol tanker.'
"I couldn't believe it... I just went full McEnroe and said 'You cannot be serious!'
(Self red-acted) bozos.

Pretty sure most truck drivers know the differences in tanker types.
However, saying that...

Well another right wing NSW state premier has fallen to the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption, but with a twist this time.

Gladys Berejiklian resigns the same day she was named country’s ‘most powerful person’.

I wonder what sort of imbecile that they'll throw in this time to fill that position (they have a lot to spare).

Ouch!
FEMA, National Flood Insurance Program "Risk Rating 2.0"

Next April, most current policyholders will see their premiums go up and continue to rise by 18 percent per year for the next 20 years.
Another 6 million homes in states such as Utah, Idaho, Vermont and Tennessee that didn’t require insurance because they were thought to be safe from flooding are actually at risk.
Plus about 2 million homes will require flood insurance if present climate change trends continue.

They would certainly have a very rude awakening into reality.
One has to ask how many miles had they driven off their routes before the tanker stopped at its delivery location? And did they really need fuel, or were they just being greedy twonks?

Nothing changes except the price. This from 1992:

I was explaining the cpc to my Dad a retired carpenter. He said "it cant be that bad" I replied "imagine you and your work mates being told which end of a hammer to hold". "Oh" was his reply.
The best explanation I've ever seen or heard since its introduction.

Wanna get rich?
Become a lawyer, marry another lawyer & enter politics.
They also show how ex-UK PM Tony Blair and his wife saved £312,000 in stamp duty when they bought a London office.
The couple bought an offshore firm that owned the building.
It is legal to acquire properties in the UK in this way and stamp duty does not have to be paid - but Mr Blair has previously been critical of tax loopholes.

It looks like we'll be getting another out of touch privileged northern suburbs person to be our next state premier, but how much of the right wing party will be left for him to rule will be another story.

NSW erupts in total political chaos with a flurry of resignations and multiple by-elections looming.

Coincidental?
Government authorities in at least eight countries have announced investigations into the financial activities of some of their most high-profile citizens and institutions following the Pandora Papers revelations.
Officials in Pakistan, Mexico, Spain, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Australia and Panama are promising inquiries while global watchdog groups demand action in the wake of stories revealing how billionaires, politicians and criminals exploit a shadow financial system that covers up tax dodging and money laundering.

Shame about our politicians...
They don't have any.
Must keep the back-handers coming
Taking the knee is just a diversion from the real issue.
As this particular issue shows, it's not about racism but money.
The fans are aware of human right issues but they don't really care.
Their club is "potentially" heading out of the doldrums after 14 years of an owner draining the business.
Fifa, Uefa & other football authorities much rather investigate racism & sexual allegations rather the a more dangerous issue.
Just look at the 2022 World Cup & Qatar.

Short term thinking & short term profits.
No problem, the next generation will sort it.
Well, guess what folks?
The next generation has arrived
And there's an immediate personnel problem, says Gary Hufbauer, Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics - the lack of skilled port workers, truck drivers and rail crew to move everything.
"Largely this reflects the Delta variant, but also retirement, particularly among truck drivers."
Experts point to logistics capacity problems at US ports, which were already present before the pandemic.
"This reflected years of inadequate investment. Port capacity does not deteriorate very quickly, but there was probably less than 5% margin of spare capacity," says Mr Hufbauer.

WTF?

Texas school administrator's Holocaust comments cause public outcry.

Some members of a North Texas community and Jewish groups are speaking out against a controversial new state law after a local school administrator told teachers that if they have books about the Holocaust in their classroom libraries, they should also include books that present "opposing" views.

"It's almost like a joke, what would an opposing view of the Holocaust be?" a teacher at Carroll Independent School District in Southlake, Texas, where the comment was made, told CNN's Ed Lavandera. The teacher did not want to be identified for fear of retribution.
On what plain of existence does the government of Texas reside?

If you 'Toughen' up on Knife 'Culture' or Gun 'Culture' you take Away Ability of Murderer to Kill One Person and One Person Only.

Make it Almost Impossible to do Above and Murderer will have to Use a Way; Device; Action which will Take MANY to Get The ONE.

A Needless and Horrific Outcome when Knife or Gun would of Done The ONE.

Nobody wants One Murder or a Mass Murdering.

But, Stop or Toughen and Get Much Worse.

Yep?

Yep

No wonder that West Virginia is stumping up $12K+ to get people to move there as they'll need those dollars to pay for their power bills if they're silly enough to move there (West Virginia is also the only state in the U.S. that has less people living in it now than back in the 1950's).

West Virginia's reliance on coal is getting more expensive, and Joe Manchin's constituents are footing the bill.
