Pubs run low on beer

Ironic, really, that it's the foreign brews (two of them European by name) that are singled out for mention. They won't be imported, however: they've been brewed under licence in the UK for ages.

But who was the Brexit flag-bearer for the pub trade? Why, Tim 'Wetherspoon' Martin himself, of course.

It isn't just a problem on your islet. My local pub has been told by his food supplier that the best they can do is once a month deliveries. If he has the space that could work for dry goods. It will not work for fresh food. So the local super is now going to have to stock restaurants in addition to your kitchen. They will quickly run into supply chain too.

BTW the food supplier begged him if he knew anyone with a license to apply, starting salary the same as the starting salary at JP Morgan for an investment banker!

Companies on our islet have started buying up any available stocks of small vans, which can be driven by anyone with a normal car licence. The key word being 'islet': distances, and quantities, are small enough to be amenable to that kind of workround.

And drinking in a pub which brews its own beers in a log cabin in the carpark helps too.

With the pubs here being presently closed it helps when a person has their own micro brewery at home. ;-)

I don't get it. Texas just passed an anti-abortion law that basically says that women can't get an abortion after 6 weeks, when many women don't even realize they are pregnant, and people can sue people for assisting someone in any way to get an abortion. They say that every life is important. On the other hand, an abortion affects the unborn fetus and immediate family, and the governor is trying to enforce a ban of mask and vaccine mandates because of personal freedom that could save the lives of countless people. This is extreme hypocrisy.

Edit: At the same time Texans are now allowed to carry guns in the open with no permit or training.

Passed out man found with 300 California recall ballots

TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) — California authorities are investigating why a man found passed out in a car had more than 300 unopened mail-in ballots for the gubernatorial recall election.

The man was arrested Aug. 16 after being found in a store parking lot in Torrance, police said.

Investigators with the Torrance police special investigations division, the U.S. Postal Service and Los Angeles County district attorney’s public integrity unit were trying to determine how the ballots ended up in the suspect’s vehicle and what his intent was in having them, police said in a Facebook statement Monday.

Sgt. Mark Ponegalek told KABC-TV that the ballots were unopened and had not been tampered with.

The man was a felon who had drugs, a loaded firearm, thousands of pieces of mail, a scale and multiple California driver licenses and credit cards in other people’s name, police said.

The man, whose name was not released, was arrested for investigation of weapons, narcotics and forgery violations.

Replacement ballots will be sent out, police said.
