I hereby vote to reject your vote rejecting my rejection of your rejection.

Message 2079943 - Posted: 13 Jul 2021, 23:11:20 UTC - in response to Message 2079917.

And I hereby vote to reject your rejection...

"CPU" is as commonplace an acronym that I consider it to have become adopted as a word in a similar way to such as we have for NASA or for going POSH...

One for Rob to adjudicate! :-)

I sustain your rejection of the rejection.

Thanks, accepted.

Cheers!

The wording of the rule is such that "Laser", which is an acronym is acceptable because it has become a word.
CPU however is not acceptable as it is not (yet?) a word, and has several very different meanings (as detailed by others).

One trick to consider when wanting to post an acronym is to choose one of the "implied" words. Taking "CPU" as the example we have "central", "processing", "unit", and a few more.

The name "Sea of Cortés" is the one preferred by most local residents. It was named in honor of Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés (or "Cortez") by Francisco de Ulloa in 1539. Ulloa originally believed that the gulf led to the mythical Strait of Anian, which connected the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean.

Should more than one hyphen be allowed. As in place names like;
Clayton-le-Dale,
Clayton-le-Moors,
Clayton-le-Dale.
To enable them to be distinguished from places like Clayton
All the above are in the county of Lancashire and so I assume it was done deliberately there for that reason.

Or others around the World. Clayton
