Is Liz trying out for gymnastics at the next Olympics with all these back flips? Liz Truss In 'Screeching U-Turn' As Government Imposes Windfall Tax On Green Energy Firms. Just in case she loses her spot? Truss says «the last thing the UK needs» is a new general election. |

Headline just in - Kwarteng sacked as chancellor after mini-budget backlash No easy link yet, but that's got to be one of the shortest "reigns" any UK Chancellor of the Exchequer has managed.... [edit to add] Barely had the ink dried on my post another treasury sacking: Chris Philp sacked from the Treasury - he was the Chief Secretary to the Treasury. More to follow as Truss (the PM is doing a press conference at 14:30 ...... Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Oh the pain and embarrassment of it all. UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt scraps nearly all government tax cut plans. |

That's got to be the shortest ever UK PMships. Holed below the waterline more or less from day -1, then a few more torpedoes came and along with a scuttling party and down she goes. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Update on my last post. Shortest by a country mile, the previous holder of this record on ignominy was George Canning who managed a stunning 119 days back in 1827. https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/british-prime-ministers-serving-the-shortest-time-in-office.html#:~:text=Shortest%20Times%20In%20Office%20Among%20Prime%20Ministers%20Of,%20225%20days%20%2025%20more%20rows%20 Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

We had a 69-day PM once but I don't recall him. I remember Kim Campbell in the 1980's(?) but she managed to hold out for 132. :^) |

WTF is wrong with this country? I gave it 20 years after the 2008 financial crisis. No chance now. |

Here just wondering if feeling a bit sad, also shame for the same, because I can not opt for both Boris Johnson and Liz Truss being Prime minister at the same time, and they both go in my favor, for being liked or preferred. That was my fear here at first, in that Liz Truss could be a little sharp for the meaning or opinion she could be having, but not showing up in the way she actually performed or behaved. Only let Politics decide for the matter it involves, but here feeling a little sad that she goes or a resignation for the same, because here she should have been carrying on or continuing. |

Let me try out this line of thought on y'all. Why is politics the only team game where a single player is expected to be an expert in every position and role? Here in the UK, we've started the search for a new Prime Minister. People are putting forward all sorts of names, for a whole host of different reasons. Prominent in the frame is one Boris Johnson, who - like Donald Trump - is a proven election winner. But both of them revealed serious character flaws in their execution of their ongoing duties in the post they'd been elected to. An election, after all, is simply an extended form of job interview. Behaviour and competence during the winner's term of office are more important than taking home the golden glitter ball on the morning after the TV show. Why don't we treat politics as a team sport? Every other sport has its specialisms. Forwards and backs, batters and bowlers, wingers and centers, runners and blockers, advertisers and executives. The next 'top dog' election isn't needed for over two years, in either the UK or the USA. The USA can't hold the big one until then: we could, but at the moment it would take an upheaval even greater than we've seen so far to trigger one. So why is 'election winner' so high up on the list of desired characteristics for the next chief executive? |

He's back. Former PM Boris Johnson returns to UK in bid for leadership after Liz Truss resigns as prime minister. What else could go wrong? |
