In the midst of a pandemic with people losing jobs, reduced income & numerous restrictions limiting their lives, we still get our intelligence insulted by those in power.

This just confirms what was said in the last 2 posts on the Trump thread - not just America.
The media is to blame for much of it
Who gave them the authority to decide "what is in the public interests"?
It seems the demise of the News of the World has not taught any lessons.

Another very British problem, especially in our public broadcast media, is the concept of 'balance' - interpreted as giving equal airtime to proponents and adversaries of any given proposition.

Having written about The Great Barrington Declaration in an adjacent thread, I turned on BBC News, to find Sunetra Gupta, of Oxford University (one of the co-authors of the declaration) being given equal 'expert' billing with the chief scientist of the World Health Organisation in, I think, a global Q&A broadcast. Majority vs minority views both deserve to be heard, but one voice from each side giving 'expert' answers isn't balance for me.

That will be debated for years but I don't think it will ever be disputed. However, there is much more than social media to be worried about.
Take this guy, a former investment analyst for Goldman Sachs & marries the daughter of a billionaire, no worries for him about his income then.
67% pay if forced to shut

Then we get the "big boys" moaning about political decisions being made that hits their wallets.
Wrong decision
"The Premier League's argument, which is EFL clubs are charging £10 so we should be charging more because we have more cameras, is also flawed," said Maguire.
"The cameras were already going to be there because the matches would have been shown on Match of the Day anyway, so the set-up costs would be minimal."
I think it is superb especially for climate change - all those coaches not on the road, footbal special trains not being run - all that electricity/diesel not being used.
What's not to like?
Then they can reduce the stadium sizes & hand over to developers for more profit. :-)
No worries about the loss of jobs/income for the "small fry" we have our profits.
Edited for errors.

Not for me either, just look at the mess "climate warming" has got into with the media's idea of balanced experts. They very rarely mentioned that for every 'expert'* on the 'it's natural not man made' side there are ten or more on the 'global warming is real' side.

* And frequently these experts were not climate scientists.

We live in the Holocene Epoch, of the Quaternary Period, in the Cenozoic Era of the Phanerozoic Eon.

The last ice age finished 12,000 years ago, the next ice age will begin in about 80,000 years. We are in what scientists call an interglacial period. i.e. the Earth naturally heats up and cools down. in cycles.

Yes THERE IS global warming going on, but mankind can't stop it. All we are doing is to bring the peak on quicker by our activities.

But if you want to dres up as 1960's hippies and go around saying we are all destroying the planet, go ahead.

Not usually regarded as a bunch of hippies:

I meant those that attend marches and demonstrations in the UK. Usually with a copy of the Guardian in their back pocket, green wellies, and a bottle of herbal tea, and vote for Farage.

NASA scientists are of course a different matter as we all know.

And don't forget Sun spot cycles, usually 11 years cycle, but some scientists say there are much longer cycles as well.

Good post, thanks.

Another good post, well done.

But as we all know scientists are scientists are scientists, they are only as famous as their last co-authored paper. I take everything they say with a pinch of salt (and snuff). The earth will warm up, full stop. finsh, end of. Mankind can slightly delay it or hasten it, it will happen regardless. So what is the point of all this gnashing of teeth?

Don't mention the industrial revolution and pollution.

Also don't mention that wind + solar + batteries are cheaper and vastly less polluting than the old fossil fuels and the fossil fuels companies hanging on to their old polluting profits.

If you can't believe the batteries bit: Just look up the game-changer of Elon Musk's big battery in Australia killing off dead the criminally stupidly profitable games of the fossil power stations there 'gaming' peak demand.

There are also multiple examples of batteries in use daily around the UK that avoid the need for expensive new power lines to be erected.

Climate change activists just want something to demonstrate about. They would demonstrate about having nothing to demonstrate about!!

And the corporate greedy old fossils just wish to burn us all to an early grave so that they can enjoy their greed now. No cares for any future!

I'm very much with the camp to not uncaringly recklessly destroy our only one planet.

(We have the climate threads for further thrashing of this one...)

The whole question has always been quite a murky one as to how this money was allocated.
True, but party politics is a much murkier one.

Precisely why the UK is building the Hinkley Point C nuclear Power station using a French company.

Add/ammend - Why were they using any foreign company when for many years we had a body of scientists and engineers who were at the very forefront of nuclear power generation technology?

Last week, Chancellor Rishi Sunak said that all workers needed to adapt to the changing environment.
He told ITV: "Can things happen in exactly the way they did? No. But everyone is having to find ways to adapt and adjust to the new reality."
No problem, their jobs & income is safe
We have to adapt & adjust while they continue with their drivel!

Update on a previous post on the thread.
"Project Big Picture" rejected so: European Premier League
Now not the "Big Six" but "Big Five", bet that will annoy the missing member.
2 statements in the report, 1 I agree with, the 2nd I found hilarious. I'll let you decide which one is which. :-)
Kevin Miles, chief executive of the Football Supporters' Association, said the idea of a European Super League shows that billionaire owners of clubs "are out of control".

Meanwhile Manchester's night time economy adviser Sacha Lord has started the process to launch a legal challenge of the government's decision to put the region into the top tier.
He tweeted: "Last night we started the judicial review into the legality of implementing emergency restrictions on Greater Manchester's hospitality sector, without scientific evidence."
Further evidence that science is overlooked by political posturing.
£100m can be given to "Brexit consultants", so to not allow Burnham a clear win, only provide £60m.

For the past couple of days have been enjoying videos on YouTube (thanks again Keith M).
Just finished watching one by Gamers Nexus on power supplies.
I've just realised that Nations are just like a computer system.
One can have the best

M/B
CPU
HDD
GPU
Ram
K/B
Mouse
Monitor
All these components provide the best performance.
Unfortunately, the overall system performance is lacking.

Politicians=inadequate power supplies.
Sadly that is the state of both the UK & U.S. today.

Probably moved partying to a more secluded location

A good question.

Will Boris Johnson survive June?

I'm surprised that he's lasted this long.

... I'm surprised that he's lasted this long.

All just part of the clever act and his carefree casual game of looking and acting like a friendly lovable Etonian buffoon.

Meanwhile, behind that mask and bozo-the-clown hairdo burns some fiendishly sharp politics...

The trouble is, that the only people who have the power to remove him, are exactly the people who owe him their jobs. Tory MPs.

Well, we've reached stage 1 and liftoff. 15% of Conservative MPs have officially notified the party they they have lost confidence in Boris Johnson as their leader.

There will be a vote tonight (Monday 6 June), between 17:00 and 19:00 UTC, and the result will be announced minutes after the poll closes. But it requires a 50% +1 outcome to remove him from office.

Two previous Conservative Prime Ministers have been down this route in recent years: Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May. Both won their 50% + 1 majority, so were not forced from office: but both resigned shortly afterwards.

Boris is sounding a lot like our ex-PM (just before he became an "ex") now.

Authority shaken, Boris Johnson pitches new plan for UK economy.

There always seems to be a new plan (especially when there wasn't 1 to start with).
