It's the economy stupid.
Is it?
That case it is King Donald's dislike for melanin.

'Anonymous' Trump administration critic identifies himself

"But my reasoning was straightforward, and I stand by it. Issuing my critiques without attribution forced the President to answer them directly on their merits or not at all, rather than creating distractions through petty insults and name-calling. I wanted the attention to be on the arguments themselves."
And the man himself falls right into the trap.

at a rally in Arizona, President Trump said: "This guy is a low-level lowlife that I don't know."
How many lies is that now?

So you can get this close and not be known, interesting.

Been spending a little time watching https://www.youtube.com/c/VirtualRailfan and of late there have been a lot of trains full of armored vehicles and tanks running all over the USA. I hope this isn't related to the upcoming election and some plot.

I remember doing that in 1968. Seeing lots of trains with tanks and other military vehicles. No idea why.

A couple of days later, in Red Square Moscow, we learned that the USSR had invaded Czechoslovakia (as it then was), and Dubcek had been deposed. The military trains had been on the opposite line as we travelled from Warsaw to Moscow.

Hawkeye speaks out
Alan Alda Speaks Out Against Donald Trump’s Willful Denial Of Science In The COVID-Era: “At This Moment, We Are All On Fifth Avenue”

“Trump once said he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue without consequences,” Alda continues in the Post piece. “At this moment, we are all on Fifth Avenue.”

His words carry weight, given the United States had by Thursday recorded nearly 9 million infections and over a quarter of a million deaths from the virus.

Alda, who is not just an an actor and writer but also a co-founder of the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University, is particularly offended by the president’s denial of science.

“Trump’s deceitful assurances that covid-19 (sic) is nothing to worry about have laid untold dead at the feet of this president,” Alda writes, before pointing out the scientific community’s unanimous opposition to one of the president’s most recent (supposed) lightbulb moments.

The concept of herd immunity, Alda maintains, “has been excoriated by the world’s leading infectious-disease experts. But the Trump administration seems willing to let a few hundred thousand people die and hope for the best.”

And for those who think he’s just another unelected, entitled celebrity criticizing the president, Alda claims an authority based on one of the measures most valued by Trump: ratings.

“Almost 63 million people voted for Donald Trump in 2016,” writes the actor, “but in 1983, more than 106 million people watched the last episode of M.A.S.H. So, it seems that by this president’s standard, I’m a bigger deal than he is.”

From the WaPo original piece.
So, I’m speaking now, and I hope you will, too. Someone you know who hasn’t thought it necessary to vote might decide to cast a ballot.

I hope they’ll vote for science. I hope they’ll vote for life.

Talked to a friend tonight who hangs out at Joint Base San Antonio. Says they have been moving stuff and troops around and in like crazy. Even hiring Russian contractors using Antonov AN-22 planes to move M1 tanks. Something is up. As has been said, can't have a coup without the military.

It will be interesting to see if the official explanation - when it eventually emerges - suffers from the same 'viewpoint distortion' as my 1968 Moscow experience.

It was a school trip. I was 16 at the time, and about 50 kids of around the same age went on what turned out to be a fascinating and educational expedition at the height of the cold war. Berlin (East and West), Warsaw, Moscow, Kiev, Yalta, Leningrad, Helsinki, Copenhagen. The Moscow memory is of our local guide - a student of the English language, but probably carefully vetted as well - bringing a copy of Pravda onto our tour bus, and reading it in translation over the tannoy. The loyal Czech citizenry had invited their Russian friends to enter their country and liberate them from the dastardly revisionists. The discussion rambled on, and he told us that, as a student, he was allowed to listen to Voice of America and the BBC World Service for linguistic purposes, but he didn't believe a word of them - they were just propagandist mouthpieces of their capitalist masters. Us Brits, of course, could see his point about VoA, but knew the BBC was utterly trustworthy...

That lesson has stuck with me ever since. Always listen critically, whoever the speaker. Double-source (at least) everything.

Sound advice. Unfortunately, there are times when it is pointless when dealing with an intransigent person.
Sadly, in this day & age, you don't have to go far to see that.

For a little light relief:

When "Ali G" Interviewed Donald Trump...

Sacha Baron Cohen Offers Up The Real Story Of What Happened When Ali G Interviewed Donald Trump

Sadly hilarious! Also sadly indicative of shallow prejudices...

And quite a contrast to Trump's "60-minutes" fiasco...

Unbelievable!

Tucker Carlson HUMILIATES himself as Hunter Biden “scandal” crumbles on air

Is that really for real??!

In my most humble personal opinion:

  • That looks and sounds like a pathetic schoolyard lie to try to cover up an earlier schoolyard lie to dig into looking even more childishly stupidly foolish.

  • It even sounds like a scam!!

  • And yet... That is 'prime time American news' ?!!

  • That sort of blatant fabrication/lies goes far beyond supposed 'fake news' into deliberate misrepresentation, defamation, and propaganda.

There must be laws against such harmful misleading silliness.

Have "Team Trump" really stooped so low to try to throw dirt that they are now just "making it up"?

Disgustingly totally untruthful Trump!

Stay safe!

Martin - that video was posted two days ago, and has already appeared in this thread (message 2060192).

More interestingly, my morning paper today had a printed piece where the shipping company self-identified themselves as UPS, and stated that the missing contents had been located - and would be returned (though it's not clear whether to New York or to Los Angeles).

Fox News's Tucker Carlson mocked for 'lost in mail' Biden documents claim

Watch for late-breaking news...

Google she say: Tucker Carlson: How UPS explained the missing Biden family documents, and a word about Hunter

Nothing about the contents of the documents, though.

Thanks for that. Didn't make the connection (bad puns included.)

And the story still stinks as a conspiratorial 'big tease' to nothing:

The Fox News host Tucker Carlson has been mocked for his attempt to explain why he could not produce documents he had promised relating to Joe Biden, implying some kind of conspiracy.

On Thursday United Parcel Service (UPS) confirmed that it had indeed lost, and then found, the package in question.

Carlson said the only copy of the papers, which he alleged added to claims about Biden’s son Hunter, had been lost...

Really, just has to be the only 'secret' copy?... Really??... That's certainly not a true story!

Watch for late-breaking news...

Google she say: Tucker Carlson: How UPS explained the missing Biden family documents, and a word about Hunter

Nothing about the contents of the documents, though.

Yep. All just one big tease to string everyone along for some joke.

All very silly.

But also, all very cruelly misleading for those that follow soundbites...

There must be laws against such harmful misleading silliness.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Nope no law.
