I just hope that the U.S. and the rest of the world is ready for the pain that he'll bring to all. |

I just hope that the U.S. and the rest of the world is ready for the pain that he'll bring to all. Well, I had a look at the numbers. In 2020 Trump got 74,223,975 votes and in 2024 71,874,910 votes so far... 2.35 million fewer. In 2020 Biden got 81,283,501 votes and in 2024 Harris only got 67,008,012... 14.2 million fewer. So unless there was a some unworkably complex and gigantic conspiracy to destroy Democratic voter's votes in all the now-red states of which there is zero evidence, they did it to themselves, either not bothering to vote because they thought Harris had it in the bag, or just not caring, or "protesting" by not voting, or voting for some worthless candidate who didn't have a chance (ie Stein) because they wanted to "send a message" ie about Gaza. Yeah, nice going... you sent that message straight to Bibi who is now ecstatic that his BFF is back and all the brakes are off for pogroming the Palestinians and Trump has already talked about making Gaza into beachfront property. Sure, you can vote your alt.-candidate conscience in a ranked-choice system, but this is a first-past-the-post where your vote is garbage if your lone candidate loses. You need to pick the candidate closest to your alignment who may actually win. Meanwhile as Bernie noted, GOP voters may despise their candidate and/or some of his policies, but they know if they don't for vote him, he won't win and do the things they want him to do, so they do... and they win. Grow up, non-voting Democrats. |

You need to pick the candidate closest to your alignment who may actually win. This is insulting the voters who are free to decide. But why do reasonable, politically experienced people declare their candidacy against Dems' AND Republican candidates? Hubris? In Germany, public party funding is the reason, which pays out ~ €1 per vote, even for exotic parties if they get at least 0.5% of votes nationwide or 1% in previous state elections. What is the motivation for e.g. Jill Stein or Robert Kennedy to "run" against Trump and Harris? |

And how long will he last??...He promised no more elections. Yes... Hitler/Putin-styled... And then there's that Trump Project xxxx that he supposedly hasn't heard of... It's all 'fake news' 'misinformation' and 'conspiracy' and all a lie? Only in the USA?... And how long will he last??...So, imagine this elected President would have been 58 instead of 78 years old... The good thing about the finite lifespan of humans is that it enforces change. Nothing is eternal. I understood Martin's post differently first: And how long will he last... Is he sufficiently healthy and able to complete the full term? |

I hope (though possibly don't fully expect) Americans to be a lot firmer than, say, Russia in enforcing term limits on presidents. Trump has served one term already, so the upcoming one will be his second and last. But as Gary said, "He promised no more elections." That's a very Putinesque statement: it implies the complete dismantling or abandonment of the democratic template of governance within 4 years. I hope the deed turns out to be more difficult than the words. |

I hope the deed turns out to be more difficult than the words. He promised a lot of things that never happened, like building the border wall and making Mexico pay for it, so I tend to disregard these. He lies more often when campaigning then when he is in office. |

He lies more often when campaigning then when he is in office. In his past term he voiced uncomfortable truths about European security and German energy policies in particular. It was disregarded here. More so, our top diplomats (incl. Foreign Minister) were visibly amused, shook heads, and laughed at him during his speech at UN GA. Today, no one is laughing anymore. 01m10s video @00:30-01:00 |

The end of voting freedoms already? Voted In America? VoteRef Probably Doxed You wrote: ... a website powered by a right-wing group is probably doxing you. VoteRef makes it trivial for anyone to search the name, physical address, age, party affiliation, and whether someone voted that year for people living in most states instantly and for free. moved over from 'Stop pandering Israeli government' thread... You are blind to the election that just took place where the USA is now run by bible thumping christian fundamentalists hell bent on imposing their brand of sharia laws on all.Mr. Kevvy already posted: Trump lost two million voters compared to 2020, but Kamala lost 14 million former Biden voters. Trump probably won the support of a large proportion of Amish in Pennsylvania. Otherwise, I can't recognize a 'Bible Belt' in the result maps, different than other parts of the country. Rather, the rural areas were voting predominantly for Trump. Only in most metropolises, in regions of CO, NM, on the West Coast, in New England... and of course in DC, Kamala won. It is certainly not just because of 'bible thumping christian fundamentalists' that Trump won. [EDIT to add:] Ooh, Gary stated Trump's team will be composed of religious fundamentalist... Well, Mike Pence will not be part of it. map source |

The map I posted previously is eventually misleading. This one (depicting previous 2020 results) visualizes number of casted votes instead of counties' area. 2024 results supposedly just intensified the red color of the 'estuary rivers' and reduced saturation of blue bubbles. Well I expect that we'll get a few more U.S. citizens escaping over to here just like quite a few did the last time that he got in. |

I was going to say the original map looked like a good fit for population then I found https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2013-04-01/how-the-density-of-your-county-affects-how-you-vote There's a decisive break between Democratic and Republican support at a population density of 800 persons/per square mile. and https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/politics/wp/2018/05/04/how-church-attendance-has-evolved-geographically-over-the-past-60-years/ In short bible thumpers are far more productive in obtaining converts in low population areas. That and the electoral college favoring low population states and the result become obvious. |

[provoking] In the anonymous, cosmopolitain big cities with their abundance of single households, the progressive, diverse residents follow ideologies that are far from reality, while the rural and small-town population, centered around their families, upholds traditions, is active in church communities, and has to grapple with realworld problems within their smaller, manageable world: limited income opportunities, education, inflation, tax burdens, health care, etc. [/provoking] |

... No that's of course provocative BS... The observed "division" in America eventually is just a projection of sensational media reporting? Social media opinion bubbles instead of public discourse? Misleading, uniformly red or blue colored states or counties in maps instead of different gradations of red and blue depending on vote split, thereby hiding the more diverse result details? It seems there are many Kamalists in all Red states and many Trumpists in the Blue ones too. They just have to respect each other again, restart talking instead of furiously shouting, and discuss politics honestly with each other. So, calming down the heated athmosphere. But how to achieve that? It is a tragedy when families are torn apart because of voting preferences, or when children breakup with their parents. This is madness. |
