Just breaking. It seems that someone took a potshot at Donny. Expect more to come. |

Not so quiet on the western front. Trump has been shot. It looks like he was only hit in the ear. Officially only a minor injury, but people behind him were hit. At least one fatally. The shooter has been neutralized(dead). |

He dodged a death, a few inches over and… Luck was with him today. Wished no one was behind him. People should see the speaker face to face. Not the back of him. |

Not a potshot, but a planned assassination. The Secret Service or whoever decided on the size of the team that should protect Trump now has a serious problem. |

Was this detail in a funk because there is a good chance their job is going to be inside a prison soon? Was this a candidate demands to press the flesh in spite of our security recommendations? Is this a failure because private land owners have rights to refuse police access? Was this only trainees protect candidates? Or the simple fact that outdoors you can't secure a venue without days of holding the space? (which someone has to pay for) |

He dodged a death, a few inches over and… He likes to do that so the images show that someone showed up. Yes, he was lucky. Two inches over and it would have been over. Unfortunately, some spectators were not so lucky. It's a sad moment for our country, regardless of political preferences. |

Yes 2", that's a very small target, very hard to hit. Not everyone is an Annie Oakley. Savoir-Faire is everywhere! The T1 Trust, T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, America's First HST |

As one who is not in the USA, and doesn't particularly like Trump:- In a democracy there are legal ways of preventing a candidate from being elected, the most notable is via the ballot box. Resorting to shooting that candidate is not a legal option (no matter how tempting it may be). Killing a candidate may well eliminate that person from the race, but it could well have very undesirable, namely making them a martyr or allowing someone even less desirable to take their place. Martyrs die of their martyrdom. This assassin has caused a ‚miracle‘ and thus created a saint. … and tragically also an innocent victim. |

I wonder if this person who suggested the same in 2016 has finally learned not to wish such things on others? I hope so and that this campaign is civilized from the point on, regardless of who "wins". |

The likelihood of either side learning anything is just a hare better than a snowball in hell. I fear it will be taken like the assassination attempt on Hitler and celebrated as a sign from a deity. |

I fear it will be taken like the assassination attempt on Hitler and celebrated as a sign from a deity.Rob Smith wrote about legal ways "in a democracy", thus assassination of opponents must be abhorrent to every sane citizen. It was different with Hitler. On Jan 30 1933 Germany transformed into a totalitarian rule of injustice and enabled Hitler's Seizure of Power. After that date killing the despot, coordinated with a well prepared coup by a large group of leading staff officers became the only option to remove him from power. The only such attempt was made on July 20 1944. We still commemorate[*] this day officially each year in Berlin. The German Army Officers School is located in the "Graf Stauffenberg Barracks", which are named after the assassin, who wasn't a Nazi but definitely an anti-democratic, non-liberal aristocrat. Meanwhile Donny's pet judge is going out of her way to keep Donny out of the fire. Judge dismisses case against Trump for allegedly stealing sensitive government documents. Trump classified documents case dismissed, with judge ruling prosecutor Jack Smith was unlawfully appointed. . But I can feel an appeal coming on that lack of judgement. And Donny picks his moron sidekick. Trump picks Senator JD Vance as his running mate for 2024 election. Then there's Donny's Project 2025 that he doesn't know anything about. The plan for power. The U.S. will be turned into a putrid mess if Donny has his way. |

Just had a weird encounter with a Trump supporter... The brief summary is:
Lots of conspiracy theories; Lots of conspiracies; Lots of very convenient feel-good factor stuff... No possibility of accepting or acting upon any Inconveniences; Lots of xenophobic scapegoating...

I've been through the same thing. These people have been so saturated with misinformation, it's impossible to break through. They believe they are right, because Trump told them, and right wing media keeps reinforcing the misinformation.. It's really sad. Warning, addicted to SETI crunching! „Flood the zone with shit“ They invented it… and it works. [Edit to add] If I think about it…. The Soviets invented and perfected this method. Lying to the people all the time about everything. At some point a sufficient large mass starts to believe the propaganda lies. Later even the propagandists believe their own lies when they had repeated them often enough. |

It is far more insidious. Many of these Rumpists were brought up on fairy tales. They were repeated to the point of total belief no matter what their senses tell them*. They are utterly incapable of understanding the scientific method. They have been told by their fairy tales that science is the work of an evil out to get them. Many have no grasp of math. How could they as math describes the real world and science. They now believe any information that they are spoon fed by the correct authority. They can't think for themselves. We enabled this with "social promotion" in schools. It no longer mattered if you learned correct answers as you still passed. We have created several generations of intentionally ignorant. They will return this planet to the dark ages. *More so than the belief in Santa Claus! |

I agree with everything you said. Today, I was listening to a Trump supporter describing the wonderful changed man Trump was at his RNC speech last night. This person constantly states that their knowledge of assigned products at my company is extremely limited. But this person knows that climate change is fake regardless of evidence, is proud of their critical thinking skills because several people said things about climate change that weren't exactly accurate, and can not be believed no matter what they say. This is not critical thinking. A critical thinker would listen to a statement, then research what the data says to either correlate within the margin of error, or dismiss the statement as nonfactual. I see this over and over. People who freely admit they know nothing, except what their politicians tell them. Actually learning about anything takes work. Whether it is a political statement, climate change, religion, or just about anything else. Getting an accurate understanding takes work, and many times lots of time. Situations and problems are seldom understood by one or two talking points. People just want simplified answers, and don't even want to think about the effort required to get a more accurate answer. Reason, logic, data, consensus mean nothing to these people. I don't see a lot of hope for civilization in the long run. Perhaps if a catastrophic asteroid were heading toward earth, then the world could come together and work toward a solution, but if history is any indicator, then probably not. Today, I was listening to a Trump supporter describing the wonderful changed man Trump was at his RNC speech last night... ... for about ten minutes while he stuck to his prepared speech and I wondered if he really had had his "epiphany". But then he went off-script into a ramble, lasting an hour, reverting to the old well-worn lies and divisiveness. Here's a breakdown of them from PolitiFact. The only difference was that he seemed lower-energy, tired, bored and boring. As with Joe Biden, time and its aging process is the only thing that seems to have changed him at all. |
