Thanks for that. Yes Kirschner's analysis is thoroughly very good.

In stark contrast...

The continual severe and glum and brooding look on the face of Trump's defence lawyer, and the meagre defence, do suggest that Trump is very much the guilty client from Hell...

Whatever... Doesn't matter if he's the guilty client from hell. There will be no timely court ruling that prevents him from running for president.

I bet that delusional Donny really had a real tantrum over this news.

Though he certainly chucked a hissy fit over this development.

And he could be in for more financial trouble over 1 case.

But he certainly is a moron.

Meanwhile this lot of MAGA supporters won't make Donny happy either going against 1 of his crooked buddies, but at least it proves that a few do have some decent morals.

O.J. was acquitted. I don't expect that to happen in Trump's case. Time is just on his side.

Yep it's official, Donny is a crook.

Trump found guilty in criminal 'hush money' trial.

Donald Trump has been found guilty of falsifying business records, a felony that could result in prison time.

The former US president pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in the first degree, to conceal a payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election campaign.

The jury in the New York criminal trial returned its verdict after less than two days of deliberations. It found him guilty on all 34 counts......
Lock him up.

Where does this merciless desire for revenge come from? Donny is a fallible human being, just like everyone else. And he should be treated just like everyone else.

I doubt he'll go to prison for this. Falsifying business records... Pah. It takes more than that. Jan 6th, for example.

McDuck, here the closest obvious example would be falsifying your tax return. If you quickly admit it when questioned and pay up you don't go to prison. If you continue to claim the false return is true you go to the penitentiary and they take it from you. Has Mr. Rump admitted his now proven falsifications? Even after conviction has he shown remorse? Has he any previous convictions? (Ten counts of contempt) He does have his advanced age as a mitigation.

The keys are in his hand. He needs to get contrite PDQ if he wants probation. If he keeps his belligerence up he will bypass Rikers Island for Sing Sing.

The reality is I expect he will get a few months of confinement and a lengthy (perhaps lifetime for him) probation after release. I doubt he will get the max of 34*4 years, I also doubt he will get probation only.

As to why the celebration, the political party he belongs to prides itself on being moral, so the calls are for its own calls to be applied to him.

Surprises me... I'm betting on a suspended sentence. Trump will definitely appeal the sentence which will take another month(s)/year? But what do I know...

Maybe it's time to prepare snacks and beer for July 11th because his conviction encourages GOP representatives to nominate someone else.

Don't know how much weight to give it, but the local radio station KNX interviewed a former judge who said that a survey of similar New York charges, the guilty mostly received sentences of from 6 months to 1 year, but those were defendants who apologized to the court and accepted their guilt. As he can't admit he was wrong for political reasons, he may well get prison time (1 year plus). He also opined that it most likely will not be served in a NY state prison but a Federal prison where they have better resources to hold him.

As to appeal, he first has to appeal his conviction. Then he can appeal his sentence. He'll likely be out on an appellate bond until then*. Assuming he can come up with the cash for that or find a bail bondsman to write it. Funny thing about bail bonds in the USA, technically you become the chattel property of the bondsman. Wait 'till the MAGA figures this out!

*However if he upsets the judge enough with his insults he can begin his sentence immediately as 99.99% of common criminals do. "Bail denied. Remand to custody."

Can Trump run for president as a convicted felon?
wrote:
It is possible, though highly unlikely, that Trump will serve time behind bars.

The 34 charges he faced are all class E felonies in New York, the lowest tier in the state. [...]

[...] several reasons why Justice Merchan could choose a lesser punishment [...] Trump’s age, his lack of previous convictions, [...] non-violent crime.

He could consider Trump's violations of the court’s gag orders during the trial.

It is also possible that the judge would weigh the unprecedented nature of the case, perhaps choosing to avoid putting a former president and current candidate behind bars.

There is also a question of practicality. Trump, like all former presidents, is entitled to lifelong protection from the Secret Service. This means that some agents would need to protect him in prison.

Even so, it would be extremely difficult to run a prison system with a former president as an inmate. It would be a huge security risk and expensive to keep him safe.

"Prison systems care about two things: security of the institution and keeping costs down," [...]

With Trump, "it would be a freak show… no warden would allow it" [...]
The judge should phone Emmanuel Macron and Rishi Sunak. I think both will agree to make French Government owned Longwood House on British island St. Helena, South Atlantic, available for an extended stay.

A question (for Gary?)
With Trump having been found guilty on 34 counts, and showing no signs of "repentance" would it be normal for the trial judge to hand down 34 consecutive 1 year terms of imprisonment, or 1 longer term (say 5 years), or what? This of course presupposes that the judge decides a prison term is in order, and not just a very large fine or other non-custodial sentence.
