Trump Lawyer Told Justice Dept. That Classified Material Had Been Returned

At least one lawyer for former President Donald J. Trump signed a written statement in June asserting that all material marked as classified and held in boxes in a storage area at Mr. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence and club had been returned to the government, four people with knowledge of the document said.

The written declaration was made after a visit on June 3 to Mar-a-Lago by Jay I. Bratt, the top counterintelligence official in the Justice Department’s national security division.

The existence of the signed declaration, which has not previously been reported, is a possible indication that Mr. Trump or his team were not fully forthcoming with federal investigators about the material. And it could help explain why a potential violation of a criminal statute related to obstruction was cited by the department as one basis for seeking the warrant used to carry out the daylong search of the former president’s home on Monday, an extraordinary step that generated political shock waves.

It also helps to further explain the sequence of events that prompted the Justice Department’s decision to conduct the search after months in which it had tried to resolve the matter through discussions with Mr. Trump and his team.

I'm now cancelling my previous prediction that Trump himself will not be criminally indicted, which was based on only Jan. 6th info. I think that this evidence in writing is the final nail that he knew he had highly classified material he should not have had, failed to return it and that both he and he legal team knew about both of these things and lied about it in writing. This is eminently prosecutable... open and shut in the parlance. Conviction? Who knows; one Trump supporter on the jury and no one could ever get a conviction for anything he did regardless of any evidence.

It will be interesting to see if they are able to determine why this intel was taken... there are many possible financial benefits that may have occurred for it. Time will tell.

If this is so widespread, it may be recommended to consider that there may be something to it. I started out willing to give him a chance because I don't go along with groupthink but prefer to "let the evidence decide". For example, though I think Trump was a terrible president for numerous reasons, I still think that George W. Bush was worse because allowed himself to be manipulated into using trivially discredited phony intel to attack a peaceful nation who had done nothing wrong and cause the death of possibly a million of their citizens. It's hard to overcome numbers like that. Trump never started any wars and did pursue talks with some U.S. adversaries, notably Kim Jong-Un who no one else had met with. So there is that.

However, he made numerous pronouncements when he was campaigning on how supportive he was of law enforcement and how many agencies had backed him. Yet, as we have been shown numerous ways, he then stirred up the Jan. 6th mob to attack the capitol which caused the death and injury of numerous members of law enforcement. (Hard to dispute this when it happened live on worldwide TV.) Now because of the recent raid, he has "doxxed" numerous law enforcement personnel, illegally releasing their names, some through his personal Truth Social account, knowing they will be threatened, which they have been of course.

These are only two of numerous examples. Note that I have refrained from mentioning anything which needs to be proven in a court of law and has not been.
