They're going plague on us again with yet another drought looming. :-( Kangaroos damage Victorian cattle farmer's property as numbers 'boom' across state. And it's not just happening down there either as plenty of roos and wallabies have been moving through this village of a night time of late as well and the climbing number of road kills along the highway are also a testament to the growing problem (especially with the lack of food for them around here after all these frosts). [edit] And then there's another debate on another growing problem with another member of our wildlife. Northern Territory crocodile culling was banned in 1971. Should it be reintroduced following an attack at Litchfield National Park? |

Saving our seahorses. Record release of baby seahorses set to boost Sydney Harbour's endangered population. Marine scientists say they have successfully completed the world's biggest release of seahorses as part of efforts to boost the population of the endangered White's seahorse in Sydney Harbour. Cheers. |

Anyone wants rabbits? Bugs' invasion. A Florida suburb is facing an adorable invasion of exotic rabbits after a breeder let them loose and they started multiplying ... like rabbits. We have plenty of the normal type around here if anyone wants those as well. Cheers. |

Anyone wants rabbits? Bugs' invasion. Why in the world did the breeder "let them loose"? If it was intentional, then that person should burn in hell. Well, maybe not burn in hell, but certainly be singed by the flames. ~Sue~ |

Their name is a bit of a misnomer, but they're breeding well on the mainland once again. Barrington Wildlife Sanctuary celebrates birth of 500th Tasmanian devil in Aussie Ark program. Their name came about because by the time Europeans landed here they were pretty much extinct on the mainland, but fossil evidence shows that they covered a fair range of the SE corner of the continent. Cheers. |

In my younger days wandering through the rainforests around Sydney's outskirts I could sit for ages watching and listen to these fabulous birds. Lyrebird calls echo through the forests of south-east Australia. But the passing of these songs from one generation to another is at risk. Don't forget to click on the sound button. ;-) Cheers. |

More native animals being returned for preservation. Mulgaras returned to Dirk Hartog Island as modern science, traditional culture fight 'tide of extinctions'. ....Since Hartog's landing, and the introduction of grazing goats, trampling sheep, and feral cats, 11 native animals, including the mulgara, have disappeared from the island. |

And to think that back in the 60's-70's we use to cull these feral animals by the hundreds each year just out on the Hay Plains alone. It's just too bad that we didn't know another use for them back then. NSW farmers are using donkeys to protect livestock from wild dogs. A donkey supplier in regional New South Wales says there has been a 300 per cent jump in demand for the animals as farmers ramp up efforts to protect stock from wild dogs. They still breed wild here, but at least they're not left rotting out on the ground these days. Cheers. |

The sound I hear almost every morning performed by 20-30 individuals at 1st light. Magpies make Australia's favourite animal sound — but their calls are more than just a pretty tune. Cheers. |
