A few simple notes to happy posting
Don't point fingers at other posters
Answer requests for fact with either the facts or links to the facts
Fact check external sources in a reasonable manner
Keep the size of pictures SMALL, and certainly with the larger dimension less than 1024
Be very aware when "deep quoting" that when you get above three deep the message can become unreadable on some small-screen devices
Remember posting is a privilege not a right, and that privilege may be withdrawn at any time
All posts here are accessible to the public, so don't post anything you don't want to spill outside this community.

Is it really a good idea to have a result that differs from the majority decision?

And wouldn't a simple majority decision lead to greater numbers voting. In many states it is claimed that people don't vote because it is just a waste.

Are you in that position a Republican in a Democratic state, or can it still be regarded as a swing state, even though the Governor is usually a Democrat?

1) ....for the 500th time(possibly an exaggeration but close), it WAS NOT A MAJORITY DECISION! AS only 1/3 (aprox.) of eligible voters bothered to cast a ballot there was no MAJORITY!

Perhaps a better idea is to require a quorum for any Presidential vote to be valid or the vote must be taken again.

2).....again, for the 500th time, (see above) the USA is a REPUBLIC, not a Democracy. It is a REPRESENTATIVE form of Government, meaning in this context that the Electoral College members REPRESENT the will of the people making up their mandate support.

Mob rule is not a recognized form of Government in the US (with the possible exception of downtown Seattle).

That did not answer the question, it is just a repeat of the excuses I have heard too many times.

Have you even considered the reason for so few people voting is because of the allocation of electors.

And if Colorado keeps heading towards the blue* zone, is it worth you casting a vote?

Those are not excuses but rather an explanation of why your basic understanding of American government and the election process is flawed.

The Governor didn't matter so much as there was check and balance in the Legislature, but now that both houses and the executive office are controlled by the Dims (which I surmise will change in November), the State is careening into Socialist hell (comparable to California).

So few people voting is the result of general apathy on the part of many citizens. I think that is changing rapidly and there will be a backlash at both the State and Federal levels in November.

I have never failed to vote in any election as I regard that as both a duty to my country and a privilege not all people in the world can enjoy. And yes I do want my vote to count, why would you ask such a question?

In most free voting democracies like the US, UK and many more there is no "compulsion to vote. But I believe that a few (e.g. Australia?) it is an offence not to vote in major elections (which I would take as being for the national government, president and the like). It would be interesting to hear from someone in one of those countries to see what fractions of the vote "the people at the top" got.

I'm very disappointed and upset when people who didn't vote moan that the government is "not of their liking" - perhaps if they had voted they would have got a "government of their liking".

That's approx the same margin Trump won by in Michigan in 2016.

Yep here in Australia if you don't want to vote then you just pay $50 (plus $5 G.S.T.) for that privilege, simple, and voting registration happens here automatically on a person's 18th birthday. ;-)

Other than that how does your country stack up on the Democracy Index?

I can easily live with 9th spot and a "Full democracy" rating. :-)

Could it be that the non-voters have worked out, that this quote that I found,

The "Mobs" didn't have the vote Greece or Rome or anywhere else until much, much later. In Athens the "Mob" that could vote, would be about 200 people max.

Yes. there are countries that are called either "republic" or "democrat". What have those designations with the US to do? Or should the USA rename it self to the "Republic States of America" or perhaps the "Democratic States of America". As an outsider it looks like now the "United States of America" is falling apart.

Because agricultural slave states didn't have enough voters to balance the industrial states.
