Formula 1: Chinese GP cancelled because of country's 'ongoing difficulties' with Covid
Next year's Chinese Grand Prix has been cancelled by Formula 1 because of "ongoing difficulties" with Covid.
The Shanghai race was due to return in April for the first time since 2019.
Protests have been held in China in recent days over its 'zero Covid' policies, which include regular lockdowns and isolation imposed on infected people and contacts.
F1 says it would not be able to operate normally in China and cannot justify risks to staff involved in travelling.
The sport's bosses have been in discussions with Chinese officials in recent weeks but were unable to reach a satisfactory conclusion.

It looks like Chinese troops have again infringed on India's border.

India Confirms First Border Clash With China Since 2020.

Isn't anyone happy with what they have?

That's a very good excuse for some 'distraction' from 'problems at home'...

India just happens to be a game neighbour to make some distracting news.

Taiwan comes next?

All a game of politics?...

As China Sues U.S. for Choking Off Semiconductor Industry (arn't their knock off jobs good enough?) the U.S., UK export controls hit China's access to Arm's chip designs so they're tuning to South Korea as US Chips Campaign Gains Steam though I doubt that they'll do any better there and yet they won't sell their Loongson processors to Russia.

Meanwhile China Defends 'Secret Police Stations' Found Around the World, but it's falling a deaf ears as that's what embassies are for anyway.

Well it looks like Xi will have enough problems on his hands that he may have to forget about Taiwan.

China’s new move could kill 2.1 million in Covid catastrophe.

And India sends more troops to the border.

After two years of a jittery peace, one country has deployed 50,000 troops, convinced that war is all but inevitable.

It looks like he'll have his hands full.

Unfortunately, as is with Pootin, Xi's troubles at home are precisely why he wants the distraction of Special Military Activity to distract away from home...

The question merely becomes 'wherever' is the softer and loudest target...

'“The biggest problem that China has is that their ICU capacity is quite low – it’s around three per million,” he said."' I would say that if China is still using Sinovac aka CoronaVac, then this is a similar or larger issue. The accepted efficacy is 50-60% over numerous studies, vs. 90%+ for Pfizer and Moderna.

The last study that I've seen even 3 doses of their stuff doesn't come close to the efficiency of 2 first up Pfizer or Moderna doses.

Is Xi really looking for a multi fronted war?

He already has India building up troops along that border as Taiwan scrambles jets to warn away Chinese air force incursion, yet again (which causes friction with the west), and now the Philippines orders strengthened military presence after 'Chinese activities' near islands while Japan is boosting its readiness for war

All that on top of his problems at home with the populous and COVID both running riot.

Unfortunately, a war is a very effective distraction to keep a despot in continued power.

... And the expendable people be damned.

Can't trust the Chicons in outer space...
‘We better watch out’: NASA boss sounds alarm on Chinese moon ambitions
“It is a fact: we’re in a space race,” the former Florida senator and astronaut said in an interview. “And it is true that we better watch out that they don’t get to a place on the moon under the guise of scientific research. And it is not beyond the realm of possibility that they say, ‘Keep out, we’re here, this is our territory.’”

He cited an Earthly example in the South China Sea, where the Chinese military has established bases on contested islands. “If you doubt that, look at what they did with the Spratly Islands.”

Expect more massive shipping traffic jams to happen at Chinese ports (among other things).

The global economy is about to take a nosedive in 2023 and the escalating situation in China is to blame, experts have warned.

China keeps up with its hypocritical whinging rhetoric while it still won't come clean.

China accuses 'some Western media' of COVID-19 coverage bias.

....The government has also lashed out at countries that require travelers coming from China to show a negative virus test, calling the demand “discriminatory" even though it requires the same of anyone entering China....

Commercial satellites have again caught China out in a move that that’s causing concern about its plans in the South China Sea.

Commercial satellites have again caught China out: this time capturing photos of hidden anti-aircraft missiles installed on its “non-militarised” South China Sea islands.

Enormous engineering works began building islands out of the sandbanks and reefs of the South China Sea in 2015. At the same time, military facilities on the occupied Paracel Islands began to be dramatically upgraded.

Satellites have since watched over the construction of long runways, giant hangars, barracks – and gun emplacements – on what Beijing insists are merely search-and-rescue outposts.

Not everything was conducted in plain sight, however.

Reinforced pits may house ammunition dumps. But large sheds with ocean-facing roller doors and retractable roofs have remained a mystery....
