is there any update on when work will start to be sent back out again... i hope this project does not end... i honestly love this project... i am getting a new computer and really want to put it to the test with work trying to find Life out there. I hope this project picks back up soon and does not die... I love this project. I want to fine Life out there... please start back sending work... I do not care if it re-exaaminging old data or new data... just lets get some work out there. |

Nothing has changes since you asked the same question a week ago. If you really want to get advanced warning of the return then you need to keep an close eye on this part of the forum: https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_forum.php?id=1511 Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

I am not trying to work on that Project i am trying to work on SETI at home. I WANT TO FIND E.T. NOT WORK ON ANOTHER PROJECT. WHAT DO YOU NOT GET ABOUT IF I HAVE TO RE EXAMINE OLD DATE I WILLL... WE MUST FIND THEM.... REMEMBER THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE. |

Until Nebula has done its job there will be no SETI work. And please stop SHOUTING! Cheers. |

To reinforce what Wiggo has said - Nebula has to run its course, and that is going to take some time, at the very least months, but more probably years so we will all have to be patient. Re-running old data without new search algorithms will not be of any benefit, so is a totally pointless exercise and would cost the project a lot of time, effort and money. Hi All, has there ever been any discussion about eventually piggy-backing SETI data collection onto the Square Kilometer Array telescope being built in the southern hemisphere? It might be a revealing and seminal marriage between the super powerful radio SKA reception and the improved SETI algorithms currently being developed. |

Great idea with no money to fund it. |

We can do what "Bill Nye, The Science Guy" does--- set a funding target and ask the "members" to contribute by a certain date. I'm ready to kick in $50 , or $100. LGM are out there! Let's find them! SETI is famous! We should gather the troops and CHARGE! |

This idea has been talked about a few times. What one doesn't see in Bill Nye's videos is the amount of planning and preparation that goes on before the first frame is shot. So, a few things to think about before distributing and analysing the first data: Where are the servers going to be hosted What "academic" support will be needed How long is the project going to run for How many staff will be required What data sources are to be used How are those sources going to be managed Will those sources want paying Will the project use the same database structure as SETI@Home Will S@H's existing data be imported into the new project Will BOINC, or some other distributed computing model be used Will "government" or third-party grants be sought - if so who will write the proposals Answers to the above (and no doubt a whole pile more) will give some indication of the amount of money to setup the project and run it for a number of years. This sounds ($$$$) grim, at least for the ordinary person. Thanks for some details. However, maybe the real issue is a favorable technical determination of the efficacy of the improved SETI algorithms relative to other detection methods. Perhaps our judgement that radio frequencies should be commonly used by technological civilizations is not valid. The reason that I like it is that it cuts to the chase. Most of us are convinced are convinced that we will find life in many space environments. We expect that intelligent life will be rare, and we expect that electromechanical civilizations even more rare. You know the argument... given the number of stars in the Milky Way, there should be at least a few civilizations in the Milky Way at our level of technology, or more advanced. With a little luck, one or more will be within a few hundred or thousand, light years of Earth. Let's keep looking until we find them. Crowd funding can work with adequate publicity. You have the email list. SETI has a lot of latent support. However, let's give you gentlemen a chance to finish the vital work that you are doing. |
