(CNN) Kenny Rogers, whose legendary music career spanned nearly six decades, has died at the age of 81, his publicist Keith Hagan told CNN.
The artist's family announced his passing on Rogers' verified Twitter account, saying he died Friday night from natural causes under the care of hospice and surrounded by family.

Never really liked country. I did like Kenny. His music will live on.

Well that's one way to avoid the pandemic. Here is his Variety obituary. He brought us so much great music. Including the greatest gift of all. Rest in peace.

There is a story I heard about Kenny Rogers that tells the type of person he was. At one of his personal appearances, he lost his voice shortly before he was to appear on stage. As he couldn't stop the people from showing up, at the appointed time, he went on stage and told them that he was unable to sing. The band was there and ready to play and he would do what he could to provide an entertaining evening. If anybody was unhappy with the show, they could collect the money for their ticket on the way out. While Kenny Rogers was only able to get out a few words, to the audience this became a singalong as they knew all the words to the songs. All must have had a great evening because only two people wanted a refund on their ticket.

While is was known as a country singer, he mixed other styles into his music so it appealed to those outside of the strict country style. I leave you with "The Greatest"
