The validator started falling behind on Milky Way a couple of days ago. I asked at what point the system would crash (I admit I was being a snot)
The admin replied that the system wouldn't go down and said the validator could be behind 2 Billion and it would still be fine. It crossed the 2 million mark this morning (way less than 2 billion) and went down a few hours later.

When the system is up I like the nice short tasks of MW. I'm not going to look for other projects at the moment as I have too much else going on in life, but if anyone finds a good backup backup project they like, let me know.

I am gettting on Einstein some binary radio pulsar tasks, marked Arecibo.

Well, while SETI@Home was running, AND the Arecibo telescope HADN'T crashed, yet, I was aware that
Einstein@Home was also making use of the Arecibo telescope. Since Arecibo crashed and fell away, after
SETI@Home ceased, it's quite possible that the Einstein Data being crunched that is marked Arecibo is
just old work that either didn't get processed, or they want another look at that Data Set.

I haven't been able to snag much of any. Only 9 tasks on one host, nothing on the others. Just endless nothing to send request reports.

Milky Way is up and down all day today, and I don't think the admin knows what is wrong. He is putting band-aids on, but admits he isn't sure what the cause is.

Found a few GPUGRID tasks, which use a nVIDIA GPU, and run them together with QuChemPedIA@home, which uses VirtualBox on a Windows host.

How cool. I picked up 145 tasks 5 days ago unfortunately there was no mention of Arecibo.

Message 2095859 - Posted: 15 Mar 2022, 18:42:39 UTC - in response to Message 2095807.

Bernd at Einstein said that they recently received a ton of new Arecibo data.

He also stated that the FGRP5 search has exhausted any new "promising targets" = scientifically relevant "work" than the current one"

That is the reason they have deprecated search resources for the FGRP5 apps and are now concentrating on the new Arecibo BRP4 beams.

He also said they are developing a new Radio Pulsar search to make use of the high powered AMD and Nvidia cards.

So we might see a return of the old BRP4G application or a newer, updated version for this new data eventually.

Interesting information. I wonder what is classed as high-end

Especially so since even low end video cards are barely affordable.

He didn't say exactly "high-end" This is what he said.

FGRPB1G will eventually run out of work as well, but we are working on a new Radio-Pulsar search that will run on the larger AMD and NVidia GPUs then

In this context it could mean newer cards with greater compute capability and likely more memory. So possibly not able to run on ten year old gpus anymore.

I'm not worrying about that as this issue is still far off in the future.

I am running Gravitational Waves O3 tasks on a Nvidia GTX 1060 and a GTX 1650. The first is faster, although it has 3 GB of Video RAM instead of 4 . They also run GPUGRID tasks, when available, with similar results. Only the AMD Ryzen 4500U with its Radeon integrated GPU is much slower, and of course it cannot run GPUGRID.

Both the Einstein GW tasks along with the GPUGrid tasks are sensitive to memory bandwidth.

The 1650 only has 128 bit memory width versus the 192 bit memory width on the 1060.

So even though the 1650 has more memory than the 3GB 1060, the 1060 still outclasses the 1650 on these applications.

Once GW GPU tasks required more than 3 GB of Video memory and I was severely scolded for using it. So I bought a new PC wich has the GTX 1650. Now GW GPU tasks run happily on the GTX 1060. Also the Radeon AMD GPU has 128 bits.

. .
. . Being retired I am really missing SETI. With all the Covid-19 restrictions and now constant rain and frequent flooding I am almost a shut in. I look forward to the rain going away for a while and some semblance of normality returning.
. . I was sceptical about SETI resuming as soon as they announced the "sabatical". But as time goes by that feeling increases. Still I toy with Einstein when I feel inclined :)

Hi Keith,

. . But all that gear set up for Parkes has still never had an airing. I wonder if they could use any of that for Einstein RP search???

. . Exactement!!!

. . My budget is expended so no new ultra expensive cards happening here. I am still kicking myself for missing out on the affordable "special" deal where I could have had 2 x 2070's for $798 when the 30xx cards were coming out. As 86 would say ... missed by <- that much -> :(
