Is 95 mins slower or faster than before?

. . OK, sorry if I misled you at all, the 1030 is not mine. I have been looking at results from wingmen and noticed that a 1030 running 1.28 took that long. I was not expecting much from a 1030 since I believe the lower end models only have 1GB ram as well as a less powerful GPU but was surprised that it was as slow as it was. By comparison my 950 is slamming it at 21 mins. I thought it would make a cogent argument in favour of adding the 900 series to the send list ... :)

A GT1030 has about half the cores and half the memory bandwidth compared to a GTX950.

Additionally there are some variants of the GT1030 which use DDR4 memory instead of the standard GDDR5. The DDR4 version has 1/4 the memory bandwidth of the GDDR5 model.

The Einstein Gamma Ray GPU app is fairly sensitive to GPU memory performance, so it doesn’t surprise me at all that a GT1030 would be that slow, especially if it’s the DDR4 model. But we need an apples to apples comparison to know for sure. Also possible that the card is slow enough that the new app isn’t very beneficial too.

. . Thanks for those link pages. Knowing that the GPU was less powerful and the memory slower I would have expected 50 to 60 mins or thereabouts, but I had not considered the DDR4 variation, that would slow things way down. But that is exactly the point I was suggesting. That when 1030's are on the 1.28 send list it makes a lot of sense to have cards like the 950's getting it too.

. . Not that I have done any work for WCG in quite a while, but some teething problems were inevitable after such a major move. I just hope they are well sorted before th projects loses many volunteers.

Switched browser & googled WCG & got the IBM WCG home page, clicked on log in & viola.
It seems Boinc is just like your regular supermarkets, get to know where everything is & get comfortable with it, & then they whammy you.
IMO, they're going about it the wrong way if they intend to take full advantage of DC.
However, let's give them time to settle in & iron out any bugs.

Hi ! Thanks for the congrats for my badges. I'm a bit bummed by the new forums at WCG, but like others, I'm giving it time to settle.

I do like the badge system over at WCG. The early badges come fairly quickly, and then there is a long long time between the yearly ones. Since I'm a hobby cruncher I'm just trying to get to a year in all the projects I can. I'll probably need a script to time my request if I ever want any of the TB tasks though (only 300/day ??)

Just dropped the last kid at university (computer engineering), and I'll be working on my resume to see if anyone wants to hire a rusty programmer/admin. On the bright side it might give me access to more machines (I'll ask permission of course) to run boinc projects on.

I do miss our seti discussions.

It's hours to 2 d.p. -- given that even now some machines might take days to process tasks in some projects, I can quite understand why they decided not to use seconds on the original site! It's not a very accurate statistic, of course, but finer details are available elsewhere, such as by clicking on the download marker on the right of the results page and looking at the resulting CSV file...

The transition at WCG is starting to have some bumps.

I'm mainly doing African Rainfall Project WUs and lately they have been easy to get, so I haven't needed to have any cache at all, but now I do need to have one or two spare, but I can't have more than 2 running at a time.

I've had to write my first app_config file. It was so fun. I haven't needed an app_config file before as the manager had all the settings I needed until now.

It is finally starting to cool down here and I can run the machine a bit more and not worry about it getting too warm, and this is when they do the transition?? ha.

. .A common first mistake is to ignore Murphy's Law ...

Africa Rainfall Project tasks take about 13 hours on my Windows 10 PC and 88 hours on an old Linux laptop. Mapping Cancer Markers take about 2 hours on the PC. I am getting most of them. OPNG tasks are absent even if thePC has a GTX 1060 GPU board. OPN1 tasks take abou 3 hours, they are very few.

One of my SETI motherboards just found a new home. An old eVga SLI type mombo went south. I had already sold most of the SETI 1060 type boards on eBay easily recouping what I had paid new a few years ago.

I went through my parts drawers and found the following 1x pci cards: Wifi and bluetooth combo, USB3 with internal header, eSata with port multiplier (I have a box of disks that can connect to it). Not counting the inaccessible 1x slot under the GPU, there is one left over 1x slot. If I had a firewire card I could fill it in but 1394 is as dead as SETI
