Actually I started looking for RAM-drives for Windows to maybe reduce Rosetta's I/O on SSD and reading about zRAM on their forums. Also it could reduce swapping to HDD/SSD.
It seems Win10 has smth similar but less configurable.
The idea to use compressed RAM-drive , not just RAM-drive is interesting.

EDIT: for example right now HDD-LED on my PC flashes regularly. It does 4 Rosetta tasks +MW of NV GPU. And it seems pagefile in intensive use. So I would investigate the idea to put pagefile on _compressed_ RAM-drive little more...

I'm sure everyone is aware that all recent OSes use some of the system RAM as a disk cache. On Linux, I still run Boinc from "tmpfs" which is a filesystem in RAM. That setup is from early 2000's to allow back in those days for the hard drive to spin down overnight. Regardless, with the performance of modern day drives of any type, there's now no real need for a RAMdisk for such as s@h.

Still, quite a find and quite a giggle. Also, a very sad historical hangover that such outdated silliness is still being sold...

WCG obviously have a backup system, if the BOINC database goes offline. Very nice.

Message from "World Community Grid Tech" :

"The server hosting the BOINC database has gone offline. We are working with the datacenter team to find out what happened.
Once we have confirmation that the system is completely down and thus does not have our database SAN storage mounted,

It ought to be possible to tweak those minirosetta_database copies into a softlink, leaving a single master copy in the project directory. Then, when you've tweaked it and tested it, teach them how to run BOINC efficiently!
