The announcement is here

https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=85267

And you still have at least 4 weeks to return work, possibly longer.

seti@home is not 'going away'...

As posted in the News, this is a pause so that the s@h scientists can work through the results amassed thus far.

Who knows what they will find?!

And what they may progress to next with s@h?

Stay tuned!

Are they going to put a 31 March deadline on all tasks?

Are they going to put a 31 March deadline on all tasks?

Most likely not. That date is for when s@h stop sending out new WUs.

More of a question is for how long you will have for returning the WUs that you have downloaded.

I behieve there is still some discussions as to exactly how tasks will be handled.

I would watch out in the news for more details

I have a feeling they need to put on some sort of strict deadlines, if they want a neat ending, on or else there could be a bunch of tasks that never get finished.

But why March? I was hoping to make it to 21.

With resends of resends it could stretch out for a while and then some.
I'd expect once 99% of the load goes away that the server won't need any attention so they can let results trickle in for some time.
Also they need to write and debug the back end. So they won't need to close and bar the door for a while.

Now the only question is once everyone's RAC drops below 0.5, will we be able to post?

I'm sure we'll be keeping the forums running! :-)

Is this where we get to see our RAC forever frozen upon a moment?... ;-)

No News Tasks, but still have Resent Tasks because of bad hosts or Overflow tasks ...

and then .... nothingness ... till the end of the pause ... perhaps ...

Remember Seti V7 ?
Most of us were here when Seti V7 was phased out in the transition to V8. It was a lengthy process. The "end" of V7 was initiated on January 5 (more or less...), 2016 and after 3 months there were still 700 work units awaiting validation. The last one finally validated on August 8, 2016. EIGHT MONTHS! Historians may retrieve the thread:
https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=79164&postid=1767534
and follow the "exciting" countdown toward the last validation. (With many references to "watching paint dry", etc.)
I see no reason to expect anything different following the March 31 distribution cutoff - unless the project admins adjust the deadlines, or send multiple replicas of timed-out work units (and let there be a race to see which host will return the result first!), or change some other setting to prod the return rate.
I'm confident I'll reach my 21-year mark before the validation/assimilation process winds down - and others striving for their own personal milestones may take hope. It's more uncertain whether I'll reach the 50M credits, but those are just numbers anyway.

Like everyone, I am disappointed, sad.
Member from the first hours, when often problems occured, I stayed.
"Searching" a second WOW signal.
Be assured also the scientist team is sad. Look the very quiet post from Eric who very few posts.
https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=85275&postid=2035328#2035328
But so is it.
All of us wanted to help SETI. I am sure they knowns it.
So why not to send post to suport Eric, Dan, Jeff, Matt and David (the founder of BOINC who is used by everyone on Earth) )

Best sad regards to everyone
