During all of these 21 years, the project finded signals of any extraterrestrial civilization? I think the true reason for shutdown the project is because already has evidence but don`t want share with us! The Truth is Out There, Think about it!

Clearly, you have found evidence of ETI, have been communicating with them, have access to their superior scopes and computers and will be releasing a statement soon. Because I'm not buying the official reason.

I would like to thank the project scientists for their hard work over the years. I've made friends, learned a lot and had fun doing it.

I have mixed emotions. I knew this day was coming, just didn't expect it for a couple more years. I will keep my client attached to the project and have no plans on detaching. EVER

I have to wonder....the people who have been crunching here....when this finally ends....will they move over to different projects or just drop out completely? I am looking at other projects now but I do not have the same passion or desire for them as I do seti. I am curious what % of users will just say farewell and remove the program. We all knew this day would come, but it was very sudden, not much lead up warning...at least that I knew about.

If you have been crunching any other BOINC projects then I expect you will continue crunching something. If you are a diehard Seti@Home only person who doesn't even have another project set up for "backup" then I am less hopeful.

There are many interesting and socially useful projects out there. Just none of them have the extreme upscale of this one if it was "ever" successful in locating another Intelligent Life form.

As many have said, unexpected, but not surprised. However, having just done a drive for.. drives, and having done very well, it seems like a knee jerk reaction to an outside force that we may never learn more of. To everyone, it's been an awesome experience, seeing so many people come together for a common goal. It will be interesting to see what the near future holds for us all, and I eagerly await to see what news may come forth from the Seti team. As I said, why bother with the donation drive, and then a couple months later, shut this end of the project down indefinitely. Doesn't make sense, but I will leave my faith in the Seti team, that more news will be forthcoming.

Cheers to all!

I think I might go to Asteroids at home

http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/

Seems like a cool project and it studies our local space more or less

I couldn't agree more. I'm pissed because there's nothing else listening for ETs.
Stopping after 20 years is ludicrous : The Milky way is 10 billions years old !
I don't buy their reasons/excuses, JUST KEEP LISTENING!

I joined in May 1999 when I first heard about the project and like many others have moved to progressively faster machine. Back then a unit would take a week or more downloaded via dialup modem. Now it's a lot faster.
I do miss the screen saver though.
What next? Asteroids?

Cheers

I just want to thank all of you for devoting all your time and effort, if you are like me you didn't mind replacing a fan here and there, didn't loose sleep knowing you left the computer on, and eagerly await the official word on whether anything that passed through your computer might be worth looking at, can't wait for the analysis!

But I only just started a couple of months ago :(
Sad to see this go, and so does Carl Sagan.
Anyway, good luck everyone.

Remember the Trisolarians!

Will results or computations now be faked?

Is there any link to the current guest at the White House?

I'm so sorry =-((

A great project would be dead.

BTW: I've started computing the climatechange project, but after my first 2 WU finished,
I've got no more WUs for processing - why. Is there also no further work to do:

42 and „We apologize for the inconvenience“

Breakthough listen has come along with $100M over 10 years, all Seti got was some Blc workunits.
That was true at the beginning, but in September 2017 Eric told me that "Breakthrough has agreed to fund SETI@home in an amount larger than [redacted]". Sorry, private email and I can't go further.

This news makes me really sad.

I wasn’t volunteering for this project since the very beginning but it wasn’t far off. I started when I was in my last year of school. IT was exciting and full of interesting people doing interesting things. The notion of distributed computing was pretty new and SETI for me was just the right grade of science and whimsy. It was something I was proud to hang my hat on.

Over the years IT has started to seriously suck. There seems far more maliciousness, oppression, and greed than wonder, fun, and hope. SETI I’ve realized was kinda my rock. It was my ‘we’ll always have Paris’ app. A bright light of fun and wonder. Something that I was just happy to be a part of. Even if it was only a small part.

And now the music fades. It has to. And I hope that the project was a success.

Thanks for more than 20 years of hope, and wonder, and reasons to look at the sky folks. I will raise a pint on the 31st to be sure.

Cheers everyone..
